It's a game changer only if it is at least 15-20% cheaper than A320. The fuel saving doesn't stand out despite LEAP powered. Unless Comac make the plane much lighter, the aircraft in its current state is only interesting for poor airlines that only want to maintain routes and flights. Also, unless we have another Covid-like disaster, or a war on a larger scale than Ukraine, I don't think western countries will struggle enough to think of buying cheaper aircraft than Airbus/Boeing.

I want to clarify something. Hongdu is NOT a place, it's a factory. The video sounds like it's a city like Shanghai, but the actual name for the city is Nanchang. I know it because I'm from that city and typing this comment literally kilometres from the proposed manufacturing plant. Hongdu is kind of a nickname given to the city because of its long history of flooding. (The word 'Hongdu' literally translates to 'flood city' or 'flood capital') It's a strange thing to be proud of constant flooding, but we do name factories here 'Hongdu' something factory, like the plane factory in this video. This is the factory that produced the first jet fighter for the PLA Air Force. But it got overtaken in the defense sector by factories in Chengdu and Shenyang. Now it's pivoting towards commercial jets by taking up the C919.

@@gelinrefira That's a good point. What were the Chinese supposed to do, put the engines on top of the wings? That would have been great fun for the passengers. There was also better quality and refinement. That competition inspired my fellow Americans to do better, but there was a lot of anti-Japanese/anti-Asian bitterness being expressed. Now I see the same ugly reactionism toward the Chinese. My fellow Americans should focus more on what we are doing, or what we are not doing, but should. It has been speculated (and refuted, of course) that the bodies of hundreds of unpaid Chinese railroad workers would be found at the bottom of Lake Tahoe today...preserved by the ultra cold temperatures down there. I wouldn't be surprised if this was true...even after all the 'fact-checking'...🤔🤨🧐

Its inauguration flight is 2012, refered to 2018 Wikipedia. Number built is 10 as of Dec 21, 2022. FAA just endorsed 919 in the last minute, most airlines in China hardly buy it. Such a promising jetliners. ......

Always informative Sky! The 919's development is logical and the strategy sound. It a certain, that the strategy will try to balancer an EASA-FAA domination, stained by the 737 MAX and the FAA's relationship. There's still a part of me that wishes Asia coming into these new markets could innovate more instead of chasing after what the Werst does. When I go to China and see their SUVs, it's like any other. I wish they could add more Asian flair dot them, if not on the design part.

its interesting then why the chinese just put in a bumper order for the airbus a320 series of aircraft. the c919 will need composite wings to get the weight down, but im sure thats possible in future as china seems to be able to scale and adapt quickly. just look at their car industry.

@@kicker3595 Utter bullshit. Why do trolls make up lies out of thin air? According to Boeing's own stats, the A320ceo is 80 times safer than the 737MAX, 3 times safer than the 737 Classic, and slightly better (not statistically significant different) than the 737NG. You are about one order of magnitude off on the death numbers, and Habsheim (which was NOT the 1st flight) was caused by the pilots literally flying into the forest due to lack of airshow planning (the FBW saved most onboard by not allowing a stall). Since then the A320 has an accident rate of 0.08 per million (the neo is at 0.00), compared to 7.12 with the 737MAX. Source: skybrary.aero/sites/default/files/bookshelf/32664.pdf

To say all this is not just McDonnell Douglas making the DC-9 and 10 in China, but Airbus was the first aircraft manufacture to build a facility in Tianjin to assemble A320s, this could also lead toward Airbus and it’s new market of strategy. Companies like Mitsubishi, and Honda from Japan are also in the works but most likely it is more possible to see Qantas using a passenger aircraft build by a company from Japan than in a COMAC- C919. Markets ready not to count Airbus out as Airbus acquired Bombardier from Canada and yet soon Airbus will have a Korean manufacture under their belt; that projects on the next A320 will be the most fuel efficient passenger aircraft in the world not to say what Airbus will do next after the failure of the Boeing 737 MAX 9 yet a newer more state of the art Airbus A320 plane; could be on the works of a Boeing failure in South Korea. But in that case COMAC-C919 could have a tough time competing with Boeing and Airbus while Boeing where to fail in South Korea, then Airbus acquired Korea Aerospace Industries and gets involved with the F-21 Hawk project known as Boramae as government contracts switched to be in favor of Airbus and Airbus will probably end up working with NASA and probably be involving with South Korea’s space projects; to say potential for Airbus will be the Airbus Korea division will be more successful and South Korea becomes Airbus country that all South Korean Airliners will only use Airbus and nothing else.
I'm glad that the C919 and MC21 exist, but wish they could be the same project.
@mrrolandlawrence Жыл бұрын
the mc21 is more advanced. it has composite wings for a start. Its comparable to an A320 Neo. its also a lot cheaper than the c919.

I can't see this being successful outside of Chinese domestic market. Like you mentioned in the video the maintenance infrastructure isn't in place like boeing, airbus or even embraer. Furthermore, aircrafts such as the a320 neo, max 8, a220 and the new E2 are proven to be very popular. Which it's going to be hard for the c919 to compete against, it uses A LOT of foreign components. Which it turn it could be problematic with the raising tensions with China and the west.
@danielh4295 Жыл бұрын
I too only see this in domestic China, 3rd world countries with strong China ties, or some upstart ultra low cost that can't find any inventory to lease. The shorter range, lower capacity, and lower efficiency makes it not worthwhile for any major airline to invest resource and further segregate their already thinned out (post COVID) pilot roster. That said, it is a decent start and having a new manufacturing pipeline is always good in this sub category. COMAC will need another generation to catch up.

The Chinese may have something here. "Most airlines do not care about the latest carbon fiber components or lowering CO2 by 20%" Neither does anyone who flies in the US. We fly Southwest because we want the cheapest. Building a aircraft that carries 190 to 250 passengers with a range of under 3000 miles is ideal for the domestic Chinese market. That said, I think COMAC is decades from being in Boeing or Airbus radars. But the Chinese are very patient.

@StephenKarl_Integral Жыл бұрын
@@oxcart4172 Actually 95% of people communicating about environment get paid to do so, but they don't give a fkuc. Then, 99.99 of lambda people believe them, thinking there are some global political effort to save Earth; people aren't aware it is all a huge lie and will remain so. Example, the solar panel is not what it is : yes, it's "free" and (almost) "carbon-free" energy once operational, but 1) it's as dirty as fossil energy to produce, very toxic and at the expense of large landmass destruction, and 2) once dead, it becomes garbage twice as dirty as fossil deposits... and 3) you can't use only solar (or wind), those require gas, coal fallback when not producing enough energy, meaning, you actually build as much dirty CO2 factories park as solar factories to make electricity for cities and industries. That's why companies like GP, Total, ELF (...) are funding solar, wind and hydrogen, because that's one efficient way to ensure their infrastructure remains operational - business. People aren't doing solar panels to save Earth, they are doing it because you get 80% of the money for FREE. And it's pretty much the same for everything else.
