that is similar to making a rag quilt, A tip for washing and drying is to put it in a pillow case. the dryer helps fray it more, just keep it in the pillow case and open outside.

I've seen this done by a man crafter He and his wife craft together making journals. He makes all of the covers on his old Singer treddle sewing machine, and she does the rest. I can't rember thier names, but they are very talented. His name might be Clint His name is Clint and her name is Chelle. They are the Rambling Crafters. I love all of thier journals !! Thanks so much for being so generous with sharing your techniques and processes! This is another fantastic video.

What a fun cover and great way to use of fabric scraps! An idea for a solution to your fabric glue. Take a snapshot of the ingredients on your Action fabric glue and then compare it to other fabric glues to see if there is the same formula on another brand. So many products are made by the same company who just put different labels on their containers.

Oh, I wasn't expecting a slasher movie this early in the day 😲😄. It looks awesome, reminds me of the sleeves of my 80's denim jacket. I had so many rings I was constantly entangled😄 so much fun fraying for hours though. My new machine has great clearance for thickness. Damn it, I'm putting this on my to do list as well🙈. I love your 'chipmunk ' moments🙊. Yes, reusing materials is awesome! As my Gran taught me 'waste not want not', she was my favourite lady of all time. A seam ripper might be easier than scissors maybe🤷. I usually fray by hand but in this case the machine definitely seems easier for this. Awesome, I love it sweetheart. Tfs and have a great day 💖💖💖

Love this! I want to make a memory journal for my best furry friend, Loki, who died in April & who I miss terribly. And this kind of cover would be perfect since he did go through a destructapuppy stage. Some of his very well loved toys that are basically already scraps, could become scraps for his journal cover (including a bit of the car seatbelt he munched on because he didn’t like wearing it lol. I wonder if I could sew a cute puppy face instead of just lines 🤔💕🥺🐶🐾 It would have to be a cartoon looking dog as anything beyond that is beyond my paltry sewing skills, but how cute would it be to have to colours peeping out to make the face of a floofy person 💕

This is adorable, Barbara!🤩 I have several old pairs of jeans from my son(adult son-so lots of fabric😁). And... I recently treated myself to a pair of Guggenhein fabric scissors... half off$! The tips are supposed to be sharp, too. This project would be a great test. IF I have the patience.😵💫 lol And if my machine can handle it.😳 A "denim"/heavy duty needle helps the less robust machines.👍 A little "tip": I have some nylon bags for washing delicates in. That may help to wrangle in those loose thread & fibers. Just a thought I had.💗 I always love your videos & projects... & YOU!😍

Perfect timing for me to see this video! I just "dugout" my sewing machine (which was buried on my paper crafting table) to replace a zipper!! Now I can do sewing on and in my journals (until the machine gets buried again!). I am not even close to as neat a crafter as you are, so it's hard for me to switch when I get one thing going. I can sew things or paint, stamp, emboss, dye, spray, etc things! Now that my machine is out, I need to find all the fabric and journal covers, cards, flips, and whatever I need to be sewn before it gets buried again (or do a better job of organizing and decluttering). Love the frayed journal. And yes, I like the one with more colors showing, but you could probably spray the frayed edges (carefully) to amp up the color. Just an idea. TFS. ❤❤❤

Love this idea for a journal cover. I’ve used it making blankets/quilts using flannel. Lots of tutorials out there for the process and some are exquisite.
