This has been the greatest clip ever between Carra and Gary. It shows the big problem of perception. Carra doesn't know Ravel and his opinion is solely based on assumptions. Gary actually knows Ravel and is still in contact with him and he paints a totally different picture of Ravel. This happens so much in football where pundits have so much assumptions about a player without knowing the truth.
@howden104 жыл бұрын
Harsh accusing Jamie of making assumptions. He was going off what Wayne Rooney had written in an article who was an ex-teammate of Ravel's. That's all he had to go off until Gary said about the complexities surrounding Ravel's personal life.
@mann9534 жыл бұрын
@@howden10 You should watch the video again without your Liverpool-glasses. FYI i dont any affiliation to any PL team; im Dutch. If i had any preference it would be Liverpool because of Gini and Virgil. But Carra is clearly making assumptions about Ravel without knowing him. He literally said: "that is something that he (Ravel) lacks". @1:54. After that he does the righ thing by saying that Gary would know better about the Ravel situation because he knows him. Carra should have deferred immediatley and let Gary answer the question. I'll give you an example that you will understand. When Virgil played at FC Groningen in Holland i wanted him to come to Ajax so bad but the big teams in Holland where under the assumption that Virgil was to nonchalant and didn't have the fire on the pitch to be a top player. All because Virgil was very cool and calm and didn't yell at his teammates. But these assumptions were not correct. We all know now that Virgil is a man among boys and that it looks that he is nonchalant and plays in slowmotion because he is so much better than the rest. They just didn't know him.

Chris Wilder has consistently said Ravel has kept his head down and shown a good work rate and attitude this season. I’ve watched all his performances at Sheff Utd and he plays like a super talented Brazillian import. He has soft feet so his 1st touch is still fantastic, still has close control and capable of the odd trick and is unpredictable but he plays more like a 5 a side player trying to play the 11 a game. He looks like he still has ability but is decision making was poor and he was consistently ineffective. Another point was out of possession Ravel looked poor...didn’t seem to know which players to cover and couldn’t tackle. Talent only takes you so far...he played too much like an individual and couldn’t become an effective part of a team. To be honest there’s loads of stories of super talented young players who for whatever reason struggled to break into pro level football.

People need to not be so harsh on players, it’s not all down to work ethic and attitude. Like me I had a difficult upbringing, my best mate passed away, battled with depression and anxiety the whole time I played- when you’re that young you don’t even understand these feelings you have. I was the best player at the academy I played for by a country mile but my mind wouldn’t allow me to believe it, I would skip training and games because of the anxiety leading up to it. I would be forced to play whilst injured because I was ‘the best player’ leading to a lot of serious injuries. the lack of support and understanding of mental health issues in football is still very common. I’m sure it plagues ravel everyday knowing he didn’t reach his potential. Be kind people

That “ man up” saying is so detrimental. Men suffering with depression find it very hard to speak up or to someone and anxiety is paralyzing . You don’t know how bad it is until you have it. Hope your happier now that is what is important . It builds up and implodes on some and it’s awful .

I guess Ravel’s name keeps coming up even in 2020 because he was regarded inside the walls of Old Trafford as a once in a generation talent and was regarded as someone whom if his talent was realised he would be a £100m + player now on £300k a week... but sadly, becoming ‘elite’ in any sport or indeed any industry is not just about talent... in fact, talent probably makes up about 30% of an elite person... work ethic, sheer determination to be the best every minute of every day and single mindedness to that goal make up probably another 60% and in the case of sport, another 10% in luck regarding staying free of serious injuries... I guess Cristiano Ronaldo is the prototype for this! Someone who had raw talent to be a great player but who has now put himself in the top 5 of all time with an unbelievable mental state, dedication and drive...

Maybe Utd should've shipped him away from off-field distractions (after all Ronaldo was 17 too and landed from Portugal/CV)
@JamesFoxx4 жыл бұрын
Sweet GeorgieBoy I think the lad had an extremely troubled background, always knocking about with the wrong crowd... skipping training sessions etc... I guess with hindsight, the club might have taken further steps to control his life outside of the training ground and wrap him in cotton wool, but ultimately there has to be that inner something from the individual to want to grab it with both hands... I get the feeling Ronaldo was always going to the top whichever path he took from Portugal at 18, just from the stories you hear of his single mindedness to be the best... I think most people who have played with him all say he’s the most dedicated player they ever saw... People think it’s easy to make it to the top, but it’s not... and really, only a very small percentage of boys even make it to the pro game to begin with, let alone then having the drive to be elite...

Tom 4444 did you not read what I said? I said he had issues in the background regarding his private life... 😐🙄 I also said the club might have done something more to take control of his affairs to guide him through, but ultimately that has to come from the player himself as he gets older... and he himself admitted he wasn’t committed... so no, I’m not a pro, but yes... I understand it...

Impossible, the next big thing should be playing at the big stages right now

Gary Neville is a good man, much, much more to him than a footballer and pundit. Her cares deeply about people, especially the less fortunate...he's a man you don't meet everyday as the old saying goes.

Well said Gary. I remember watching Joe Cole play as a kid, he'd run rings around everyone around him. Was touted as a future England captain but for me, although he had a good career. I thought he could have gone further in his career.
@mrtoad14083 жыл бұрын
Joe Cole is a strange one as although he won 3 PL titles and 3 FA Cups he wasn't actually a big part of those teams.

The irony of Jamie saying he can't make it yet van dijks career only really stared when he got his move to liverpool😬
@johnquinn41084 жыл бұрын
Hamish Munroe mate he went from Southampton to beating Ronaldo in the balondor and their being very strong shouts for him to beat Messi I'm not saying Ravel is going to be a world beater but he could definitely go further than championship footballer. Obviously one of those deluded fans that claims they always knew van dijk was quality
@johnquinn41084 жыл бұрын
Hamish Munroe ahhhhhh my bad I didn't realise I was talking to a fan of the farmers league
@johnquinn41084 жыл бұрын
Hamish Munroe my point was that ravel morrison can go on further than playing for a crap ,poor footballing championship team he could probably go and play for a Southampton or West Ham if he hits a good run of form and your right it isn't ironic that Jamie said that. Ironic was a poor choice of words I should have said it seems as though Jamie is oblivious and naive to believe that he can't. Look at vardy going from non league to a nobody I'm the prem to be a quality striker. Van dijk did play in the champions league with Southampton but karius played in the champions league and got to the final being their no.1 and he's shite. Footballers are tools in a tactical system and maybe ravels gonna get in the right system under the right manager with the right team mates around him and then this would be a different story.

I don't care where Ravel plays, be it the championship or league one/league 2. I just want him to secure a starting spot, play regularly every week, and stay injury free. It's never too late, he is still 27, have few years in him, and I'm sure regular game time will boost his confidence

@raketier4 жыл бұрын
Disappointed to hear Carra saying stuff like this. Everyone can do better and upgrad his game even at 27. He must havs known as a hard worker and less talented player.
@alexcronin19314 жыл бұрын
He’s just being honest, do you actually believe that Ravel will turn it around now, it’s done
@tomcecil46454 жыл бұрын
Alex Cronin not ravel, just in general. It’s not done even if you’re 27 years old. Look at jamie vardy, Ian Wright etc. It’s never too late if you work hard and have self belief
@scoober13764 жыл бұрын
@@tomcecil4645 Wright and Vardy both 'got it' a lot earlier than 27 tho, the work ethic they had from their early 20s in non-league football carried them to the top. By that age they were solid first-teamers at good clubs and on upward trajectories. If they'd been in the same situation as Morrison is at 27 (barely any 1st team football in years, can't even make a Championship team) they wouldn't have had time to turn things around.
@raketier4 жыл бұрын
@@alexcronin1931 I believe in every human and his will. Carra maybe is right but he is on national television and this young man ( Ravel ) is listening. It's ok to criticise but do not finish him just like that.
@jacobfield48483 жыл бұрын
Ravel is a pro footballer that is an achievement. So credit to him for that. However, this is a Man Utd story. There are 20 Ravel Morrisons in youth teams all over the country.
@ares_behindthemask88483 жыл бұрын
True, but I doubt with as much talent and ice in their veins. Ravel was a baller, very few players get Ronaldinho comparisons
@Baresi-Unico-Capitano4 жыл бұрын
What complex challenges are they referring to exactly? Complex challenge is a child growing up in temporary council houses and moving around every few months. Moving from school to school and not having stability. They're talking about a 27 year old like he's 7 for goodness sake. He's been a pro for years. He's had an income wherever he's played and realistically would've been and continue to be able to call on relevant services to aid with such apparent complexities. To me, it just sounds like hollow excuses. Just like balotelli. At one stage or another, you just have to grow up. The issue is clearly the lack of drive and focus.
