Gary's absolutely right. It's not that fullbacks cant defend anymore or that they re all ex-wingers and all that.. a lot of the development in both the style and the rules of the game has favoured the attacking wide players over the years and the demand for fullbacks to provide the width going forward - mostly on their own - because of inverted wingers is just too much pressure and responsibility to put on a player.. its a catch-22 where you both need experience but at the same time you need ridiculous pace and stamina to be able to be a fullback and then if you have all that but dont have pinpoint delivery or ability to beat people 1v1 then.. you re not the complete package. that's why so few players reach the top level as fullbacks these days and thats why when they do we appreciate them so much but even when they do they dont tend to stay there for long because its by far the hardest position in modern football.

Carragher you couldn't be more wrong! First we love both Salah and Mane and LFC is all about team work, and that is actually what made the team perform brilliantly this season both in PL and UEFA. Salah, while having a slow season and suffering from a prolonged goal drought, has managed AGAIN to be PL top scorer! Salah has scored many decisive and last minute goals that were CRITICAL in pushing LFC in both PL and UEFA (Man United, Man City, Southampton, Napoli, etc.. ). The quality of his goals is also top notch! That is only mentioning the technical part and not even mentioning the great humble and kind personality everybody everywhere has known him for! Mane is a very good player too and this season he is looking better. Explosively penetrating team defenses and scoring many headers. But he lacks that 'Magical Touch' that only Salah has in front of the goal. Also many of Mane's goals, including the important 'first' goals as you mentioned were a result of a good assist from no one but Salah. LFC needs both players and it will always be team work that pushes them into the lead, but you couldn't be more wrong and your analysis is BOGUS. This is not the time to ignite rivalry between team mates!

There’s simply things that stats don’t show that Mane does better than Salah. Mane is imo more dangerous than Salah. Liverpool playing down the left side looks just much more dangerous. Salah gives up the ball incredibly easy. He hasn’t really shown up in big games, until recently. I do think Salah is picking it back up. Mane really kept us in the race though. Also Mane’s work rate is pretty incredible. If you just go by stats... we all make fun of Lukaku and say how he can’t finish he lunch. This year he’s not even noticed... but he still has the same amount of goals as Firmino. Last year he had more goals and the same amount of assists. I’m pretty sure most would agree that Firmino is better though.

You should look at where attackers want to play. They don't want to play in the middle, they want to play in the space out wide. To add to the changing role of wide forwards, full back is now, the most important and the most difficult (both physically and tactically) role on the pitch. I very much doubt that either of these guys could have made it as full backs in today's game, both would almost certainly ended up as CBs (Carragher played most of his time as a fill in for others as is.)

That was a one-off. Suarez was absolutely unreal that year, that might just be the best season-long performance I've ever seen in the PL. 31 games, 31 goals, 13 assists. With a player like that you can't not challenge for the title. I think the reason behind mane's goals is that other defenders or players focus on salah just salah ignoring mane or firmino that's why he is scoring even more goals yes im with you that mane helped the team alot espically last year in cl final but he couldn't make much difference and the team lost it. Also that people keep talking that he is having abad season while agüero, mane,streling,hazard,aubamyang having their best season ever salah has the exact number of goals and u say he is having abad season !!!! If u see in each game he is always being followed by 3 players at least so this is the reason behind mane's goals

Based on what? cuz numbers suggest other wise. It took Salah 1 1/2 season to score 51 premier league goals but it took Mane 2 1/2 seasons to score the same amount of goals. Salah has more assist than Mane since 17/18 season. so what exactly are you talking about when you say Mane is better than Salah? Dribbling? Keep in mind Salah draws double coverage from the opposing team majority of the time and that frees up Mane and Firmino

Ciyalka Xafada he is just a better all round footballer, link up play, defensive work, positioning. He always turns up in big games. When salah doesn’t score or assist he’s awful. However when mane doesn’t score or assist he still creates and has a good 7/10 most games.

I know the question was either Mane or Salah, but both of them compliment each other really well, especially this season. Let us not forget that Salah is also someone who can provide assists and Mane someone who runs up and down the wing and involving himself in the midfield. I think that if either one of them is going to leave the club that the club will suffer.
