yes mate, oh to be back in the 1970s to relive them times i so miss, and so enjoyed. Saw slade twice with my brother, both in stoke on trent , my home town, and boy what a stage show. Those classic vocals from noddy made me quiver. Im 51 now and still play sweet and slade loud. My wife and kids love them too. When bands like slade and sweet split, it is like a death to me, very sad, but we were there mate, we were there when they were at their best. nobody can take that away. Take care
@bigmagic9612 жыл бұрын
I think Slade had the edge because their classic material was all self-penned. Sweet's were by Chinni-Chap, good, but original is best. Was sad to never see the classic Sweet line-up but did go to a Slade/ Sweet/ T-rextasy night back in the 90s in Birmingham. Great night which Mick's Sweet just had the edge. I was still in mourning for Slade then but they did a great job and released Keep On Rockin, which was a superb album. Weren't we lucky to grow up in such a great musical era? Regards BM

@MrDiscorush12 жыл бұрын
yes my friend, we were lucky. Jimmy lea was responsible for a good many of slades songs. chiini-chap held sweet back for years but they started to write all their own material (all their b-sides were self penned). Their first self penned album "off the record", their last for rca. After joining polydor in 1978, they released "level headed" which was brians last as a band member. Saw them as a 3 piece in 1980 and sat with andy, steve and mick at the bar after. great memories.

TODAY IS A WEIRD DAY. I've just found out that Andy 'Thunderclap' Newman was the keyboard player in his band - NOT the guitarist I always thought he was. And now I'm finding out that this song was a brand new tune off the "Wall Of Hits' album, which I've owned - as a cassette - since '91. AND...Jim Lea sings lead vocal. I always thought it was a song from one of the American tours of the 70's. _I'm going to bed now, before I find out that I was adopted; my long hair (that I'm well proud of - as a 62 y.o. bloke) is actually a wig; and that Sgt. Peppers was a Rolling Stones album._

I'm just listening to this on my hifi, Lea's vocals sound that much like Joe Elliot I looked this song up just to check! And yes, it really does has a Def Leppard feel to it even without Lea's vocals, maybe they should have covered it on their "Yeah!" album.

I totally agree. The '90's were nothing without An Original Band without Them. Hard Rock/Heavy Metal was going under the carpet due to that Alternative crap & all hard rock bands we're playing their oldies. Hard off to Slade. Who is that Telegram Sam?? (I know). Keep a' Rockin'

Bloody fantastic end to the run of Slade hit singles. Most importantly it was a hit in the 90s giving them hits in three decades. Don't be hard on Mike Reid: he was of very good support to Slade, especially in the 80s giving them invites onto pop shows and always playing their single releases. He also played album tracks too from Kamikazee, Rogues and You Boyz. He always wanted to have a hit himself so I guess Slade did the decent thing and invited him to appear on this-just guessing though.

ta for the reply and so glad i have found another proper music lover who knew the bands fom the 1970s were just sheer class. There was so many brilliant bands around then producing great songs. This is the band the way they should have always been...a solid rockin outfit that live in concert whether playing to fifty drunks in a pub in the late seventies or an eighty thousand strong rock festival in the eighties ....the longing to write pop ballads contained the monster within..had they have just stuck to wot they were best at AND had spent two years on albums instead of six weeks..they would have been the working class Zepplin. No question...
