It's so surreal hearing Bridgar talk about what it would take to make Custodes "viable" and Brian talking about match-up wise he has no hope of winning as if they aren't one of the most-represented armies in GTs right now with a healthy presence in top fours. They're not as good as the top tier Space Marine chapters, but unviable? Come on lol.
@leahcim22114 жыл бұрын
Bridgar has never said they are unviable, its more a meme now that he wants more rules for them (especially permanent transhuman). Also Brian is specifically saying that in this particular patch up and with his un-optimized list he has little chance which I agree. Luckily Adrian made quite a mistake T1 and gave Brian the chance otherwise it likely would have been very different.
@nemebro65014 жыл бұрын
@@leahcim2211 My man, Bridgar literally said, in this very video, that they need adjustments to be viable. His words, not mine. He and Brian have also said on several occasions the Ares is nonviable despite it having decent performance in GTs. Bridgar thinks that Eradicators just blast it away when, with the Shadowkeeper strat, 18 Eradicators on average will not destroy it if they are all in melta range. Custodes are certainly being underrated lol. Which isn't to say that there aren't a lot of feelsbad moments with the army. I myself super chatted this game about how d3 damage melee feels bad when you roll a 1 against Marines or whatever. I definitely think some quality of life adjustments are needed and would prefer they be brought up to the level of Marines, but I want that of every army. Custodes just happen to be starting off higher than most.

I’ve mained nids since the start of 8th and I just find custodes so forgiving to play in comparison, it’s actually relaxing. The amount of times I’ve made stupid mistakes that would hands down cost me the game with pretty much any army and just spiked a load of invulns is stupid.
@nemebro65014 жыл бұрын

sorry Adrian, I have to root for Brian this time since I want chaos to lose. spoilers for game results I have mixed feelings about the game; the Slaanesh demons took a pounding, but Adrian had absolutely horrendous luck on quite a few rolls as well as that huge mistake in turn one where he lost several important characters because of thinking they had rules they didn't and Brian got to continually bully Adrian again. Stuff like that and Brian being mean, kicking Adrian while he's down, and sometimes actively trying to screw over his opponents by giving them bad advice that they shouldn't follow is why I usually root against him Typos in some of the objective cards at 14:15 Assassinate has "destoryed" instead of "destroyed" Abhor the witch has "Psyker unity" instead of "unit"

Not entirely true, he played a non meta Custodes List imo - no Terminator Bomb or Shield Spamming Army... also if you dont hit your very low saverolls you are essentially useless because you cant afford loosing many units... Space Marines are more balanced (well they are overpowered tbh) if you look at the ratio of Unit Count and Saverolls... Please no move shoot move at least in large scale. That\s very nonfun game element making units ridiculously extreme to face. GW has yet to have had that work ever. Every time GW has introduced such army it has ended up being busted. It just doesn't work on IGOUGO system.
@sirbobulous4 жыл бұрын
They managed to make it work in Epic: Armageddon. Eldar (Craftworld and Dark) get to do it. But that is both smaller scale and, critically, alternating activations. Plus in general shooting is not a game winning strategy, rather it's a set-up or support element.
@lonedonkey1014 жыл бұрын
@@sirbobulous Epic Armageddon actually had some really good elements to it. I REALLY wish they would try alternating activations for 40k, it is far benter game design. Sadly they never will, so I am working on my own rules mod to use with friends.
@sirbobulous4 жыл бұрын
@@lonedonkey101 Alternating Activations has some issues, especially around 'stalling' and 'activation advantage' but even with those issues (that you can design around anyway) it's much better than IGOUGO of 40k (or AoS).
@lonedonkey1014 жыл бұрын
@@sirbobulous Not sure what you mean by stalling, but activation advantage I find to be very interesting. I would call it less an issue and more a feature, as if used correctly it can open up design space. In particular, I find it appropriate that an elite but less numerous army will be better at alpha strikes and more decisive at seizing objectives, but will be vulnerable to being overwhelmed and unable to respond effectively if outnumbered too badly. But they should certainly try it for 40k, I have never heard a good argument against it and anything that reduces miserable games where your opponent rolls hot on turn 1 and you may as well pack up before even getting to play is good.
@sirbobulous4 жыл бұрын
@@lonedonkey101 Stalling is where one player has enough 'chaff' or 'low risk' activations that they can continually do very little of risk or engagement (put planes on CAP, move a few scouts forward, fire an artillery barrage, etc.) while waiting for their opponent to be forced to use their important activations in a way that prevents them being useful. On the one hand it's clever play to use it and work around it. But it can, in cases of large activation disparity or certain styles of list design (see: Steel Legion) lead to situations where taking cool units or upgrades is worse overall than taking a few more cheap boring units to avoid getting forced to waste important activations. E.g.: do I take that hellhound upgrade for my Mechanised Infantry company (+3 hellhound tanks) for 100pts or do I take another separate formation of sentinels (4 sentinels, another activation) for 100pts? The hellhounds are way more powerful, make the mech inf. even better at what they already want to do and are a cool different unit to add. The Sentinels give me another chaff activation...that extra activation can be more important than the cool unit.
