As someone that's done music mixing for a while (not professionally, I'm still definitely an amateur) When you layer 2 vocal layers similarly like what he showed in the video, but eeeeeeever so slightly drag one so it's slightly behind or ahead of the other track, you'll get a similar sounding effect like what you hear on Alex's voice here. Atleast, that's the only way I can explain how he got that sound without effects.
