On a side note. How about selling refills for the Bambu Spools? I mean ... Bambu Spools are meant to be re-used. I don't think you can do the RFID tags, but just the filament on a cardboard center without the spool would be good. I don't know about other Bambu users, but I have 6 or 7 spare spools that can be used.
@SapioiT6 күн бұрын
Maybe that would be one way to lower the cost even more, using a cardboard core and nothing else, and instead relying on spools which can be reloaded with filament by removing one of the sides and just sliding the filament from the cardboard core to the spool meant to hold the filament, then attaching back the side your removed to be able to move the filament from the cardboard core to the spool, and you're good to go. And if that can bring the cost down by $1 or $2, that would be worth the investment, for quite a lot of people.
@RupertFoulmouth6 күн бұрын
I echo this sentiment. I am a Bambu Labs A1 user and I would love more options to offer filament suitable for use with Bambu Studio's re-usable spools. I would think this could be a less expensive option to produce and ship. Either way, I will give this filament try.

@RNMSC6 күн бұрын
@@Displayandplay3d Keeping in mind that 3kg spools are really aimed at people running large print farms, that's going to be part of a business decision that is likely to consider the cost of the drier to be part of the cost of the machine, and very well may have other benefits down the road. That said, a lot of whether PETG needs to be run through a dryer depends on where you live, and when you're printing. My printer space right now has a 26% humidity at 66 degrees F, or 18 degrees C. And that's with a humidifier running in the building. This won't eliminate all humidity from the filament, but it's low enough that I don't see any significant effect of absorbed water in my prints. I'm also printing out of an AMS that's getting warmed up because it's on top of the printer, so that's going to pull some of the humidity out of the filament when printing as well.

I watched your video and wanted to share a few thoughts. It looks like you’re trying to smooth production and avoid the 'bullwhip effect,' but since filament doesn’t expire quickly and your print farm has steady demand, this approach may not be needed. A cancellable membership cheaper than regular shipping likely won't solve the supply/demand issue unless it's for customer retention. I initially thought it would involve set monthly quantities, but it seems more like a free shipping offer. Instead, focusing on reducing shipping costs by encouraging larger or group orders might be more effective. Free shipping often leads to small, inefficient orders, but incentivizing bulk purchases or combined orders could lower overhead. When it comes to inventory, perhaps keeping a buffer of about 1 to 1.5 months' worth of filament could work. When stock drops to 1 month, you could start producing more until you have 1.5 months’ worth. That way, you're always ready to meet demand without overcommitting resources or capital. Predicting exact order quantities might not be necessary. A flexible inventory buffer that adjusts with actual demand could help maintain steady supply without tying up too much capital. Lastly, I'm not sure why you had suppliers giving up when your order quantities were too large, usually business grow if customer demand is high, or they work at their capacity and you use an additional supplier.

The streamlining of the production process is very interesting, and some strategies are worth checking out. Hellbot's Ecofila brand achieved +- $12/kg by ditching spools and using industrial cardboard tubing and 3D printed "caps" on each side, so when you finish a spool you take the caps and use it on the next one. It reduced cost, weight and improved supply chains at the expense of assembley.

I aint in the US so I dont really have a horse in this race, and I am incredibly impressed by the milestone. Hopefully you guys will achieve a reasonably stable, even successful business but I hope beyond hope that rather than just expand and make your millions you proceed to take up the even harder challenge to do it all again and make the cheapest and greenest filament spools possible. Ill always expect more "ecologically" friendly spools to be more expensive than the "fresh" stuff on a plastic reel. And I know the logistics of transporting and processing waste more often than not offsets a lot of the desired green saving's of recycling this stuff. But maybe, just like with some other raw material manufacturing ecosystems, you could pick up waste and spent spools from the very 3D print farms you deliver to and cleave it back into the system somehow, so long as their waste is separated by plastic type, you could do something with that? Something I personally have yet to see is a "natural colour" recycled plastic. Personally, I don't really care what colour my prints are, I sand and paint them, or they are hidden away as functional things. I don't need pure black, white or whatever, it could just be a "Mutt brown" or "Whatever Rainbow" for all I care. So long as its reasonably pure PLA, ASA or ABS, maybe you can find a good way to grind up and extrude a function only spool of ugly.

As their print farm runs multiple colors for prints, it would not surprise me if in the future they do sell multiple colors, but I suspect that the main reason they are doing black now is that running a single color through the machine that they sell filament out of, and use for supplying their own demand for black is both easier and easier (thus less expensive) to maintain sailable stock, and not have to spend extra time and money keeping track of "Where did we put th Puce colored filament this month?" issues. Because I was able to grab a 10 pack of Grey spoolless from BambuLabs during their Black Friday sale, I'm currently using that for support material for PETG prints. I've had a few problems with jamming doing this, there is a bit of heat creap that makes retraction through the extruder mechanism dicey for filament changes, but Tangled PLA may perform better as it seems to have about a 10 degree C higher print temp, meaning it's closer to the temp PETG needs. Just ordered a batch of 3-1kg spools, and will be testing that. Not sure if I'll remember to report back on that though.

My last 3 Ali Express orders (2 for 10 1KG spools, and one for 20 1KG spools) all got delivered by FedEx to the East Coast states, when I live in So Cal. So that was a few hundred dollars and 40 spools lost. I am done ordering from China.

I just bought 13kg from somewhere else, but I’m getting that subscription and our next orders coming from you guys, thank you so much!

This is awesome, I really love this milestone and what it represents. On that note, hopefully you'll keep improving over this. Shipping would be the next point for me. Though you do ship internationally to Mexico it still is cheaper to buy 3kg of filament from say Prusa than your store. Which I hate from an environmental pov.

I think what you are doing is great and I love all the helpful videos you provide. I’d love to join the club but without 1kg rolls you are cutting out most Bambu users. I know you need to do this for cost but I look forward to the day you release a 1kg roll, even $11 for a roll would be great. Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing what comes next!

I bought both PLA and PETG 10 x 1kg from Amazon delivered in 2 days for under $80 during Black Friday sales 2024. Both print great.

I understand that it cost saving, but I actually hate those welding wire spools. Hope your filament will be popular enough, so you can switch to custom, more usable spools.

3kg spools kills it for me. I'll stick with iiidmax which is made in USA and can be had for just under $10 with quantity. Works well for me

That's pretty awesome. I use less than 1 kg a month personally, so I just look for those sales when I can get it about 10 bucks a piece every now and then when I want a new color or something. But this is still really cool dude.

I would honestly jump on this if you had white filaments. I rarely do black prints and a lot of what I spend a lot of money on filament on needs to be white. But beyond that this project is amazing, I've been keeping up with this for awhile and you'alls dedication is amazing.

Waiting for the day to see you guys ship with a decent price to canada 🙏 lol it may be a far bit aways since just buying spools here from the local store in canada is cheaper, but if you guys can get it here, I'd love to try using your stuff!

Keep up the good work! Even with the $7 subscription, you are still only at $12.33/kg! I'll be sure to place my order.

Definitely on board when a matte, other colors, etc are available!

This is amazing! and I'll probably get this filament at some point but the black is a deal breaker at the moment, I would be using it for prototyping foam dart blasters and for obvious reasons that's not something you do in all black. i've found white filament works very well and would be willing to pay closer to $15 per kg for colored filament if that becomes and option

Id say you should make the subscription adjustable so the customer says how much filament he uses every month and if its lower than 3 kg for example 1kg a month you send 1 roll every 3 moths.for the price of 3kg+shipping per delivery

What are the specs like strength or print speed capabilities? There also needs to be more colors but important to have more premium looking colors. So many brands just come out with obnoxious neon bright colors that makes the entire 3d printing industry look like it's just for toys for kids.

Can’t wait to see what y’all do next, this would make a perfect case study for a business textbook on vertical integration

It makes absolute sense to me, it's even a no-brainer. When your sub and merch combined is still cheaper than other suppliers merch plus delivery why wouldn't you use them. If you use 3kg every 2 months it's obviously not going to work for you BUT you could cancel and renew your sub every few months and make it work for you.

So... was looking at your website, and there are 2 things that hold me back from signing up... 1st based on what I can see as a non member the $10 /kg spool only comes in black... is this true? 2nd is what you mentioned in the video, I have a multi spool color system that requires the spools to be standard size, if your 3kg will not fit I would have to re-spool every order I ever get which would be a massive hassle if I get to a point where I am using more than 3kg per day.

How about also adding an option for 10 dollar but with a month wait? So people can make a single purchase but still allow you to schedule properly.

I just started the hobby with 2 P1S’s and have already invested in 84 rolls of Bambu between spooled and refills, but when im up and running good I will give this a try just to experiment. Great work and thanks for giving us a behind the scenes presentation!

10$ per kg, shipping included, is basically the price of sunlu/jayo filaments from aliexpress, in 1kg spools which work with all printers. And it do not requires to subscribe to something. Decreasing final prices is great, but you have to automate more and reduce the cost more to be competitive. Pellets costs less than 2$ a kg, then there's room for improvement. Also, subscriptions are a bad thing for the consumers. The consumer have to pay to be locked with one supplier. That's certainly convenient for a supplier, but it is a bad practice IMO.

If every company behaved and thought about their customers the same way as Slant3D, we'd be living in a pretty sweet world.

For the casual user 1kg spools are more than enough. Also most potential buyers have multimaterial pinters and only 1kg spools fit in those.

Definitely interested, but I see two "show-stoppers" right now. Cardboard spools that are incompatible with my Bambu AMS, and extremely limited choice of colors. I'm currently getting my filament from Amazon with good prices and Prime shipping. Refills that could be reloaded onto Babu reusable spools is something I'm certainly interested in. That would save on shipping cost, waste, and not clog up my AMS with cardboard dust. I'll check back in later to see how things are going...

In Russia you can buy PETG, ABS filament for $6 per 1 kg.

Just gotta figure out how to re-cycle well now and you'll easily have a supply of multi color filament if you have users in the your surroundings Biggest problem there is probably figuring out a good way to tell PLA from PETG etc

I just got a $300 grant to buy filament for my classroom. I wish you had more colors available! I’m interested to see where this goes!
