2 separate events. Acts 1:9-11 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” 1 Thessalonians 4:17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. The clouds are literal.

Act 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. The angels told the disciples that Jesus would return just as he went up. The prophet Zechariah, in the last chapters, describes in detail how it will happen and exactly as the angels announced it will be on the Mount of Olives, that he will come. The Bible says that every eye will see it and today there is technology for everyone to see something that happens somewhere in the world...
