Was a fan of this song over 20 years ago when I heard the original on CD. The most beautiful lyrics I ever heard. This cover does it justice.

It's sad that people don't see it until you strip down the melody and vocals like this. Piano covers and stuff like this is required to make metal fans

Love old school In Flames. But, now that I'm in my 30's and mellowing out this seems like the perfect way to enjoy old favorites with new interests.

Hah! Same here. Loved this completely back when I was 17 (I'm 44 now) and I have a little theory that this kind of music was for me a kind of gateway to becoming really into folk music later on...

I live in a tiny 19th century village of 140 people in a little forested valley in Belgium. Next to the creek there is a grass area and some tall trees. If I ever get married, we'll have a huge banquet right there with the entire village invited and drinking beautiful trappist beer and we'll be dancing around the fire while THESE GUYS will be playing!! Actually, screw getting married, let's do it anyway!

This is how you make a cover without being a copy-cat. Perfect! I would like to see In Flames release a mellow version as perfect as this for this iconic song.

definitely gives light to the folky influences of early In FLames. IMO this sounds more like the original version of Moonshield than the recording

Wow.. This is so brilliantly done.. Since the first time I heard the song from In Flames, I hoped someone would some day play moonshield in a way like this. See, the original song is wonderful, but though I think In Flames is one of the greatest bands ever - I think moonshield is just not so greatly done as it could have been. But then, you guys not only did it - you dit it ten times better than I had ever hoped. I'ts so awesome! Thanks a lot and keep it up :)

Tired of dull ages, I walk the same ground Collecting the tragedies still Hollow ambitions in a hollow mind Carried my cross to the hill And how I lust for the dance and the fire Deep of the nectarine sunset to drink Spill me the wind and its fire To steal of the colors I'm the moonshield Shattered hope became my guide And grief and pain my friends A brother pact in blood-ink penned Declared my silent end Naked and dying under worlds of silent stone Reaching for the moonshield that once upon us shone Naked and dying under worlds of silent stone Reaching for the moonshield that once upon us shone How I lust for the dance and the fire Deep of the nectarine sunset to drink Spill me the wind and its fire To steal of the colors I'm the, I'm the, I'm the I'm the moonshield

@at2lex Please don't let your lack of musical perspective become our problem.Just because your ears can't hear anything but vocals, and cannot accept anything but pop-vocals, doesn't mean that the original of this cover is "not a song". It's a masterpiece, which is why these guys made this awesome cover. See, that is the thing about bands in this genre; all instruments are just as important as the vocals, and even though you don't like it, the vocal in the original song is done pretty good!

Covers like this are perfect for showing ignorant metal haters that theres real music in our genre, the melodies that make this song are all the same in both versions.

This exactly. I live in Virginia very close to Appalachia and the Bluegrass culture there, and I can assure you this is definitely not Bluegrass, at least not in the way I'm familiar with it. It has a much more Celtic or Irish Folk feel to it IMO. Still absolutely gorgeous.
