If he finishes with the weight of runs behind him (>12000) and that 60+ average then there's a good change that he will go down as one of the greatest batsman of all time. Commentators these days are so willing to throw around comparisons to the greats of the past but he really does justify alot of his acclaim. Even as an Englishman, I want to see him go down as a legend so that in decades I can say that I watched him bat.

One difference that I've noticed between Smith and Kohli just listening to them talk about their game is that Smith absolutely loves batting and scoring runs for himself, while Kohli loves winning games of cricket for his team and tries to score as many runs as possible for his team in the process. That's probably the thing that makes Kohli a better captain IMO.
@TheJonkerr7

Watch his ashes 2019 test series he could've remain notout in so many innings but he chose not to so that he can boost his team's run rate, in 4th test Match he scored 82 in just 92 balls like he's playing an odi match on a pitch where everyone was struggling to even score 10 runs and yet you're saying that he plays for himself not for his country, just watch the highlights of the first match where he scored 144, he got out both times while trying to hit a boundary and yet you say he's playing for himself, his overall strike rate in that test series was 65, is that the strike rate of a selfish player?

He paid what he had done for and came back strong and still stuck there so sad that is. You can't change the fact that he is best. He will better in future that's for sure

I remember a comment from an Englishman before the last Ashes series were he claimed Smith would have his pads blown off by the English bowlers. Didn't work out for him did it.

You can just see how humble Steve is now comparing to the Steve before the ball tampering incident. What an absolute legend!

No one is better than him he is the best test and odi player at the moment. But one guy can be Marnus Labuschagne but i don't think so. I think that Cricket Australia should give all format captaincy to him.
