Whew! I feel your jetlag here. It's even more fun when you fly from Seattle to Amsterdam. You quite literally lose 9 hours in 9 hours. Some fun facts. JFK opened up in 1948 and was known as The New York International Airport or Idlewild. When JFK was killed, they immediately renamed it after him. But when you watch the episode of I Love Lucy where she misses the cruise ship from NY over to Europe, she had to go to Idlewild to catch a helicopter which lowered her on a cable down onto the top deck of the ship. They specifically used the name Idlewild for the airport. Great views of Jamaica Bay. Good views of the islands and of Broad Channel. Good view of the A Train line going across the bay and also on the Rockaway Peninsula. That whole area is part of the New York Gateways National Recreational Area which was part of the greenbelting of New York and also acted as a wildlife sanctuary. Great views of the Rockaway Peninsula. Many people don't think that the City of NY has actual ocean beaches, but it does. It has 10 miles of it - right on the open Atlantic Ocean. Good views of Long Island. Way back when, Long Island was part of the US mainland where Connecticut is, but the Ice Age glaciers tore it away from the coast to where it is now. Long Island is geographically and physically the longest island in the 48 stares, but because of a big dispute between the US and Canada on fishing territorial rights in 1985, the court settled the case by legally declaring Long Island not an island. So... legally, Whidbey Island in Washington State is the longest island in the Continental US, but physically, it's the second after Long Island. Long Island has about 100 miles of shoreline along the open Atlantic Ocean and it had an equal amount of shoreline on the Sound side as well. Given that you did this flight in mid-May, I'm surprised that you didn't see any light off to the north when it got dark, Guess you didn''t go north enough. If you had done something like Seattle to Copenhagen (which I've done), you would've seen a lot of light in the sky to the north during the night. I've never been to Frankfurt or even Germany for that matter. Will have to go there someday, especially considering that I have some German ancestry on my father's side. Anyhow, I need to rest up from the jetlag from watching this video. :)
@sla312 жыл бұрын
I felt this jet lag too. Especially since I thought it would be a great idea to book two other flights the day I arrived. So instead of crashing at a hotel, I continued flying for another 10 hours. Well, I was only flying for like 3 hours, but with layovers and such, it was another 10 hours before I ended up at a hotel. Remind me not to do that again haha. As always, that's some excellent information for everyone viewing this video! Thanks man!
@scottbridge93912 жыл бұрын
@@sla31 When I did my trip to Australia back in 2001, I REALLY put myself through the ringer in terms of jetlag. That country has 4 times zones and part of it observes DST and part of it does not. When you fly around Australia, you go thru a lot of time zone changes.

@sla31 Жыл бұрын
I've been toying around with the idea of creating a massive takeoff or landing compilation that is like 8 hours long. Each takeoff/landing would be around 5 minutes. This is was sparked by viewers like yourself commenting the they love to watch my videos while you study or during work. That they don't take up a lot of "mental space" but they can look up every once in awhile and they're in a new place with new scenery. So, theoretically if I created some massive compilation, you'd really be in a new place with new scenery every time. You could theoretically make them at varying lengths. Anywhere from 1 hour all the way to 8, 10, or 12 hours. I'm curious though. As someone who says it was great for studying, do you think the scenery change every 5 minutes would be too distracting?
@shreyas7336 Жыл бұрын
@@sla31 I am sure that it varies from person to person, but in general, I would say that the value of these videos is the constant background noise for focus. A compilation would be a great idea for a video to watch, but the changing engine sound might be distracting. As I said, it tends to vary, but in general, it would be a great video idea! Edit: As I normally just listen to the videos in the background, a change in scenery would not affect me that much though, so that's something to consider. And plus, a takeoff compilation would be really cool to watch - you can't find many good ones online.
