To me, archers are valuable (without any of these "buffs") for several reasons: 1) safe damage 2) they are attractive to enemy AI and will often cause them to move into poor positions 3) they do solid damage vs squishies 3) finishing off low hp enemies 4) range allows them to expoit battles where narrow paths, rampart aura, or terrain may generally impact you. They clearly have a role for me. I think so many people relied on archers as a crutch to get through the original games that they have no idea what a balanced version looks like until now...and they don't like it.

You can attack while getting cards. Just don't target boss enemies for a handful of damage as they're immune to arrows. And for God's sake turn off the AI if they are elevated as they won't target outside panels you can manually hit with the high ground line of sight.

Something to note about archers and double shot. Although you can attack beyond the yellow square areas, double shot will not trigger unless you attack a unit in the yellow square area. I just realized this at lvl 32.

Agree with everything you say here. I personally find Archers useful as coordinators for my ranged support. I like having Vartan Canopus with El Colas Winds, an Archer with Eagle Eye and a Ninja with a blow dart and bow to rain down targeted status effects and pick off vulnerable targets. With the Shortbow+1 having Stunned on hit and the Baldur Bow+1 having Silenced on hit I can pick and mix my status effect cocktails with the Ninja’s Envenom. I place them in formation on high ground and they do the job just fine; but much more consistently with the Archer’s Eagle Eye, particularly against bosses who sometimes have high resistance against status effects that an Enchantress might struggle to overpower.

Archers are basically mortars. They support your frontline infantry, making battles easier for them. Mortars do not win battles, but they keep infantry (your tanks) alive.

LOL exactly. It's like "We know they are garbage, so here's your challenge reward!". Also, it's cool that Coffee is in love with Archers, but that doesn't mean they are actually good. Because they really aren't in this. Like at all. They only get close to caster damage after Fear or Breach has been applied, and even then still don't do as much without a crit. He can keep hyping them up, but that won't change the fact that someone screwed up a decimal point when "balancing" them for this. Usually units do not "move out of range" of the initial unit that badly hurt them unless it's something like a Cleric. More often than not the extra range on an Archer is meaningless, and it makes them especially worthless when you have to have them sitting on the sidelines until a unit is low on health before they can DO anything to them anyway. Also, it doesn't matter if Archers can use Charm bows. The game isn't so difficult that you can't wait until the enemy is slightly closer to charm them with your casters. The same casters that could do multiple other things as well, including more damage.

Damage ain't the only thing that exists. You're also kinda contradicting yourself. Why use a caster who can spam summons and what not (once they get enough mp) to charm enemies when Archers can do it from turn 1 and keep doing it every turn (with enough luck, but same could be said about casters and their Meditation)? If your thing is "big numbers good, me love big stick, big stick big number, no big stick bad unit" then yeah, Archers are useless to you. They were never meant to dish out damage in thousands. That's not their role. When used according to their role they are very effective and make life much, much easier. If you still want damage, try running 50% Terror Knights with Claymore +1, 25% Archers with charming bow, and 25% Archers in Zilga set. Can plow through almost any enemy composition. Terror Knights will ensure that enemies are trembling in fear just by getting close, and most likely get breached every other turn.

Archers can pressure and kill squishies from turn 1 at extreme range without any special buffs. They kind of trivialize any boss fight against a squishy class as it is.

I'm doing what I can, the PSP release saw endless misconceptions that continue to this day (See "Strengthen doesn't work on higher levels"..it does, and it's a long story.), and I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe we can get folks off on the right foot this time! It's been wonderful to see that generally folks are understanding the mechanics more, so I'd say we're doing well.

We beginners need an updated "Know your unit" series for Reborn with class explanations and build suggestions. For example, i would have never tried the zweihander+1 Terror knight if you haven't talked about it in previous videos. And i'm REALLY enjoying it right now.

Archers are only solid if they target very low defense characters. They NEED the target to be debuffed to do any real damage.

They don't need it, but it's ideal. Between Leaden and Tremendous, a team of archers can basically stunlock just about anything.

I hope they allow you to change sprites even just the colors. In OV i always change Folcurt's sprite into Leonar's and turn it to gold so won't get confused Folcurt's sprite has his helmet on during battle 🤣

I’ve enjoyed keeping one archer around, but mostly to support my ninjas and blowguns. Getting a guaranteed charm, silence, or petrify has been about as effective as an instant kill in most cases, and a single archer can set this up for multiple units on a single turn! While other units have tended to be more useful, I’d almost always rather have two ninjas and an archer over three ninjas.

I think the archers are more like sniper or artillery, a support for frontline units. While the griffons are more like close air support.

Gryphons make great medical evac too. 7 Movement with a Blessing Stone stack is the ultimate backup plan.

"There's a few cases where you really want a long range marksman type of unit" Yes, that's why I have monsters, who can do that, but are also infinitely more useful than Archers! The problem here is that the title says "archers are awesome", but the video shows that "archers aren't completely useless" and there's a world of difference between the two. Can you use Archers? Sure, if you want to you can make them work... Should you use them? Well, pretty much anything else in the game is better and also more interesting than them, so... Also, the whole "staying in place for purposes of action economy" thing is worse in Reborn where you can pick up cards to boost you. My gryphon can just fly over to a bunch of phys/mp cards while throwing boulders everywhere OR sit in place if it wants, and they also can throw out a massive AoE wind slash and have a huge hp pool, amazing RT from not wearing almost any equipment etc. etc.

Honestly I really wish they got rid of the boulder throw from most of the monsters aside from the Golems and the Cyclopes (maybe also the Octopi). It really doesn't make sense for the gryphons, cockatrices or dragons.

Basically the conclusion I drew. But I called this out when they first released the information. You certainly aren't going to find me not calling it what it is. Archers are a bit mediocre. This annoyingly works on both ends. Due to the higher overall damage you essentially opt into enemy archers mattering by your unit composition and if you're using items or not. If you are, you can just roll through the front door on maps with large amounts of archers (such as the intos to forbidden magic) and archers will plink off of your own units for equally pitiful amounts of damage. Had they change the enemy composition I would totally understand their changes to archers but they didn't and they suck just as much for the enemy as they do for the player. Where as monsters got a pretty damn good bump.

To me video shows exactly what it promised. Archers are awesome. It doesn't say anything like "Archers are the op units who do everything, and do it better". You love boulders? Nothing wrong with that. I like archers and their versatility more than boulders. We can both play how we want and get the desired results. That's the good thing about Reborn. Balance.

They are entirely different role. Archer can enable ranged unit l. As the title they are awesome. Make your knight can shot those baldur crossbow disabling enemy healer & mage for entire fight. Your ninja can pertify lock those pest unit like TK. Archer more control unit. Gryphon is skrimisher. Different role at all.

I've been playing OV 1.0 non-stop and haven't gotten a chance to spin up Reborn, so I may be wrong here. But, I've seen some comments saying Priests and healers in general are a waste of time, since Knights and other classes can heal just as well and there are now consumables that heal 75% of HP. Please, if you can/want, address this in a video similar to this one. Loving the content!

Off the top of my head the immediate response to this is that sure, the Knights get access to the heal line and Valkyries get access to Quickening, but only Clerics get full access to all the buff/heal spells and most importantly, group healing (also the Ressurection spell, which has much more range than a stone that does the same thing, and costs far less). Being able to heal up to 5 characters in one turn is huge and something knights can just never do. Also, you usually want the option to actually do damage with your knights and hit guys, and if they're spending all their turns healing (with spells or items), they're not doing that. A dedicated healer (or 2 in larger fights) is key to keeping your fighting guys actually fighting.

@@Iridium-77-g yeah don't worry about that. Donnalto alone has been playing a huge part in my team between group heals and buffs. Sure other units can heal and buff but using them often looses you momentum as opposed to having a dedicated healer.

Having played OV I think archers are around the same as reborn to be honest, You're not doing great against heavily armored units for the most part. In fact they did many of the things that riacs already did for balance. As far as clerics and priests, I've found I have a much easier time of things with dedicated healers. You only have a certain amount of items you can bring in and no one can heal as good as a cleric. Priests have more offensive options with decent healing, no mother's blessing for a big heal. Great on an undead destroyer team.

Knights are slow. Even if you use a knight solely to heal a cleric will still get more turns. You need quite a few knights and rune fencers off healing to keep up with the speedy dedicated cleric.

In my opinion the recruit skill is highly undervalued all these experienced players are running way less of it than I am. Maybe I’m just particularly unlucky but once I swapped my archers out for Rune Fencers it fixed a lot of my problems.

Archers are amazing at taking out squishies and they are useless when it comes to taking out tanks unless you've breached their armor. As shown in the video here their damage is crazy good if you are attacking the right targets. Make sure you aren't just giving everyone the most expensive gear possible. Just because you unlock it later doesn't mean its better, for most damage units the leather gear is better, Baldur gear is better for tanks that use magic and so on.

Yup, and it's funny because when you max out stats and gear, this is how they mostly worked in the PvP mode in PSP, but exactly no one used that for anything.

It was interesting to see these points laid out, I've been playing a pretty casual playthrough (nice and slow, partway through chapter 2) and hadn't had too much trouble utilizing my two Archers to decent effect, aside from what happens when you run out of soft targets (making use of items is something I should consider more, really). It's honestly nice to see that they have utility outside of the longbow alone. Once I got Eagle Eye (and crafted weapons, I noticed them rather late, only right after a second visit to Krysaro) I started making one of them run Shortbow+1 (lighter, shorter range, but stun proc!) and chase around my Valkyrie with a Voulge+1 (it has Breach!) who made use of both it and her magic to engage a variety of targets from close to mid-range. Anytime Eagle Eye went off, I could make use of it to potentially mitigate damage via stun (and, like as not, the Valkyrie occasionally drew fire for using lighter armor) and set up a new target for the Archer to shoot in one go. I couldn't always employ this tactic, but when I did get to do it, it was a treat to have two units work well together who might not in another game. In FFT I certainly would struggle to, and I love that game to pieces. I suppose there's something to be said about having to set up targets for an Archer compared to the ease of use of other unit types who are sturdier, consistent, and don't hit the same highs, but I don't see why they can't work in tandem. Or hit two very different kinds of enemies. There's probably a few maps or strats out there where even a very gimmicked out Archer can't perform well at all, but I think that's okay, and it's good that they can have a role in combat other than deleting weaklings willy nilly, even in those cases. It is funny to think that the low penetration kinda makes sense. Well-armored or well-prepared targets can get them to ping off and do next to nothing in raw damage, but if you aren't either of those...you are kind of air-mailing a small sharp bit of metal at them with same-day shipping. It's gonna hurt, and the ludicrous scaling really exemplifies that, I think. Sorry for the long post, but it was fun watching some of these videos as I played, been sneakily watching since prior to the release of Reborn. Hope you keep finding success.

All good, I always love a good success story, and I'm glad you found a good combo there! Fun note, you can also work in a Warrior in to the team to guarantee the Voulge proc with Vigorous Attack, which you should have at this point. Voulge and Scorpion work wonders weaving between each other for spreading Breach and Poison.

I've not been commenting much cause I'm really enjoying game now. Started listening to this video and stopped myself cause I still want to explore archers more without information you may provide. They are definitely useful in my blind playthru, since I never really seen them in OP state. But clearly during second chapter they appear to be doing way less damage, I wonder how it'll change further in, once I get more decent equipment and skills. Cause for some reason I don't change classes much and just stuck with what I have and recruited. Want to keep one class of everyone. Anyway, back to playing I'll probably ignore all TO videos for long while till I at least have one playthru. Thank you very much for them but I enjoy Reborn too much to listen about it.

Fair enough, but that would be the armor system kicking in. So archers can't penetrate well, but scale super well. Things like Fear and Breach can see them throwing around meaty numbers, but using them to pick off weaker units when needed is also just as viable. Many were upset due to them being a bit too...mercifully balanced in the original PSP version. In essence, they could, even on accident, be optimized into ignoring armor entirely. They didn't need many changes, so they would snowball with the few skills they had ranking up, ultimately seeing them one-shotting units in heavy armor across the map...until the post game, where they dropped off unless re-optimized for augments. It was weird to explain, but they definitely still have a role here. In many cases, even leaving them as AI can be surprisingly viable. They're just not meant to be the opening attack vs heavy units.

@@CoffeePotato Sorry, I probably didn't write correctly. I'm just happy to see you covering game that much and must stop myself forcefully from watching it at the same time to enjoy great game more. But still wanted to thank you for all the videos nontheless so did comment. Yes, overall archers are still quite usable for attacking rear units which usually less as armored. As well as moving enemies with mighty shot, and I imagine it'll even get better when I get more skills and equipment. Game overall leads new player like me to have healthy party combination. Like knights for tanking and blocking movement, healers to keep HP up for whole party and recruit in case, damage dealers to additionally remove enemies and help stop their advance and attack, wizards to attack or debuff enemies regardless of terrain, archers - to pick off weaker units or finish off stronger ones. So as completely new player it's hard to see archers negatively, they do their role well.

Archers don't do shit against Knights. Hit for 1 damage, hit for 2 damage...

Yes but they do hundreds of damage vs squishy units. They aren't meant to shoot knights, they are meant to pick off mages and clerics in the backline, they are meant to get 100% stun/silence proc chances and completely shut down the enemy or force them to waste a turn removing a status effect. Saying they do 1 damage to tanks is stupid It's like me saying my melee unit does 0 ranged damage... Yeah no shit.

It was crazy, the percentages for achievements updated today. Appears to be at least a 30% increase in owners of this game, if not more. 100% on saving wrongway went down to 79%, Nybeth from 70% to 12.9%. Seems like the hype is real and sales are booming. Like everything in this version, people are just caught out by needing to participate with the games mechanics and not completely ignore them by maxing out.

Referring to Archers are "armored" enemies is pretty hilarious. Breach and Fear and Strengthen are great, but they help your melee units just as much as your Archers. When the actual difficult fights in this game come and you're facing a highly armored boss unit 2 levels above you and immune to fear, Archers aren't the unit you turn to.

I love my archer. Having a ranged finisher to finish off an enemy to let my heavy hitters dmsck another unit, a guaranteed crit to knock back and help control enemy positioning as well as dealing plink damage to weaken an enemy before they hit my Frontline? Yes please. Not to mention the finisher effects too

The main problem is until late in the game, they just simply cannot get in range of squishies without putting themselves in danger. Not to mention, majority of fights put you at height disadvantage. Using casters with debuffs and indirect area spells is way more consistent and a ton safer. Eagle eye is great for spreading debuffs, but most the gear that has debuff on hit is late game. Hawkmen negate some of the range issues with flying to high ground.

Yeah, I'm struggling to get any use out of archers but only just started act 3...I feel I'm playing the game wrong sometimes or I'm missing something. One thing that is frustrating is Gryphon's just tend to jump out of rampart and b-line my cleric... Could you do a tower stage tutorial?

So, as somebody who hasn't play TO since the PS1 game, and let's be honest, I was like 8 so I had 0 idea what I was doing then. Can you explain how units are scaling in combat? I play plenty of other games where things have scaling but I'm not sure I get the in game scaling by just standing around and passing?

So the thing about TO is that attacking at the right moment is often more important than DPS. Essentially what I'm doing with the archers is refusing to waste their time on scratches when I can wait for better openings for them to exploit. On paper, it would seem like anyone could exploit lower defense, low health, bad positioning, etc. Archers, however, can afford to wait, looking for those moments to apply pressure at just the right time to make a difference from a mile away.

Archers are boss, for support damage, and abilities that guarantee hits, crits, breach armor, but I'm talking about older version, may be different now. Also good for pecking to weaken others. Pair them with valkyries, or a rogue with a cross bow.

Yeah, it's a really solid tool to use offensively. Why spend an extra action attacking when you can roll for a chance of either a free unit or all of their stuff? While I assume most use the money exploit, playing without it, this is also a great money maker while also boosting your strategy side. Even if they don't make the cut in the long term, for now, they're meat. If they're unimpressive, fire them and they'll hand over their stuff for free.

Well, from my experience in PSP, a pure ninja (level 1 to max on ninja level) is squishy as hell BUT they are really good as skirmisher and disrupter. So as an experiment, I use Denam and level up as Knight > Berserker > Ninja > Lord (can't remember how the level distribution goes though). The results? A surprisingly very tanky double attacker that's also strong and can one shot most squishy while the tankier enemies gets 1/3 of their health gone. For those other PSP players, yes, I know this is not the best use of a very versatile and hybrid capable class, and yes I know about the Light Lord build. Not sure yet how reborn will handle Lord though. But from my experiment with Ninja in reborn so far, the simplest analogy I can give you is that they are like rune fencer but more on range and debuff instead

Totally unrelated but I got a ninja question. Could I stack envenom and benumb and lets say get a weapon that applies something other than poison and silence to hit with 3 debuffs or those status giving ninja abilities cannot stack and even with either of envenom and benumb combined with a dagger that gives silence, the silence never seems to apply.

You can stack, but it's a little like this: Bow chance is independent of weapon poison, so you can stack them, but can only have one ninja buff active. You can guarantee both by having an Archer nearby with Eagle Eye. So...Shortbow with Envenom can do Stun+Poison, for example. If EE isn't active, it's about a 25% ish chance for Stun, but it's still there behind the weapon buff.

As I understand it you say a bow with secondary stat will apply that stat every time if you have a 100% to hit. However, I have a bird guy with a shorbow with Stun and I am yet to seem him apply it once after 5 battles. In the other hand the ninja, with the same bow applys it always ONLY if she has her ability active too. Same is true for a Valkyre I have wielding a breach spear. The breach effect doesn't always trigger even if the hit is 100%. Am I missunderstanding something here?

Yup, a 100% move guarantees the chance proc. Eagle Eye and Tremendous would guarantee the Stun, while Back Attack wouldn't. Ninja buffs are guaranteed to land, but not always guaranteed to be available.

It's possible you're misunderstanding the "100%". You will very often show 100% hit, but what's meant when saying "your on-hit will always proc for 100% hits", is that they'll always proc on hits that have a special 100% modifier applied, like Eagle Eye, Tremendous Shot, the equivalent of each that Warrior gets for melee, the attacks Dragoon gets, etc.

Nothing in this video contradicts what people have been saying which is that archer's don't scale well into late game and are in contention for being the weakest class. Late game fusiliers and mages both do significantly better ranged damage late game and archers are almost never worth the slot

Problem with archers is mages are now sooo much better for 80% of the game, there's very few story scenarios in all of my Law playthrough where an archer was more useful than a wizard in his stead or an extra rune fencer. Archers are a win - more class that's designed to gimp the enemy backline, but 70% of maps are played uphill and archers can only realistically hit the frontline units...

Kind of. In a direct fight, that's fair, but there's more factors. So for uphill, they can swap for crossbows, and Tremendous on a Blowgun+1 is already a guaranteed stun shot in Chapter 2. Baldur Crossbow can also silence like the bow. With good movement, they can avoid contact or take light damage before disabling a caster if we go for the 1v1 scenario. They're both capable of overheads and missiles, and casters definitely have the more consistent damage, while archers are better at getting precise things where they're needed reliably. Like if a unit was poisoned and ran away, it's dangerous to risk a caster moving forward to finish them, so they wander uncontested. Archers can engage from father away, and technically at better angles, giving them safer opportunities to deal with the far unit. Obviously everything's situational, but that's how I see it, anyway.

@@CoffeePotato Completely valid arguments, but I'm mostly just comparing them to the utility of an extra wizard. Archers are usable and playable for sure, but my argument lies in the far greater utility a wizard would give instead for a greater portion of fights. Not saying wizards are always superior, far from it, archers are great in SOME cases, but less than wizards in general.

Hello i have a question, how does wade skill work ? It allows you to go in water with movement penalty . So everyone in my team has it for some reason. My denam is warrior and when i changed him in terror knight he lost the ability to go in the water ... And i changed him back to warrior and that skill didn't come back . And my other terror knight can swim ( has wade skill).

It's on upgraded body armor now. So you probably had a Buldur +1, and swapped into a robe.

Archer used a plume from store to Strengthen, picked up a Phys card, activated Tremendous Shot to auto-crit, and was firing against a lighter-equivalent armored enemy who was afflicted with both Frighten and Breach. This is basically best-case scenario.

Yeah this looks Archers seem severely underwhelming imo. I'm on chapter 3 so far and I beserkers and rune fencers seem the most OP. I just have a bunch of them with 2 clerics casting boon of swiftness and they obliterate everything. I even use AI for most boss fights because beserkers just kill everything with beserk + sanguine combo (500+ AOE damage), and rune fencers can heal and do massive damage with ruination and they have amazing mana gain with meditate 2.

Because you're still playing the damage game. Video in this hopefully tomorrow, but every class has their moments, there is only one OP class, because it's a team effort. Every unit just has their role. Berserks hit hard, but they need support. Fencers are very adaptable, but don't have much push. Archers are reliable, but can't penetrate. I'm in Coda 4 still running 2 archers in my main team, because guaranteed mind control is hilarious.

Thanks for making these videos, they are extremely helpful! I think one of the confusing things about this game is that there isn't a clear way to calculate how much damage an attack is supposed to do. I find myself just haphazardly checking the damage and it all seems like a crapshoot if the damage will be 1 or 100. In other games, you can easily tell by looking at stats. In this game, it doesn't appear that stats translate 1 to 1 between classes, etc. You stated that archers scale better. Well how the hell are we supposed to know that? Is there a stat or a manual or tutorial that tells us this? Can you do a video on stats and what they actually do, i.e attack value vs strength, etc.? Which number are we supposed to be putting more value in? I did go through your damage calculation video, but it doesn't seem to apply to archers. Or I could be completely wrong, which is highly possible. Loving this game and this content!

Ranged attackers were OP in the psp version. In this version, they are good for half of the first chapter and that's it. My 300 DEX/AGI lv50 Canopus with enchiridion ranged weapon is useless against something with mid-tier armor, let alone heavy armor. To put it in perspective, bow/dagger does more dmg for him since the wind finishing move is crazy (aligned with his element). Rune Fencers (haste, ease, spears), White knights (velocity rush stonks), mages because poison and petriburst are broken.

Yes, but like everything else, there's way more to it. They scale harder than anyone else still, but their debuff spam alone makes them useful. I think their issue is that they're undefinable. Most units you can just say "this dude do big number", or "this AoE unit do many big number". Archers it's like "they did what I needed when I needed it reliably." How do I put a number on that?

You have to be within two tiles. The closer, the higher the chance. You also want to knock their hit points down. I don't know about this version, but on older version, you could look at their stats and see if they are dissatisfied making it easier.

Missions only, you want to shoot for lower health (Loyalty and HP decide odds, hit Select or it's equivalent and scroll to their name to know their loyalty when talking to their boss). If a unit is hit with Fear, Charm, Sleep, Petrify, or is otherwise not right in the head, it'll display a red X saying they're an invalid target. When their head is clear, and they're damaged enough to talk, you'll get a blue circle.

If archer's strength higher than target's strength, apply dex bonus. Otherwise dealing tiny damage. Dex bonus can be pretty big if target's defense got broken.

This is flawed thinking. If a class needs others to do what others do by themselves it has no role. The complaint isn't that archers cannot work at all but that they have no role of their own. In terms of ranged dmg dealers any other class can do it better. Vartans have far more flexibility in dmg and movement, ninjas have imbuements, movement, magic dmg and look cooler. To inflict effects again the above mentioned classes do better. I am willing to be proven wrong. If you can show me any scenario where an archer does something that cannot be replaced by any other bow wielding class i will admit they have a place.

Which is flawed logic in and of itself as well. That's also like saying Designated Marksmen shouldn't exist because Infantry go in first. TO is about team work, their role is support marksman, and they do it well.

100% mean to contribute to a positive discussion here: I think the argument being made is that classes with other roles fulfill the Designated Marksman role just as well as the Archer (the actual Designated Marksman). If other classes can fulfill this role, and also have extra utility, why choose an Archer over one of the other roles?

I noticed this recently as well, maybe a human archer isn't the way to go, but perhaps a vartan archer would be. As for the human archer on my team, I gave her the plus 1 bows that have status effects added, that makes her hugely more useful. I still don't trust her to kill anything besides fairies and mages though

First off, the immediate answer to your fairly rude response OP is that yes there's something only archers can do that cannot be replaced by any other unit, which is to be able to fire the longest range attacks possible, even beyond their shown limitations. Sure you can put a bow on a Vartan or a Ninja, but only a short bow, which is going to require that they get closer and open themselves up for counter attack. The long bows archers get have so much more range than shortbows that getting free ranged attacks with decent/same damage that, importantly, cannot be countered directly if you're going super long range and firing outside of their proscribed firing arc. I.E. Archers are the only class that make completely safe physical attacks. If they kept the infinite range of guns for fusiliers that the OG game had, you might have a point. But they didn't, so you don't.

Have longest range in the game outside of fusiliers who do direct fire so environmental cover is the bigger factor for them, vartans have expensive RT flight allowing archers to shoot more often, ninjas don't equip longbows. Truth is archers and fusiliers are the best designated marksmen with archers wreaking havoc from elevated positions and fusiliers supporting uphill approach (though archers can also contribute should you give them crossbows). Vartans and ninjas simply are shorter range which means they are not the designated marksman, it's like saying snipers are obsolete since any retard could have 16x scope on his M4...

Crossbows have area finishers. They are better at fighting enemy in high ground position compared to bows.

Yes, but no. They're more stretched than inflated. A good finisher use will still be a solid chunk of that bar, but the plinks went from all 1s to varying smaller numbers, allowing for more scaling shenanigans, and better clues as to what's working.

Some, but not all. They get some of the bow scaling damage, but longbows scale harder. They also can only make use of the short ranged variants. They also don't have redundant 100% chance moves under different triggers for the secondaries.

I seriously think Matsuno archers are simply plagued with off-key player visions more than anything. Everyone expects lone sniper assassin and not ranged consistency. Like people call them useless in FFT but they also use Dual Wield, 2x Knight Swords endgame units as the comparison to the first 3/4ths of the game where Archers are gonna upkeep pressure.

True stuff, a Single Class Archer challenge of FFT was an absolute blast. Became this SWAT flavored experience. Take a hit to boost speed, stack to control contact, stack speeds to focus fire one guy at a time. It was neat.

Dont we get tired slotting same party again and again vs all enemy? Now reborn fixed that. You want archer vs heavy spell/heal enemy. You want rampart vs heavy melee. Sometimes you want cleric to counter enemy mage bombard. Its balanced so well and the game even hint how to clear the stage with objective: use this unit.

Is this video an irony or something? Archers are literally the weakest class in game by far. You need to waste 5 turns preparing everything so archer can do barely decent damage, in that time mele units will already kill everything and they dont even need to fear, breach whatever an enemy. Nope. They have a lot of useful tricks, but it takes some understanding of the armor mechanics here. No one just "does damage." They do their types of damage with their variants against different armors, statuses, scaling, etc. Every interaction is different. Archers have the highest scaling with fairly low initial phase penetration. The Breach Fear trick works as a "look how they scale" example, but that's just one of their tricks. (For context, they get double or more damage out of scaled scenarios. This means a triple dip into a Str/Fear/Breach is going to do a lot more for them than others.) I made a separate video showing how you can handle bosses with them just fine.
