Making Ramza a monk basically turns him into Jonathan Joestar, lives by the wishes of a dead/ailing father to be a true Beoulve, learns to channel healing power and punch his foes to death, and has to confront his ambitious Brother who was poisoning his father, and other that was turned vampire.

The balance to the original FFT was actually designed that way because they wanted "every job to be viable" as part of the narrative of "It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, everyone can be useful". So it resulted in easy OP builds and a cake endgame with minimal grinding necessary.

Delita didn't die from getting stabbed by Ovelia. At the beginning of the game when you select your name and zodiac, it doesn't mention at all that he died at the end of the war, so this implies that Delita lived to rule Ivalice for a long time.

I’m possibly just horrendously biased cause I played A2 so much as a kid, but it is still one of my favorite games to go back to and just do everything in. Never really realized it was grinding until now, probably because it was how I played as a kid. And I still think it’s one of the most enjoyable games to figure out and do everything in.

I came to realize as I got older that while I love putting together character builds and customizing my clan in A2, I don't actually like playing the actual game very much. KBash really hit the nail on the head with the battles, they're slow and take too long to be worth playing as an adult.

tbh by end game fights become much faster the problem with a2 that was never fixed trough all of fft is grinding is aways present though kbash describes the original with more love and care in reality grinding wise is still worse than a2 at least, i tried playing ffta and it felt even worse than the original bcz it was slow af though i may be biased since the last time a played each was fft > ffta2 and finally much more recently ffta so it may be fresher in my memory and it's just my head playing tricks on me, but i'm pretty sure the grind in fft2a wasn't that bad bcz u could just nuke your enemies and farm all the ap needed while(coupled with easy fights) to grinding on the original it was by actions and even with the jp up you still needed an absurd amount of actions to farm a decent amoun of jp

Ramza is the literal master of all trades if you try hard enough. Hell, he's actually better as a square first and any job second. The amount of crazy op shit you can do to make him hit like a truck TWICE BAREHANDED, DUAL WIELD KIRITO STYLE TWICE AGAIN or even theoretically oneshots an ENTIRE map of enemies by being a mage and having arithmetics on him.
@pearperapare
@pearperapare 3 жыл бұрын
Admittedly, Ramza's Squire having an actual magic growth does put him above generics in terms of being a caster, as long as you spend time leveling it. I'm pretty sure that's why they made Ultima so mediocre, because a fully-kitted mage Ramza can still do decent damage with it just off of his inherently-superior stats.
@HighPriestFuneral
@HighPriestFuneral 3 жыл бұрын
@@pearperapare Ramza's also the only unit to have both Male/Female growths at equal rates, so he gets bonus of both MA and PA at the same rate as both genders, making him the best Male mage in the game... I think.
@pearperapare
@pearperapare 3 жыл бұрын
@@HighPriestFuneral Technically, assuming you don't use Mime scumming, Orlandeau is the best male mage; level him in his base job, then switch him to Black Mage, and he'll have better MA than anyone else. This is due to Holy Swordsman / Sword Saint having an MA growth of 42, vs Ramza's Squire's growth of 48 and the default rate of 50; in this game, the lower the number, the faster the growth. But I would say that Ramza is the best mage who doesn't already have something better to do, and he'll still end up with several points more MA than just about anyone else by the end.
@HighPriestFuneral
@HighPriestFuneral 3 жыл бұрын
@@pearperapare Hmm, Orlandeau having just Male Stat growths doesn't offset his MA considerable to his Job Stat Growth? I was never really good with the math in FFT, I'm afraid, especially when it came to calculating level ups and job stat growths and all that jazz.
@pearperapare
@pearperapare 3 жыл бұрын
@@HighPriestFuneral No, you're completely right; I didn't realize how little relevance stat growths had in this game until this conversation led me to dive a bit deeper into it. Even with his slightly-better growth, Ramza is so close to a female generic that you only get a single-point difference at very high levels (~70+) if you're comparing them in classes with high MA base (Black Mage, Time Mage, Summoner). Orlandeau will be a few points weaker than this, even with his stellar MA growth, and generic males will be a point or two behind him. I remember making such a big deal about growths back in the day, it's kind of incredible to find out that they don't really matter, barring a couple outliers.

I was 12 and saw the art and classes on the back and begged my mom to get it for me for $9.99 and I would pay her back when we got home from my secret savings. I found this strange game with so much replay value as I learned the classes and combinations and Items...we also didn’t have the internet so randomly unlocking new classes through chance leveling in other classes was very exciting and seeing what skills did in battle was amazing. I was a dumb 12 year old so I just wanted a party of Knights with black magic and it took me awhile to learn the other classes or like how good monks could be or or how good skills from certain classes are used in combination. this game was quirky and amazing and somehow so predictable but like you said felt very alive and rewarding to unlock something....this game can he broken or strange but in such great ways....absolutely my favorite game.... also to anyone reading this who will play the first time...use multiple saves....if the game automatically asks you to save then save in a new slot... I'm really glad Final Fantasy Tactics exists. FFT, and other games written by Matsuno, just seem to get universal praise for their writing and ever since I watched a playthrough of the first part of FFT (the Corpse Brigade arc, as I like to call it) it's easy to see why. The story actually got some emotional investment out of me, the characters felt real, the conflict didn't need an infestation of contrivances like magical brainwashing/possession to replace actual motivations. FE got me into SRPGs/TRPGs, but the plots never really got me to care like this game did. Anyway, point is I've been meaning to try Matsuno's games for a long time now and knowing there's a version of WoTL that helps minimize frustration and gets rid of the annoying slowdown, I might just need to bump it up on my to do list. Great video, loved your "War Story Genre" vid too. Keep up the good work man.

I just sat through 3/4 of the video about a man bitching about the sequel games not being in the same caliber as the first and what pains me is the monotone irritating voice. I feel bad for him coming into the mindset that video games should only be one thing. For this spin off series its supposed to be "Dark, Mature, Adult themed" and it should be consistent throughout. I think he failed to capture how the games had different goals in mind specially with FFTA. FFTA in itself was never meant to be taken seriously since it was targeted to welcome a younger demographic into a niche genre and Its never a bad thing to have a story that has the bright and colorful aspect of adventure, the central plot of reality and escapism told in a kid centric to theme and to give us a simple lesson by the end. In fact, I could argue that it gets better the more you get older as you get to symphatize more with the character motivations with real life experiences. Maybe next time you should play the game for what it is and not what its supposed to be with the themes established on the first game, trust me that the gameplay experience will be far more different than having that mindset.

Thanks for the video!, i really enjoyed it. Here is my take on the situation, as it seems a big point for you was how dumbed down the second game is and how the story doesnt measure up to the first game. The entire series is a social commentary on the movement of civilization through time and the struggles of a good hearted person in a cruel world. in the first game, FFT(WOL), this was the reality (to an extent) for people historically. there was no interconnection of communities or laws of war. the stakes where huge. entire villages/towns/cities could live and be wiped out and no one would know except the people doing the wiping and the scouts reporting to their dukes and fifes. the whole discussion of a social class was the most prevalent in a world before internet, where you were expected to make and build and provide everything yourself in poverty, and culture was passed parent to child, where as the rich and religious had easy access to food and education. FFTA is a commentary of how the stakes have changed on our social planet. we now have NATO, rules of engagement, borders with shared/public maps, globalized policing, globalized supply shipping, and so the problems have changed, and so the way problems are handled changed. before globalization of information, a child, a teen, would stand up to be the "man of the family" and make big decisions, and do hard work collecting wood and hunting or farming, and fight wars, but in the sequel, we see a world where kids can be kids, and being a kid can still really freakin suck, so much sometimes, you want to teleport to an imaginary world, where you can have structure and rules, and progressing makes sense, and fights are winnable, an ideal of how the kids want the world to be, rather than what it is. we see a world where everything is mitigated by judges and prisons, where the class of citizens is accepted by the general public in an overruled dystopia, where you still are forced to grind and build your own world, but you are forced to use cookie cutter tools rather than make your own, and if you use the wrong tool at the wrong time, boom, red card. back even as recently as the early 1900's we used opium to let terminal patients in hospitals die peacefully, but today, big red card from the judge. the world has changed, and will keep changing, the progression of the games story, reflect the world they were written from. the issue i have with the reflection of the second game, FFTA, is that it pretends the war and grasps for power in the first game are not still happening. in history, humans have this terrible habit of writing in a way to say, this is how it is, and now its over, but its not. countries are still trying to expand borders, despots are still reaching for power, and loving people, with big hearts, are still dying to protect the world from unseen evils. it all happens differently now, but it still happens. FFTWOL is soldiers fighting in a field for their right to eat and sleep, FFTA is abused/neglected children seeking control over their lives under the rule of a dystopian justice system designed to make them hurt each other to get ahead(capitalism, clans are a euphemism for start-ups taking each other off the market or even rival gangs). as for FFTA2, no clue whats going on there...

Delita doesn’t get stabbed to death,…just stabbed. He kills her and he survives and goes on to rule the land, getting a great reputation of a noble hero and dies of old age. I thought delita died too the first time though too.

To this day I'm still pissed I didn't get Ritz, my favorite character. I always get stuck really late in the game on some map with an asshole judge that has bullshit rules. Like I can't use physical or magical attacks. To my 14 year old self that basically told me to stop playing the game.

The original Tactics is still my favourite game of all time. I constantly wish for a new game in the series that has the emotional impactful story of the first game with all the interesting races, new jobs, and improved mechanics from the last.

I don't think Delita dies at the end. Yeah he's wounded but the scene ends with him thinking back to everything he had to sacrifice to his quest for power, one of them being his friendship with Ramza. Delita is considered a hero, he's now a king but he's more alone than ever, Ovelia's death at his hands opened his eyes to the monster he became. I think that's a way worse fate than death. On the other hand Ramza gets the best thing anyone could get after a conflict that huge, a clean slate, he's considered dead but he managed to save his sister, so we can assume the allies that were with him are also alive somewhere. Ramza has friends around him and the power to actually live his life now. Two childhood friends that ended up in the opposite sides from which they began, Ramza was essentially royalty and now he's literally nobody while Delita began as a commoner and now he's a king. And yet at that very last scene my mind always goes back to them being together, watching the sunset and making whistles out of blades of grass. Storywise the original FFT is one of the best if not the best FF title to date and it's sad that's Square Enix has forgotten about it for so many years. So yeah the game is not balanced and you can breeze through it if you grind but if gameplay is the only thing you're looking for then maybe FFT is not for you.

I played FFT War of the Lions years after FFTA and A2 (because FFT never hit Europe and I didn't have the console for it anyway). It was probably the hardest tactics game I had played at the time, only to turn into the easiest by the endgame, when I had trained some Chocobos to ride. I never used the Teleport or ignore Height abilities because I didn't want to grind for them. Also, breeding for the right chocobos then riding them in combat just filled my monster collecting infested heart with joy. Good times. Back then, I was very confused, as my only connections to FFT were FFTA and A2 and those games are vastly different in tone. I enjoyed FFT as I played it (even though I *did* get frustrated a ton by the early game before reading up on some mechanics) but to be quite honest, I vastly prefer the more happy-go-lucky colorful sequels for replays even if FFT is technically better written. I really hope we eventually get more FFT games, no matter the type of story they go with.

The original FFT was a major deal for me back when I was a kid. I had almost no expectations for it since it was just a spin off game, and it ended up blowing me away. I've played FFT more times and for more hours than every other PS1 FF game combined. It just had so many interesting things to do. So many fun ways to build your team and interesting story characters to use. There was always some new interesting way to become super powerful each time I played. And the more I played it the more and more I started to appreciate the mature storyline. It was a huge influence on me back then, and after I played it over and over I started hunting for anything and everything that was "like FFT" and I found some really weird games while hunting for that. Nothing ever held up to FFT either, not Tactics Ogre and especially not either of the FFT sequels. FFTA was... a disappointment for me. I was older, and I had been searching for another game as good as FFT for years at this point. The game felt so childish and easy to me. I got pretty far, but late in the game once 4 laws were constantly in place at once I just gave up. I wasn't enjoying it and I didn't want to bother with it anymore. I bought FFTA2 and barely played it. I maybe played it for a few hours at most. My only memory of it was learning that they took the. classic FF jobs and broke them into tiny mini jobs instead and I hated that. Like they stripped White Mage of all buffs and gave them to a new mage. Things like that. And after that I just stopped playing.

Yeah I loved Final Fantasy Tactics the time I seen it JP version back in the day. The interesting part is that the Jobs Final Fantasy Tactics uses are from Final Fantasy V. Knowing Ogre Battle from the Snes(been playing it and beating it countless times) seeing Tactics Ogre come out on PS1 was a surprise. I didn't know Ogre Battle had a follow up in JP. Honestly I like Tactics Ogre much more then Final Fantasy Tactics ... mainly because unless you misuse the Tarot Cards enemies drop ... it is not as broken as Final Fantasy Tactics is. Yasumi Matsuno seems to only know how to make Civilwar like Stories. The story of Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story and allot of the other games he worked on have that story.

The whole point of the class thing in tactics was to show that the only difference between oppressors and oppressed. Its the position they find themselves at that point. Delita turned to be even worse than many of the nobles he killed in his road to become king as a born commoner. The illusion of oppressed= good oppressor = bad. What makes the difference its your own values and decisions. The excuse of "oppress the oppressor" Its just the same power games all played by monsters of different castes or positions, but monsters nonetheless .

It's pretty funny, because A2 is the game who's *gameplay* I felt most immediately drawn to. The story is... _only_ 'okay'. I enjoyed it more when I was younger, then now just kinda overlook it for what other things I enjoy about the game. So much about FFT is near-perfect, but A2 for me happened to capture the need for *more* thought put into most things - at least, until you could become as broken as the prior titles let you be. There are also a few classes introduced in A2 who's overall idea was *fascinating* to me; though it's mostly just the Cannoneer (and Flintlock by extension). Something about making your basic attack the most flexible multitool with setup from prior turns is stupid fun to me.

The Tactic series is a weird one. I love and appreciate the player creativity that both Advance games give you access to but they do feel like a water down version of the first game. The first Tactics is a fantastic game however, one that likely introduced more people to the world of Tactic based games. It's a game that hopefully gets revived a bit with the new Triangle Tactics. A lot of promise of that original Tactics game in that projects DNA.

This is most definitely not a game for casuals. It's not a game you can just jump into and play. It's a game with very complex mechanics that must be learned or you won't get very far. I remember as a young kid it was the most complex game I had ever played, and me and my friend had a BLAST learning together & talking on the phone, trading ideas and things that we had learned as we played, and we slowly got better and better at it as we learned it's mechanics. Now I am at the point where I am basically a FFT god and have deep knowledge of all the games mechanics, and it's still an absolute blast to play, specially with specialized versions that increase the difficulty by a significant amount.

Matsuno stated in an interview that Ovelia didn't die from Delita stabbing her back. I guess in an effort to paint him in a better light since that was his intention in FFXIV's Return to Ivalice storyline. Doesn't make much difference to Delita's fate, but I guess Ovelia's fate can be left up to more flexible interpretation like Ramza and co.
