Hi Traveler. Well, they knew you were flying today, so they rolled out a special airplane from the hanger for you !! Aw, the sticker on the fuselage was hidden !! It's very cool flying at night and getting to cross the transition between night and morning. Welcome to the land of Fire an Ice. Where Iceland is Green and Greenland is Ice !!
@sla312 жыл бұрын
I never know what to do when the sticker is hidden haha! And almost a full transition from night to morning. As is often the case. The flight attendants turned on the interior cabin lights right before dawn. Which, of course, means you suddenly can't see anything outside because of the interior reflection on the window. So, I had to cut out the first bit of dawn until the lights were turned back off. Thanks for watching my friend!

I am forever amazed by your video quality. To say it's the nearest thing to being on these flights without actually being there is no overstatement. The detail of everything being passed upon take off is one of those details. The other, however, just barely noticeable, at 36:11, just as the plane has leveled, you see the faintest colors of remaining day to the west. By 38:11, you can squint and just barely see a hint of remaining blue but that day had all but officially ended completely as according to light & dark.

I haven't had too many night flights recently, but I can confidently say I've always enjoyed the breathtaking night lights of cities. Filming part though? Not so much... Videos being too dark on past iPhones, reflections from the cabin, etc -- and I've always gotten irritated and ended up avoiding night flights when possible. I recall your community post from not too long ago about finding a solution to this challenge, and I must say this is indeed impressive. The fact that it's a 767 makes it even better. What changes did you have to make to get such nice results, if you don't mind?

I see this is an old comment but I'm guessing he covers the window with something, so that reflections from the cabin don't appear in the window. He could also be using a CPL filter

Well, I haven't ever made a video about it, but I have posted stuff about my equipment on Instagram and there community tab before. As far as my setup goes, it's pretty simple. I use iPhones to film. I currently travel with one 1TB iPhone 13 Pro, and two 512GB iPhone 12 Pros. I then hold the camera by hand to film. Sometimes the best results are achieved by the simplest means.

Yep, you can't beat New York when it some to spectacular nighttime city views. It used to be that Manhattan was the blazing bright spot in NY. But today, your night flight shows the truth: the other boroughs and New Jersey are a lot brighter than Manhattan! I've watched other night flights of NY and you see the same thing. Now, I need to rest up from the jetlag from losing 4 hours of time.

@sla314 ай бұрын
What are you talking about? There’s roughly 6 minutes of the entire 5 hour flight cut out and that’s for when I was adjusting the camera, settings, or talking to the crew. This is the entire flight and there’s nowhere near an hour cut out.
@madzuploader24074 ай бұрын
@@sla31 i apologise if im wrong but at 4:38:25 the sky seems to suddenly get noticeably brighter but if that is just 6 minutes cut than i am sorry. I actually really like your content but sudden cuts are a pet peeve of mine.
@sla314 ай бұрын
@@madzuploader2407filming the transition from full dark to dawn is the hardest things to film. The camera often loses focus as the lighting starts to change and sometimes it can be a near impossible to get it re-focused quickly because of the dim lighting. It gets confused as to what the lighting is actually doing 😂. Also, keep in mind, when flying east the sun effectively moves twice as fast. The sun’s horizon moves across the earth at roughly 700mph. You’re then flying the opposite direction at 600mph. So the lighting changes extremely fast when flying east. The exact opposite happens when flying west and everything lasts twice as long. Anyway, the point is that when flying east lighting changes incredibly fast as the sun is effectively moving at 1,400mph across the surface. In this situation the camera lost focus as dawn was starting. Then it wouldn’t re-focus for roughly 3-4 minutes. When you see the cut is when I was finally able to get it focused again. This flight was 5h 11m and the video is 5h 3m long. I always do my best to include every second of every flight, but sometimes small things have to get cut for various reasons. There’s still never more than a few minutes max cut from any full flight I post.
@sla314 ай бұрын
I sear I replied to this last week, but I must've never actually hit the reply button haha. So there's two things to consider here. First, that filming the transition from total dark to dawn is the hardest thing to film. The camera often loses focus in the extremely soft light that accompanies dawn. Which is what happened here. The camera lost focus and for roughly 6 minutes it wouldn't re-focus because it couldn't figure out the light situation. On top of that, the dark to morning light happens twice as fast when traveling east. If you are stationary in one spot, the Earth rotating causes the sun's horizon to move over the surface at roughly 700mph. But when you're traveling east in an aircraft at 600mph, that horizon now overtakes you at 1,300mph because you are moving 600mph in the opposite direction. So the transition from night to day already happens WAY faster when traveling east. The exact opposite happens when traveling west. You gain WAY more daylight because you're effectively losing the sun at only around 100mph. So here you had the camera lose the ability to function properly for 6 minutes, and that's what's missing. The lighting just changes really fast when traveling east.
