Beautiful build-up of techniques Louise. It's very rare to find someone on KZbin who is interested in bringing together textiles, paper and stitching in this exciting and visionary way. I have a lot of very fine silk threads, around 2 metres long, connected together at each end by a strip of sari silk. I've been storing the threads for around 15 years (some for over 20 years) for a moment like this. You have really inspired me to pull out all my 'stuff', (as my husband calls it) and start creating again.Thank you so much.

O.M.Gosh. Amazing and so much info fast. Perfect. You're a great teacher. Years ago I had a very soft white crinkled paper (now I know scrunching was the process) with a simple fish painted with acrylics and then wax painted just over the fish which added another texture which was so nice to touch. Off to see more. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Louise...I'm still here in the US watching during the day now 😊 when you are talking about cartridge paper, do you mean the kind of paper that goes in a home printer like inkjet, laser etc...? I was just gifted with huge boxes of the old fashioned roller computer paper circa 1980's. It has holes on the sides where in fit on whee!s to move it through the printer. You know I'm thrilled. You remain in this video, as always, a genius. Thank you.
@LouiseJannetta

No, the cartridge paper is more like the stuff you get in a good quality sketchbook, but any paper will provide a result I am sure. The more I experiment with this the more potential I find in the whole process. I am going to start a Facebook forum so we can all see and share our results, both failures and successes. And sooo pleased you are enjoying the videos. See you again and all the best, Lou X

Hi, thank you for watching. I'm glad you like it. The methylcellulose glue or starch-based glue is similar to wallpaper paste but without the added chemicals. All you really need is glue that remains water-soluble when it dries, and you only require this if you intend to apply water-based paints. Good luck and happy creating. All the very best, Louise 😀

i am so glad to return and see more work / more videos. Thank you very much for documenting and sharing all your processes. Your courage in trying things certainly gives fascinating and very beautiful results. Well Im back a year later after delving into watercolours and oil pastels. I am revisiting all your relevant videos. I would like to make bookcovers merging fabric and paper. So your videos are so essential to what I want to do. I will be in touch and send photographs. I hope you are getting plenty of interest in your local area. Your ideas and experiments are valuable. Im really interested in stewardship of our paper, books, textiles. I would cover a wall in a powder room to make it a special feature. Yeah! - Not too large… it would be the perfect size. Otherwise the paper may get wet from steamy showers.) Good luck 😉

THIS IS SO FABULOUS!!!!!! Thank you for sharing this.... my mind is going in a million directions!! Do you use olive oil when you make your mami gami papers??
@LouiseJannetta
@LouiseJannetta Жыл бұрын
Thank you, glad you like it and thank you for watching. I have used nut oil rather than olive oil; I think nut oil dries more quickly. But I also thought the quick-drying poppy oil used in oil painting would work well. I don't use oil if I think I am going to add paint after the scrunching and folding process, as it may seal the paper and make it less able to take the next layer of paint applied. 😀

Thank you for all your enthusiasm. Yes, the cellulose glue is the same as wallpaper paste but without any added chemicals. They add anti-fungal chemicals to wallpaper paste, which can actually damage papers. X😀

Hi, there is a list of things that I have used in the description below the video. There is a direct link to the acid-free tissue paper, but most other items are generally available. If you need anything in particular, let me know, and I can see if I can point you in the right direction.😀

Absolutely, really good idea. Something that is easily wiped down. The only thing is that you need to leave the tissue paper to dry on the sheet. If you try to move it when it is wet it may well tear. The papers are very delicate when they are wet. X

Hi J. Thanks for watching and glad it is of interest. Yes the methyl cellulose glue is one of the main ingredients of wall paper paste but they can also contain other ingredients and may not be plant based (as is the case with methyl cellulose) Methyl cellulose is used in this instance as an reversible archival glue as it is not toxic, and not an allergen, and is resistant to bacterial growth. You can store it (mixed) in the refrigerator or freezer. However you can use wallpaper paste especially in any experimental work, try to keep to the methyl cellulose for anything important especially if it is to be contained in some way, eg a painting in a frame or a handmade book in a box. This is because if there are toxins in the glue they are trapped and may damage the art work. I get my methyl cellulose from Ratchford in Stockport, UK please see the link below. ratchford.co.uk/product/powdered-adhesives-pastes-methyl-cellulose-scmc-100g/ Hope all this helps and good luck with all your creativity X

Hi, thanks for watching. Yes, you can use Nori glue, and no, the tissue paper is just regular tissue paper; I think it was 24gsm. The sheet of plastic bag or cellophane keeps it together if you need to move it. I'll look into wet strength tissue paper, thanks for the tip. Glad you liked it and hope to see you again X. Just wondering. Could you soak the thread or yarn in the glue, and then make the desired designs using it on a separate bit of cellophane? Then let those designs dry and place them where you want them onto the cellulose glue dampened cloth and re-moisten the designs again with glue. Then finally proceed as you would normally.

Hello from Texas, USA. I am in awe of your amazing ideas. Your knowledge. I appreciate your videos so much! My question is, would a gel medium be useful instead of the cellulose glue for the process to create your papers?
@LouiseJannetta
@LouiseJannetta 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amy, thanks for watching the videos, and so glad that you find them helpful. I used the cellulose glues as they remain pretty absobant to water when dry so it is possible to add pigment that can still soak into the materials eg. the papers or the fabrics. I think that acrylic bonding would work perfectly fine as a glue but may dry to an insoluble layer and may prevent the materials from absobing pigment so well. This wouldn't necessarily matter as you can always add more acrylic as you pigment medium it just has it's own specific attributes to take into consideration. Hope this helps and good luck with it all x

I have a large amount of pva fabric size -if I use it in place of cellulose size - would I expect difficulties with the paper fabrics?
@LouiseJannetta

No, the glue will work it is just that it is a non soluble finish and will affect the way the paint is taken. I use the cellulose glue as it remains water soluble and is more sensitive to pigment absorption. Xx

Hi again Judy, I saw from your KZbin account that you have done work with pouring acrylics. Do you know anything about silicon oil? I believe it is used in acrylic pouring and I wondered if it was any good at making the tissue papers translucent. If it is then it would not interfere with any future applications of acrylic paint to the treated tissue papers.

WHAT KIND OF GLUE? I CANNOT CATCH IT. SORRY AND THANK YOU. IS THIS THE SAMEB GLUE USED FOR THE PAPERS COLLAGE?
@LouiseJannetta
@LouiseJannetta Жыл бұрын
I used methylcellulose, which is about the same as wallpaper paste but without chemical additives so is archival. I use methyl cellulose because it is a natural product that is water soluble, so I will take the paints applied really well. The PVA glues are generally non-soluble when dry and are not archival, all but the expensive book-binding PVA glues give off a chemical that if contained within a book or a frame (trapped) will rot the papers.. X Hope this helps, and many thanks for watching X😀 See the video - How to Prepare Cellulose Glue - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWS3lphpnrKnn6c

Do your fabrics and threads need to be cotton based?
@LouiseJannetta
@LouiseJannetta Жыл бұрын
Hi no they can be other types so long as they respond to the glue you use. The main thing is if you want to add paint etc. If you add watercolour or if you want the materials to respond to the paint applied, eg. absorb the paint like a cotton does or fine synthetic or sit on the fabric like a plastic or thick synthetic. Good luck XXX hope this helps

Will the cellulose glue be strong enough to stick?! Some use PVA mixed with water!
@LouiseJannetta
@LouiseJannetta Жыл бұрын
Hi. I used the cellulose and it was good for papers. It's not so effective with fabrics and papers together. For these I use cellulose and a PVA bookbinding glue mixed in equal proportions. I use the more expensive bookbinding PVA as it doesn't produce the toxic gases that can rot the papers if they are kept in a closed container like a frame or enclosed within a book. I hope this helps xxx

My last question, in this, is… do you use the cellulose powder to mix with water and then use half of this mix with PVA bookbinding glue?! I’m repeating your answer!
