Really wonderful tutorials, easily understandable. Your personality really comes through. Some instructors are so lifeless, they make you want to take a nap. Not yours!

I enjoyed your presentation. I've been throwing pottery for about 40 years. I now am working with slaps. I have a problem with the clay cracking and warping. Very frustrating. Would know what I am doing wrong?
@jshatzallen
@jshatzallen 5 жыл бұрын
your problems could be many, too much to discuss in a reply here. most impt, try not to handle your slab too much, flip with boards instead of by hand. dry extremely slowly. i have many questions to ask that could let me know of your problems, but again, too much for a video reply. i suggest you purchase my full video on slabs and learn proper methods of dealing with slabs from pressing out to more importantly, working with the slab after the slab machine. if rolling by hand, you need to make sure your slabs are totally even throughout, try using the slab machine. www.jayneshatzpottery.com/VIDEOS.html

Please answer me , how to reach this consistency of the clay . Thank You
@jshatzallen
@jshatzallen 7 жыл бұрын
hi, thanks for writing. consistency of clay happens in your studio environment. i like to have my clay made on the soft side, so that i can control it for all purposes- wheel throwing, slab extruder, etc. if its winter and you have the heat in your studio,leaving clay out will firm up quickly. if it is summer and air conditioner is on, same things will happen.fans going in your studio will dry out clay quickly. i use these circumstances to dry my clay. when i work with slabs, i need to have the clay be firm if i am building up the piece vertically, with sides, firm so they dont slump, so i let the slabs lay out near a fan or a dehumidifier to firm them up. if i need the clay to be softer, for the wheel and the extruder, then i add water to the clay bag, and let it sit for a few hours and it will soften. play with the conditions of your studio so that your clay will be of the correct consistency you need for that particular project. hope this helps
