Enzo was a really top quality fighter. I've spoken to people who saw him in the amateurs and in the gym...they say the power he had was a blessing and a curse. He actually was a much better boxer/mover than he showed on fight night....but, he loved a scrap and knew he could end anyone in the world with one punch. Johnny was brilliant too in a different way. The ultimate over-achiever...and that's something to be proud of. He really did things the hard way. Then when he peaked, he would be a nightmare for anyone to fight.

Matthew Gallagher you seem to be arguing against a point I haven’t made. I knew that Haye was past his best when he fought Bellew, but I didn’t realise just how far past it he was. Even a 75% version of the prime Haye would have beaten Bellew, and given that Haye was only 37 when he lost the second time, I was surprised he had fallen so far.

Big Mac was a brave man but his level was found somewhere around european level. No shame there he had a good career. I still remember Haye pummeling him on the ropes. He took some punishing shots that day. The gulf between Haye (an elite fighter) v Enzo (eiropean) was quite telling I think Nelson operated at a level above and would have beaten him.

Total contrast of styles... Nelson very good boxer with no knockout power who ran away for 12 rounds whereas maccarinelli had loads of knockout power but no boxing skills who would just keep on attacking and was a cruiserweight version of nigel Benn. I reckon Nelson would've had too much experience, would've danced away from macs bombs for 12 rounds and won a wide pts decision.

Big Mac never trained properly and it would've been the same with johnny. I loved big Mac (i was a calzaghe fanboy) but it was clear after he fought Haye that he'd found his level.

Johnny was a coward who got a bit better later on in his career as his confidence grew. Enzo was very chinny if he got caught with the same right hand Johnny put on Carl Thomas, Enzo would not have recovered. Enzo was always hittable. It would be Johnny's to lose in my opinion.
