Coconut coil matting @6 mm thick; place on to cure concrete, great water reservoir to keep concrete saturated.

At work I've been designing lots of raft slabs on ground with edge thickening beams. Using software which models lots of springs for soil support, sometimes there is a fairly large magnitude of bending moments in the slab, and more so in the thickening beams, but I often wonder just how realistic these are

What if you have a something like a fat clay subgrade below the base? Where can it drain to? And if the location is in a place that gets lots of freeze thaw cycles, what will happen to an open graded base if it is undrained and freezes?

We have this awful expansive clay soil and our existing driveway is cracked and has shifted vertically several inches in many locations.

Is there a reason for separation between soil and aggregate, (crushed rock/concrete) with a fabric? Also, how does foam under a slab work? Is clearly very uniform, but I would appreciate a video concerning both foam board as well as spray foam under a slab. Good/bad/why??? Thanks Tyler

Thanks for the video, I learned a lot. I hope you don’t mind, but I have some specific questions that I can’t find answers to. This refers to soil with a heavy clay content and a attached garage driveway slab with a slope that I think is approximately 12%. Is the drainage in the area beside a slab important? It seems like common sense that water infiltration under the slab can affect any voids, and that this would reduce the stiffness and stability of the slab. Can you confirm this? What effect does undermining a slab have, and what needs to be done to repair the damages? Does freezing temperatures and frozen ground during excavation next to, or underneath a slab increase or decrease the effects on the slab? Would using large amounts of water to thaw the ground before excavating beside and underneath a slab cause more or less damage? Any answers would be greatly appreciated 🙏

I'm trying to build a 200 year lifetime building with obviously concrete slabs and beams, but can't find how to apply Graphene yet: which graphene type, from which provider, which quantity, how to measure the cost of adding, the impact on the rest of the formula, etc... Edge loading...Wouldn't a designer use something like monolithic slab where there is a footing under the edges to carry the load (sufficiently reinforced) to account for the load around the edges?

Is the value of 'undisturbed earth' a myth? I would think that undisturbed sandstone would provide more support than undisturbed sand, but an engineer I spoke to didn't seem too interested in the composition of the soil, so long as it is undisturbed.

I'm currently on a roadway patch job in a private subdivision - they don't follow DOT - ok with me I'm just here to "document" The thing is they DO NOT want to remedy the Subgrade Soooo.. They mill off 6" and it's "pumping" as i suspected They want to put down 6" of asphalt and call it a day - i am trying my best to convince them to remove the bad subgrade first But time is money and the neighbors are extremely impatient - Yankee transplants tend to get angry in the South during summertime How long before the 6" asphalt overlay fails ?? 😂😂

This is why I’m skeptical of underslab polystyrene insulation. You inherently compromise the primary purpose of the slab but putting a soft squishy plastic pillow under your slab. If you want insulation put it on top of the slab not under it. I suspect in due course we’ll see problems with these.

If your slab is under a chemical processing plant or a internal combustion engine repair shop, certainly, the rules are different. But, if it's under a residence, it's not hard to calculate the load you're putting on the slab and buy insulation boards in the psi strength that matches the load. A single 4x8 sheet of 25 psi insulation board can support over a hundred thousand pounds of evenly distributed load. Very many slabs are larger and support less.

4 to 6" of imported subbase is rare for domestic or residential pavements, most guys wont be doing that.

Dont use Recycled Concrete aroud homes or under house slabs, this si essentially Building Waste and is down cycling. Just use a Natural stone or rock as your sub base.
