Nikolaj was born to play Jaime Lannister. Somehow, he pulls it off, even though he isn't as handsome as the JL in the books is "supposed to be", but that's what makes it all the more remarkable, He has an unusual, great charisma and his acting is perfect. Even more than that, though, I respect him because he's actually READING the books as they film each season. I don't think many of the other main characters are doing that aside from Kit Harington - but then whatdya expect, he's a great lad as well.

Jaime went from the character I hate the most after Joffrey to one of my favorites by season 4. His character seems to have changed a lot since he threw Bran out of the window. Being away from Cersei and spending more time with Brienne probably helped.

The kicker was Season 7 where he FINALLY realized that Cersei doesn't love him. In the books, it's more apparent (from her point of view) that she just sees Jaime as a male version of herself, and in some ways lives vicariously through his actions because she feels robbed of opportunities for power and respect being a woman in Westeros. It's also why she's so spiteful towards Brianne - Brianne is a woman that was born with strength and integrity, and is not beautiful, and yet has managed to do well for herself regardless. To Cersei, it's as if Brianne is cheating, somehow, because she's a woman that didn't need beauty to earn respect. Cersei's biggest flaw is that she is tremendously narcissistic. If you deconstruct what's described about her in the books, Cersei's act of incest with Jaime is, to her, almost like a form of masturbation, and the children from that union are tiny extensions of herself.

I did assume that his changing accent is likely due to him originally being from Denmark so therefore when he first learnt English (which I assume was a long time ago because he's extremely fluent now) he heard it from a number of different sources and accents.
