Hey Dylan, great video. Just one thing, I would love to mention, next time you should remove the protector cap, from them 1/10 focuser side. (its like the feather touch focuser side). I see at least one other has done the same as me. I used my old C925 with an OAG to guide a DSLR with a 24mm lens piggybacked underneath it on the dovetail. Then I bought the Evolux's precursor (Evostar 72) For a cheap toe in the water of short FL imaging (The Evolux looks better corrected than the Evostar going by your image) before spending some real money on a nice 80mm triplet, and a 10"F4 Newt to go with it. You can never have too many scopes. The Evostar spent some time doing guidescope duties too, before I sold it.

I started doing EAA about 1 year ago when I bought my Celestron 1100 Edge HD, Hyperstar V4, and ASI533MC Pro. On occasion, going back to full-on astrophotography is fun, but being able to see and photograph 15 or 20 targets in an evening is really nice. It's also a big hit at star parties, where I hook my ASIAir Pro and iPad to a 27" television monitor on the tailgate of my pickup truck. I get large crowds of people.

Have the same. The flattener is so annoying - it rocks just a bit in the drawtube with all the weight of the camera off the back, so I end up really tightening those thumbscrews down. I keep meaning to find someone with a lathe to create me a double-threaded ring that would thread onto the back of the 72ED drawtube and onto which the flattener would be threaded.

Welcome to 20th century AP as we were piggybacking ST80s in the 1990s dual imaging wide-narrow field simultaneously on our LX200s. But seriously, with modern broadcast EAA it really makes sense to have a wide-field version regardless of target. I'm working on something a little different for planetary with my 16" LX200 using a binoviewer to have one side show the best view of Jupiter while the other can show the moons too. This would also be ideal for lunar viewing at multiple perspectives. Something to think about!

Live stacking is definitely the way of the future. We did something like this w/ one of the scopes at our observatory for public nights last summer: Hook a color camera up to a large screen and zoom around the sky taking/stacking color exposures. We were doing it due to covid b/c no one could go into the obs itself and use eyepieces, but it worked so well it'll likely become the norm even if life ever goes back to normal.

After battling with collimation and mirror alignment woes for the last month with my 8" f/4 newt, I've certainly started having... erroneous thoughts... Of maybe purchasing a refractor. Wider FOV, no collimation woes, no diffraction spike alignment issues... Perfect for widefield nebulae and clusters. They certainly have merit, especially for the newer astrophotographers. Cheaper, and much lighter and easier to guide too.

Just lotts of HDs ... but I delete a lot of calibration data to save space. Just keep stacks and FITs. Usually a drive a year.

Hi Dylan, can you tell me how to construct a Dark Libary. The problem isn't constructing them with various exposure lengths, my problem is exposures vs gain settings. If I recreate a dark from for every filter with every exposure and then every single gain setting, I won't have enough time im my life to enjoy the hobby. There has to be a better way. How do you construct your dark libary?

Thanks for the video... I've been recently getting back into my astronomy again (a small child plays havoc with nighttimes!). We attended StarStuff I - which was absolutely fantastic, do you think you'll ever do another StarStuff again (once everything is "normal" again)

A flexible setup! To me, it would be perfectly rational to guide at extreme focal lengths for a primary wider field refractor. Should be very precise! I do something similar, My esprit 100 is reduced to f3.6 and is just shy of my evoguide 50 ED fl which i also shoot through sometimes.

I know this might sound like a dumb question...but...did you put a 2" filter in your setup? I have a 72ED with field flattener and have had to jerry-rig the setup in order to include a 2" filter. Feel like I must be doing it wrong because it seems incredibly complicated otherwise.

Great video. Question for you: I have an Edge 11 in a nexdome and am planning to piggyback a 500mm scope as well. Did you have any problems with both working at the same time through the opening? I was going to experiment with it, but seeing as you at least test drove was curious how it went setting the dome parameters. Thanks!!
@DylanODonnell
@DylanODonnell 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it's a pain in the ass to be honest. Adjusting the Dome Offset helps a little and you can force the dome to the right place.. but it gradually rotates out of sync because the top OTA is riding so high. SGPs dome geometry sucks (I assume) but it's the better one so far. If push comes to shove I'll turn slaving off and manually nudge it to keep things ticking along. Hope to solve properly eventually.
@necrotaur
@necrotaur 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I feel like straight up and down it lines up, but once it rotates, it's going to have a tight tolerance. I was hoping to image both at the same time, like a nice widefield shot with a close-up of some interesting feature. I suppose time will tell. NINA devs say their dome parameters are superior to ASCOM device hub. Guess it'll be time to try it out soon
