This instrument is called a Vargan. Vargan (possibly from Old Slavonic varga - mouth or Greek όργανον, organon - instrument) is a musical instrument in the form of a tongue freely oscillating in the opening of a frame, set in motion by a finger or pulling a thread. The instrument is placed in the mouth area. The oral cavity and pharynx, as well as the nasal cavity and lower respiratory tract, serve as a resonator that increases volume. By controlling the work of the articulatory apparatus and breathing, they change the timbre of the jew's Vargan's sound by enhancing certain overtones in its sound spectrum, while the main tone sounds in a constant burdon.

Altay/Altai is an important word and place. I watched a lecture on evolutionary genetics, and it was stated that ~ 20 thousand years ago in Southern Siberia, in Altai, the ancestors of modern Eastern and Western Europeans lived (markers R1a and R1b, respectively). Then all R1 migrated to the west, but initially Altai is the ancestral home of most of the entire white race. It is known from other sources (Dene-Yenisei theory) that other non-R1 Siberian aborigens - the Selkups and Kets are the ancestors of American aborigines (for example, Navajo), aborigines of Japan (Ainu), as well as Finns and Hungarians. Nowadays pure Kets and Selkups are very rare (there is a girl named Hakkaida in the group, probably she?). In recent couple of millennias, they were assimilated by Turkic-speaking nomads, and this is how the Chulyms people arose, who live on the Chulym River (a tributary of the Ob river) in the Krasnoyarsk region. The Chulym people make up the majority of the Otyken group, and most of the group's songs are written in their language. This language belongs to the Turkic language family, which probably explains the invitation of Ummet Ozcan (Turkish musician from the Netherlands). Ummet Ozcan sounds not as indigeniously (natively Siberian) as others but adds a lot of his own flafour and modern international vibe, imo. Consider reactions to their other masterpieces: Phenomenon (my favorite so far), Storm, Genesis, My Wing, Legend, ...

So this low bass sound of singing is known as "Mongolian/Tuvan throat singing". It is traditionally sung by the Mongol and Tuvan Turkic peoples native to Mongolia and the Tuvan Republic of the Russian Federation.

Otyken is a Russian indigenous music group from Siberia that mixes elements of modern pop music with local folk music, using traditional instruments, lyrics and languages. “Otyken” is a word in the Chulym language, translated into Russian meaning “sacred place of power; a place where soldiers laid down their weapons." The group "Otyken" was formed in 2015 by Andrey Medonos, and their debut album was released in 2018. As of December 2023, the group has over two million followers on TikTok, over two hundred thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and six hundred thousand subscribers on KZbin. The group members are representatives of indigenous Siberian peoples from the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The ethnic music group “Otyken” consists of various representatives of the small peoples of Siberia: Chulyms, Kets, Selkups, Khakass and Dolgans. Their main style is a combination of different musical genres with the sound of ethnic instruments and throat singing. This kind of music is called World Music. The tracks are released in Chulym, Khakass, Dolgan and Russian. The group members play both authentic and rare instruments - jew's harp, ikili, khomys - as well as drums, bass guitar, keyboards and saxophone. Throat singing is often combined with recitative. The group films most of their videos outdoors: in the forest, on a frozen river, on mountain tops. The idea to create a group came to Andrei Medonos, who is its producer and songwriter. The group was created with the aim of preserving Chulym folklore, traditions and songs that are on the verge of extinction. The honey plant, not of Siberian origin, grew up in his family's apiary in the Siberian wilderness among indigenous people who maintained long-standing beekeeping traditions. Andrey also took up beekeeping, but also became interested in Chulym culture: hunting, fishing, gathering, and married a woman from the indigenous population. In 2013, Medonos launched a KZbin channel on which he began to share Chulym culture. There he demonstrated an apiary made from traditional log hives and Chulym folklore - the dances and songs that historically accompanied honey production. In 2015, the Otyken project was formed, which became a partner of Medonos in the production of wild Chulym honey. Their honey products (Ethno-Honey) became popular in Japan, and sales helped form the band and finance music production, instruments, equipment and costumes. Otyken released their first album in 2018. The following year, a yurt was built at the apiary for rehearsals and meetings, and concerts began to be held regularly at the museum.

That song depicts all things from Turkic culture and shamanism. All their instruments are representing it. Ummet Ozcan is a Turkish DJ. And Otyken is part of Turkic people living in Siberia. In lyrics, Ummet Ozcan is chanting the names of gods from Turkich Pantheon such as Tengri , Kayra etc. They are deities from Tengrism which was the religion of Turks.

I love this Altai woman!!!! The music of the last millennium is terrible - Altai music is all like that!!! It should be taken into account that in the 19th century these nationalities were in the midst of tribal enmity - there was a clan-tribal hierarchy - the head of the clan is the oldest in the clan! All their wars there were fought for profitable cattle pastures! The Russian tsars came and divided these lands among their elite!!! This is an example of Russian colonization - they leave culture in return and take young men into the army!!! There is no slavery like in the west - but there is a ransom for large tribes of this land - from 100 people they took one as a soldier!!!!! In Russia, from 1000 people they took 30!!!!!

Very primal and sensual music. That instrument is commonly called a "jew's harp" or "jaw harp." I've played one in my bluegrass band for many years.

In Russia we have a culture of life and its continuation. But you only use Aztec visualization because of the style. Or maybe it’s instilled in you by your culture. You even use a mug with symbols of death, I definitely don’t understand this, sorry!

Both Ummet Ozcan and Otyken are of Turkic origin and i think they honored their common ancestors by making this music. While I respect the Russians, this has nothing to do with them.

@SlashleyReacts You may not know this yet, but the peoples of Siberia are direct relatives of your American Indians.
