Given what happened in Moscow just recently with the protests, it's incredibly clear. Don't stigmatize an entire people, criticize the people who lead them. This statement is totally on par with metal musicians and fans. Music moves people is so many different ways. I'm a fan of many different genres being a musician myself. I play 7 instruments, classical viola and cello, classical guitar but I'm a metal head at heart and I have never seen racism, sexism, or any other "ism" at a metal show. I've seen people in wheel chairs hoisted high by the crowd so they can see the stage, I've seen 9 year old kids play the drums for a song with their heros, I've seen grown men singlehandedly stop a circle pit in its tracks to pick up a fallen brother/sister. I've personally used my first aid skills to save a life when somebody fell and hit their head. The metal community is probably the most hard-core all inclusive club on the face of the planet. Alex and the other members of Slaughter to Prevail, I think I speak for us all in the community we didn't need the "official statement" but thank you so much for standing up for what metal music actually is.

Given the image of the band, and the violent themes in it's videos, I think this was a really important position to take to remove any ambiguity. I know in America we take for granted being able to regularly say what we think and stand up for our beliefs but it's not like that all over the world and Russia has a pretty dark history with people disagreeing with the government. Exactly. And I always took their brutal image as expressing aggression and frustration at injustices, personal issues, forced religion, discrimination, etc. That is what I take from their “Don’t fuck with me!” Imagery. When I listen to STP I think of fighting back against all those who have oppressed me, sexually assaulted me, world issues, animal rights, etc...I think of everything I’m fighting for as an AR Activist, feminist and humanist. I see so much more that just “Guns are fucking cool!” Because I think part of their message standing up for yourself and fighting against conformity, indoctrination, etc. I always feel empowered and ready to take shit on while listening to this band.
