I said it before and I’ll say it again… this Mod is better then the actual game of Skyrim. If I was Tod Howard I would incorporate Vigilant into being a legit DLC and give Vicn his dues. The guy sticks to the lore like he friggin wrote TES…. He earned every single penny for this masterpiece. Let it happen!

Act 4 of Vigilant is so emotionally grueling that I started fucking bawling when you finally wake up back in Skyrim, right down the hill from my house. No other game, let alone a free mod, has ever instilled me with such a catharsis.

This mod is so good that you can't even move on to another quest mod prior your completion.... I can't wait for Glenmoril to get the same treatment Vigilant has, with outstanding voice acting. Unslaad is good but it is too short. Only Glenmoril left to try. Guess it has to wait then...

Fantastic video, It took most of my playthrough to really get what was happening, and then it hit me like a truck when the Inquisitor said something to the effect of; "Why are you here? Why did Shezzar and Kyne abandon us to this fate? Why did they forsaken us? Why have we waited so long?" Only to realize that the dragonborn is that salvation, that the divines never abandoned them, and that we arrived at exactly the right point in time to save their souls....if you play it that way of course. This realization is what makes the true ending so powerful.

thanks you for creating this. i played through vigilant twice and loved its tone of history, but couldn't piece all the clues together like you did. it's writing is subtle, so realization hits you harder.
as we journey through coldharbour, we meet fragments of souls trapped there. many are famous historical figures. we kill them and live their memories, but with our choices. and we leave behind empty sites, cuz these fragments have attached onto us. dragonborns are walking soulgems. we become a mantella, crux of transendence to escape the greymarch. we journey into the abyss, we get molag bal himself. the choice in the end is answering: who is mantelling whom? i think this mod gives a proper closure to the story of the last dragonborn, which skyrim's dragonborn dlc failed to do. although that dlc plus here there be monsters trilogy come close. no matter what we choose, we escape with ridiculously powerful artifacts and spells. if we understand what happened, our new found powers are then completely acceptable. even the two owls.
Im about to start another playthrough of it myself. Its even more fun playing as a Vampire and just giving Bal the middle finger in the end to be honest. I roleplay that my character ends up falling for Lamae after meeting her and decides to try and free her spirit at the very end. I make it a habit to leave mountain flowers at the statue of her in Windhelm. Its also ironic that when NPCs have that dialogue option of " have you ever lost a loved one", i can RP and say yes.

The most satisfying moment is seeing shattered Molag Bal in Aetherius after doing the good ending. Molag Bal is such an evil Daedra that has been haunting folks for so long that he's finally getting what he deserves. The Order swallowing his realm and him not getting Aetherius.

This is an incredible mod. Easily 5-6 hours of content right here and the lore. The freaking lore is deep, accurate and incredibly pieced together. My biggest gripe however was not being able to actually and legitmently sever Molag Bals head from his worthless body. As a Serana lover, knowing what happened to her, Lamae and Valerica to become pure blooded vampires made me want to kill him in the worst way possible. But I guess ensuring I get the best ending was the big middle finger to Molag. Even as a Vampire character I shun him in game. Never wearing anything with his name nor following him with Wintersun mod. And in every quest involving him. Siding with the Vigilants over him.

I actually just played these mods for first time in 2023. Their pretty incredible. I like how he tied the lore in and just didn't go off the rails. It would be cool if someone made a adjoining mod that had the vanilla game/ dawn guard recognize you and your achievements. To enter dawn guard after this and be treated as a newb is absurd. I didn't get the skill trees to go with the three.. maybe in the future. I always liked having a handicap though and relying on my weapons and enchantments.

Remember that memory from ACT I when you meet Jo'vanni in the Ratway? Of him and Campaner'Ra? If you get enough karma, you will find them reincarnated as Alfiq (kittens) near Ja'zhan on the banks of The White River. Ja'zhan mentions he 'saved' them from a Chick Trader named Ja'zel. Them being there is more just a reward for all the karma you gathered but it's more there to serve as an introduction to Ja'zel The Chick Trader, who is a character from GLENMORIL.

I desperately need this because I accidentally stabbed the guy with the needle and skipped to act 4. Didn't even realize what was going on until I had already dropped hours into it, completely lost in Coldharbor, and looked it up. Speaking of which, probably should have something that mentions that in the quest. The guy makes it seem like you have a choice to follow the Vigilants or a different story but you have to choose before Alcanto gets to the Vigilants, so I just stabbed him.

This mod alone gave this game a new purpose. I could be playing it over and over. When I first played it, I was the hero. I was the Dragonborn, child of Akatosh, savior of the world. No enemy threatened me. I was ready to meet Molag Bal face to face. But as I continued, I wanted to know more. Who were these guant enemies I was slaying one after another? Why are they hostile towards me? And why did Molag Bal take me to Coldharbour, the one place where I could actually threaten his power? As I kept on going, clensing every soul, slaying every enemy, I was piecing that mystery together. I vowed to free every single soul under thumb of this Daedric Prince. All will be put to rest before I face the devil himself. I faced maddened knights and lords. I faced sorce of corruption in sewers. I faced giants. None could withstand my dragonbone blades. And then, I climbed that tower, slaying demons left and right. Freed Saint Allesia from eternal torment. And there he was, behind his throne, wounded and weak. I felt almost sorry to slay him. But I did and finally, could leave this desolate place. As I did and entered Aetherius, I touched petrified remains of Molag Bal. He was no longer a threat, but still. I entered the abyss and faced him there. Dragonborn vs Daedric Prince. I have slain him and could finally end it. I picked flower for a friend stuck in Coldharbour, hoping I would be able to deliver it to him. And then... I saw the one last memory. I listened to the story of bard, beautiful song and then... talked to Molag Bal once again. He asked me for a name. And I gave him my own. It was time to end this vicious cycle. Molag's power was broken, his realm dead. For all sense and purposes... he was done for. And I returned to Tamriel, I paid my respect at Eldergleam and listened to that beautiful song once again. Hero in me was satisfied as I saved all I could. Souls that have been trotured for millenia have been set free. Warrior in me was satisfied as I asserted my dominance over Daedric Prince. And a poet in me was also satisfied as I have allowed two lovers to be reunited in afterlife. Finally allowed to rest in peace.
