Great video, and well explained🤟I really like the fact that you get, what looks like, about 10mm extra stack height after fitting this. As a taller rider, I always find the front a little low for steep descending, so this kit kills two birds with one stone👊It's worth checking out the DMR Defy stem, as it has a really small stack height and might mean the difference between being able to use this kit or not🤩Cheers bud

I've been thinking about potential creaking with this Angleset. But when you think about the concept, it's the same principle as thread together PF bottom brackets. The conventional PF BBs just pressed in often creak. But the ones that thread together in the middle don't.

Personally if I wanted my bike to be slacker I think getting a longer fork is the best way to go. 1 degree slacker for every 20mm. Switch the 100mm fork for a 130mm fork and you will slack it out 1.5 degrees and if you don't like 130mm you could always add more air and it will be like a 100mm. The Slack-R is a great idea though I like 9point8, thanks for the detailed video as always
@jaygames1598
@jaygames1598 2 жыл бұрын
If you change fork travel, you often get the one positive with 2 negatives. You make the bb higher and the seat tube angle slacker. Most older bikes, that are good candidates for a slacker head angle, have a pretty slack seat tube to begin with. Things to consider.
@MTBfixHQ
@MTBfixHQ 2 жыл бұрын
@@jaygames1598 This is true but those are only two negatives if you see it that way, I prefer a higher BB because so many roots in my area and just push the saddle more forward on rails to make up for the slacker seat tube. Also keep in mind this Slack-R isn't giving you 1.5 degrees of slackness purely from the offset angles of the bearings, you can see it will be adding 15-20mm of length to your axle to crown measurement which is what a longer fork does anyways.... so the Slack-R will also give you a higher BB and slacker seat tube lol

@@MTBfixHQ I have over-forked a 2006 giant reign which was so fun and a 2013 norco fluid which I put back after a week or so. I like a xc/short travel bike to climb as good as it descends. As for the bb, my 2020 gt sensor was a monster truck in high and there's definitely some positives with that.

@allseasons765

increasing fork travel will decrease climbing performance and fun. speaking from experience, I added just 10mm to my travel by changing the air spring, and I can really feel it on the steeper climbs. because of the steeper seat tube angle and completely extended fork, it is veeery hard to weigh the front end and the bike wants to wheelie all the time and I can't steer properly. Can't imagine what 20mm would do, probably much worse. Whereas just slackening head angle wouldn't have these effects

Nice video! I have the same bike. I think that the headset it's the only out of date thing of the bike (angle and lockout). It would be very nice if you could measure the head angle once you have installed the kit as you do at the beginning of the video. Also it would very nice to check that the seat angle is not affected or at least measure how it is affected. The finally trick would be check if the slaker kit allows to install the across lock headset. Cheers!

I got one of this for one 2015 Epic FSR. Tight it properly has been a true pain. You make looks it far too easy. Both cups were turning as soon as I was applying some torque. Plus the more you tight it, the more the thread for the adapter is disappearing under the screw thread and it becomes very difficult to maintain the torque. But at the end, it works fine.

@@LoveMTB Once in place, it's glorious ! No regrets. It's a bit weird at the beginning when you're used to a pure Cross-country bike. I can't say i can feel degradation while climbing hills... but it's definitely better on tricky descent. My bike is aging but with the Slack-R, the geometry gets almost identical to the 2021 Epic... so for 120€, I got a 2021 Epic but with the FSR specs on it... All in all it's damn cheap and I can keep all the upgrades I made previously (actually everything except the frame :) ).

@Luckshot1761
@Luckshot1761 2 жыл бұрын
Nice Concept. Really like the idea in general. Removing Material from my frame in the headset area will never be an optiom for me though. And even if the diameter fits it does not mean it will fit your bike (e.g. cube bikes, as mentioned on their website). Also 30Nm seem to be quite a lot with such a small thread pitch. Should result in a pretty big preload. As it is right now this will void your warranty imo.

I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing
