Spot on review, Mike. I enjoy what's in the KS edition well enough, but the first thing I want to see in expansions is more cards for the current factions rather than new factions. I want to be able to use what I already have in a broader way and dive more into the deck construction, which is currently very limited.

Are there any more factions in the original skytear game? I’ve only played that one a bit, so I’m not sure, but I’m kinda hopeful that these 4 are it 😅

Such an fun and quick game. So many great puzzly decisions in a short amount of time. Probably my most played game so far this year.

Great review Mike, and wow to hear it's that good. I'd honestly glossed right over this one while it was on kickstarter but that sounds really fun, and since I only play solo or with my wife, games tightly designed for 1-2 players are great for us. Will keep an eye on it... thanks as always!

I've only played this game once but I had a good time indeed! I have to agree with the weirdness that things aren't "rated" in terms of difficulty. Sometimes I feel like it is a trend in this industry, as few of the games I've played do this? One specific point for me for this game is that the price point feels pretty high with regards to the contents. Now, it's not been a problem for me because I'm playing a friend's copy :) but it'd have slowed my purchase decision otherwise. Here's hoping a lot more people get to know this little gem and it gets widespread with tons more contents!

Hmmm, yeah, I hadn’t looked at the sticker price but it’s maybe a bit high. But the discounted prices I’m seeing online (at least in the US) are pretty good

Been really enjoying this game and I’ve barely scratched the surface. With the KS expansion content, the modularity, variability, and replay ability is high. Though not completely similar, it has me thinking about selling off Radlands (using your solo variant, of course), another lane battler. For exclusive solo play, I think I’d always reach for Skytear Horde as it was designed for solo from the get-go. Sucks because I love the art, theme, and component quality of Radlands :(

Hi Mike, thanks as always for your reviews, personally my most trusted review source. How is the card quality? I read many concerns and comments about the quality and stock of the cards. The majority of the complaints were that the cards are thin and flimsy. Was that your experience?

They didn’t seem especially good or bad to me. I certainly wouldn’t describe them as flimsy. That said, they sent me the deluxe version with sleeves, so I sleeved them pretty quickly. So maybe I would have had more trouble with the cards if that wasn’t the case? Hard to say…

I've played it competitive a few times, but not solo yet. Peter from the streaming channel owns a bunch though, so I should borrow it and fix that :)

Mike, you and Colin are my favorite KZbinrs about board games… but… I have just bought Mage Knight Ultimate Edition and I am loving it while I am still learning the base game… now I see you showing this that is the type of game I like and That I found in Italian at quite low price, and now I feel forced to buy it!! I already ordered the only one expansion available in Italian (it came all in one in Kickstarter version I think, I didn’t know it is an Italian project, it makes me happy). I like them both a lot. Ashes is more strategic (and of course has more competitive options), but Horde is the purer solo/co-op experience for me.

I’ll probably never do a full review, since the solo mode is a minor add-on to the competitive game. But I plan to do a playthrough in the next month or so, because I do love the gameplay :)

Are you looking at the all-in deluxe price, because I agree that’s high. But I think the non-deluxe costs are reasonable, and the cheapest game of this type. The closest game I’ve played is Ashes Reborn with the new Red Rains solo/coop expansion (we covered that one too), but I think that gets a bit pricier

Would you say this is a good replacement for Set A Watch if I think Set A Watch always overstays it’s welcome by about 30-45mins?

I think they are very different games, but this one is certainly better than set a watch in terms of gameplay time (Though to be fair the next set a watch expansion has a shortened game mode)

I think they did a great job improving it since the prototype. Like I said in the review there are some elements that certain gamers won’t enjoy, but for me it’s great. I want more releases 😅

I'm a solo player only so this game really interest me, but it's a shame you didn't touch the competitive (one playing as the horde) aspect of the game I heard pretty good things about it.

Saying this game is "quick" is SO misleading. Not a lot to read but I've read an seen enough to be firmly convince there's a LOT of pause-game moments in this because of... timing nuances, figuring out how-cards-work... constantly. This might be "quick" after you've mastered EVERY CARD. For a uninitiated, this is not quick.

This hasn't been my experience or the experience of anyone I've played the game with. The rules seem clear and it's a pretty straightforward game. But again, that's just my experience. Sorry if it hasn't gone as smoothly for you!
