I can't do slant rhymes to save my life.... But, learning about them is awfully nice.
@KewRtQ4 күн бұрын
It’s approachable when you front-load the difficulty, by first choosing a statement-“What a Lovely Day”-and then going through the alphabet, to come up with phrases that are phonetically similar to your chosen statement: A) Angry crowds remain B) Bodies line the bay C) Cowards thrive these days . . . X) Xenophobes breathe hate Y) You’ll alleviate Z) Zombies roam these plains

@@jamesgrey13 cute… life and nice are slant rhymes :) Pick a word and see how many slant rhymes you can brainstorm (for bonus points, at a 5 minute countdown timer to keep you working quickly). Many of the rhymes won’t work in a song but practicing will pay off….

Thanks for taking the time to comment, Double… glad you found the video helpful! My goal for this video was to stop songwriters from using only perfect rhymes so I didn’t explain every type of rhyme. Hi there. Thank you for this awesome video. can I ask a question? do "wind" "swing" "twins" rhyme? they sound lyrical to me and I don't wanna change them :(
@EpicSongWriting3 жыл бұрын
Mohammad, I’m glad the video helped you. They have the same vowel sound so those 3 words rhyme well. Be careful of thinking “I don’t want to change it” One if the hardest songwriting skills is editing, changing something you’ve written. Do whatever it takes to make your song stronger 😊

@@EpicSongWriting thank you Trevor. one more question, if it's not too much. I am not a native English speaker, and I know little about English poetry. And I have recently been writing in English. Are there slant rhymes in high level poetry as well? I'm not talking about songs, I mean like works of William Shakespeare
@EpicSongWriting3 жыл бұрын
@@mohammadebrahimi3226 Slant rhymes are not common in "high level" poetry, they are a "new idea" compared to Shakespeare. There are also many songwriters that don't use many slant rhymes. I like them because it gives me more words to choose from when I'm rhyming :) If you liked this video, check out this playlist with more song rhyme videos...

Helped a lot.... I rap n wanted to use em but didn't know... Just a question.. Wat Would you categorize these rhymes into?? But bit bat Cut shut hut If you can plse help.. ✌✍️
@EpicSongWriting2 жыл бұрын
There are 3 components to a rhyme as I mentioned in the video, same/similar final vowel, same ending consonant and different consonant before the final vowel. So, but bit and bat… same end but same constant before the vowel so they aren’t rhymes. Alliteration from the b’s and consonance for the same final consonant, but not rhymes. Cut, shut and hut are perfect rhymes because they start differently but have the same vowel and same ending consonant. Does that makes sense?

Hi Trevor!Sorry but I didn't quite catch with what you were saying about the last consonant and consonant before the last vowel. Aren't they the same?Could you please elaborate?
@EpicSongWriting9 ай бұрын
Sure… in the word “consonant” the last consonant sound is “nt” the consonant before the last vowel is “n” So consonant and dissonant is weak, but consonant and distant are a stronger rhyme to use in your songwriting. Does that make sense?
@ashiqsr57519 ай бұрын
@@EpicSongWriting Yeah getting there now. So basically for slant rhymes, the vowel sounds the same but the consonant before the vowel changes. Also, what if the last consonant changes as well, will it be a slant rhyme still?I remember when you mentioned the examples time, line and find where find has a different ending.
@EpicSongWriting9 ай бұрын
@@ashiqsr5751 words rhyme when the last vowel sound is the same and the consonant is different. If the last consonant sound is the same it’s a perfect rhyme. If the last consonant sound is similar it’s a slant rhyme. This article on my website has more examples and some songwriting exercises with slant rhymes to help you write with slant rhymes.
