Hi Steve. Brilliant stuff....even for me, a 70 year old. 😉 Couldn't help noticing...is there a reason you keep your right hand 1st finger hooked ? John
@CocosBassment4 жыл бұрын
Thanks john, yeah the index finger (1st finger) helps mute the strings you’re not using.

Amr Gamal true, that song has such a great groove. So many great Level 42 song to get into. The early Stanley Clarke stuff is so reminiscent of those early level 42 tunes.

Im not getting that really pronounced slap(tick) sound, if i left hand slap any harder, im basically fretting. Any tips for that?
@CocosBassment2 жыл бұрын
Hey blake, thanks for the comment. One thing to pay attention to is baring with the index finger, I rest it on all strings and also pull the stings closer to the fretboard then the other fingers slap down which produce a more solid sound. I have a course on my website on a lot of the slap technique stuff. Hope that tip helps C

There are diferent kinds od "dead notes", for example: "ghost notes", the "hit the strings with the right hand fingers", and the "left hand slap". I use to do the "left hand slap" but I've never known that this technique has a name. Thats nice! Thank you for share with us 🙂. Now I have a Question. Does the "hit the strings with the right hand fingers" technique has a name?

I'm struggling to get a percussive thud sound it sounds more like i'm just muting, do i just need to come down harder?

Thanks for the great lesson. I got 5 string bass guitar and I cannot mute the B string.. is it me or I should just use 4 string bass guitar to have a muted sound on left hand slapping?
@CocosBassment Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, it takes a bit of time to get use to the extra string. I play mostly 5 string and muting is tricky but not too difficult. It starts with awareness then try think of the palm muting technique. I’m planning to get back to more KZbin videos so I’ll maybe try and address this in a video lesson.

Ok,does action have anything to do with it? I can do it on my 5 string basses but on a 4,I get sound no matter what I do,the difference is my 4s are set with real low action,where my 5s have higher action. Not much of a slapper but I'm going to get this!
@CocosBassment4 жыл бұрын
Aaron Davis yes and no, it shouldn’t matter too much but if the action is way to high you’ll find it harder to get the flow.
