Hey @TweetFPV, thanks for this tear down video. I was devastated that my goggles literally started malfunctioning 3 days after the warranty ran out... I just repaired my DOA Cobra X with a new screen. It suffered from way overblown blue and orange., half the screen had a green tint. The goggle also got hot with a sort of burnin in the picture. To repair it I went for the quickest solution and just purchased a new screen from Skyzone. I just plugged it in and the goggle works 100%. A few repair tips: Remember to remove the protection screen on the new lcd. I also mounted the goggle together with plastic gloves to avoid fingerprints on the optics. I added some CA glue on the receiver socket/pcb for added support. I hope this info helps someone else having the same symptoms. It's also possible to by the main board from Skyzone which is super nice. In the future I whish thay add those parts to their web store for easy purchasing. I totally support repairable products!

10:24 Have saved me so much time, diagnosing my problem with receiver, two connector legs have become disattached in my cobras. It caused problem with switching channels and modes (div to mix). It just needed resoldering.

Thank you very much for this movie. I had problems with the receiver. I corrected (resoldered) the pins where the socket is. Now everything works as it should. You were right, it will be the first thing that breaks down :D

Thanks for the vid. I have a CobraSD. This is the only one model where Skyzone used white color faceplate, which is very annoying. For solution, they send me an empty CobraX goggles, which is black and now I know how to replace it. Kinda simple, I need to remove 6 screws only and that's it.

Very helpful video, thank you! I just upgraded my V1 goggles to V2 with the kit from AtomRC. Hopefully I get proper battery usage out of the 16850 cells now. Edit: excellent results. 3100 mAh cell now gives me about 45 minutes usage of the goggles instead of 14 minutes.

Nice vid, that attachment point for the module definitely needs some added support. As it is, those headers are usually a bit flimsy on their own. I built the race timer you had some videos on awhile back and made everything modular like you suggested. I 3d printed some supports and used double sided tape to help secure everything. For the fan, if you just provide the stats and dimensions, it should allow people to find them in the future

Thanks for the video. My new cobra s arrived and did not power on. I disassembled it and reconnected ribbon cables, which solved the issue. It's a shame there is no any QA in skyzone after production to catch early such a problem.

They may have been qaed at the factory. I've seen ribbon cabled disconnect after shipping. That can be a very rough ride!

I think i have the same problem. I am a beginer at this hobby, so i have only 18650 lion battery, and when i try to turn on the googles with the 18650, nothing is happening... it happend to you to?

Ok, I have actually decided to go for a rturn of the Cobra X and ordered the Cobra X V2, the reason for it is that my goggles had also isues with hdmi. I received the V2 and it is amazing, everything seems to work like a charm.

now i wonder if you drilled maybe 2 small holes in the front plate maybe one on each side if the internal fan would actually pull heat out the face area ? to actually reduce fogging . because the internal fan does nothing to remove fog between your face and the lens . i believe its only there to cool the electronics .

I am unsure but based on what I remember from the disassembly I'd say you'll have to open up the goggles.

Mine actually had almost no solder on the video receiver header. I set them down one day and lost all video. Soldered it back up last night and fixed the issue. While I had them open I fixed a few other solder points that just barely had enough for contact

Hi! Thank you for this video! Based on your tear down, do you think that it is possible in any way to get audio out from these googles? Perhaps something like a direct output from SteadyView receiver? Is sound even supported by this RX?

🤔 Good question. I dont see why not. You probably won't get dvr audio. But to say a headphone seams very likely. The pinout for these modules is standardized. You could always just solder in a mono 3.5mm jack from the audio and ground pins and see what you get.

Great Video, Thanks Tweet, I bought a set recently that worked for 10minutes while trying it out for the first time and when I tried them the next day as I went flying, the display was all messed up. Bright colours, logos and the OSD bleeds its colour horizontally and vertically with severe image burn-in. Do you perhaps know what part would cause this issue? I am in communication with Skyzone and we have arranged that they would send me the parts but I don't know if it is the display or the mainboard.

@@ugellin No, they never saw direct sunlight, I was flying a whoop in a school hall and they were packed in a bag. I returned the Goggles to SkyZone and they replaced them and told me it was a defective display.

I just received my google and I have the same issue from the get go! Dont they test these before shipping them out?? I bought it from another country so I just lost a ton of money either way because of shipping and customs expenses. As far as I know a broken lcd can't cause these kind of problems so I'm pretty sure its the mainboard which is defective. Also the voltage booster for the 18650 battery only works above 3.8V so that's insane. I am an engineer myself and a mistake like that is just dumb.

The cobra are a good set of box goggles. But with that said I really don't like them or really any box goggles. I'd say if you like the cobra goggles and like box goggles and want a better dvr it's probably worth it. If you are in the market for a different style of goggles like the dhzeros or dji then save your money and skip the dvr upgrade.

Make sure your card is 32 gb or smaller. And try formatting the card in the goggles

Mine power on, but wont charge the battery. I don't believe it's a batter thing as swapped those out, plus, I don't get a red light when powering it from the USB nor the barrel connector.. Not deal killer, but like the idea of having the backup 18650 in case the external battery fails or more likely comes unplugged. Think the power board will address it?

After about 5 hours on the newly working goggles, I had the exact problem you described where the module doesn't get a good connection because of the solder joints.

I have to ask, what if you remove the front only? does it allow you to see through while piloting? The new EU rules about keeping eye contact with the model while flying and FPV rules, make it necessary to have see-through FPV displays (like the Epson Moverio). This totally looks like it's capable of doing so. (maybe adding a controllable opacity LCD window for controlling the contrast).

The front of the goggles is where the mirror is which reflects the image from the top mounted screen to your eyes. If you removed that they'd essentially become really shitty binoculars lol.

Easy way would be to see what your dvr bit rate and resolution is.

Now I'm wondering if it may just be the module connections on the main board. Still waiting to hear back from SKYZONE support what they can do but feel like a tear down might be in order... Have you heard of this issue? or do you think it could be power board related?

Haven't heard of that. Sounds more like a lcd driver issue than a power issue but it could be possible.

I literally just had this problem today. V1 goggles were working fine yesterday. Went to go fly and nothing but black static. Even the rssi for both antennas are at zero, so I’m suspecting the module connections need to be fixed.

@@TweetFPV Cool, I just go the V1 last week. Would you advise to upgrade it to V2 or wait until after I face some issues with power board and so on ? I haven t tested these with my drone yet. But I can see that when connnecting to macbook via usb cable the goggles turn off immediately after powering on. I had to connect these to a Windows laptop to proceed with the software update. I also realised that the same behavior (goggles turn off immediately after powering on) happens when using an iphone charger. With a samsung phone charger the goggles work as expected. Will check with lipo and battery later on. I can update after testing.

The better dvr is nice but certainly not necessary. If your goggle power is wokring fine I'd stick with the v1 but I have heard issues of very low run time on some of the v1 boards. But hose honestly sound like a defect more than an outdated design.

@@TweetFPV Low runtime was present in 5 goggles i tested... my solution was to design 21700 holder that fit in place of the original 18650. With much more capacity it ran out in ~40min. Which is usable. But from what i've heard the V2 increases battery life and there's a proper low battery warning rather than just browning out few seconds after warning. Anyway thanks for the video. I'm doing the replacement today.
