Come on people why do u guys freak out so fast. Obviously someone stole the name "Samba" from the Brazilians like the "airplane" that was succesfull invented in Brazil by Santos Dumont and not the Writh bros but most people in the world consider it an US invention. It is casual that other nations steal Brazil´s culture and other things but hell who cares. My point is the original Samba and the Samba in this video have nothing similar and u still call it Samba? Thats stupid.

the movement is not just either from the knees or hips or stomach...The movement,the impulse is givem by the feet and knees using bounce action,but that impulse is contained in the stomach,so that the upper side of the body(chest,head) doesn't go up and down...but still the impulse must go somewhere,and that's why if you keep upper side still and contain bounce energy in the stomach,clean hip action will apear :D

Why can't people understand that this is BALLROOM SAMBA?! is not brazilian samba, it has nothing to do with Brasil, this kind of samba is part of a group of rythms that are danced in competitions all around the world, so stop comparing the brazilian samba with the ballroom samba!!

These two are amazing and we mortals cannot appreciate the amount of effort that goes into presenting such a smooth routine. I can only aspire. I recognize many of these steps and I love how they've added some really nice flare to the steps. I've watched this a dozen times and will continue to watch it as I can learn a ton of info, wish I could watch it in slow motion to catch the detail. These two are incredible, I bought their DVD for Bronze, Silver and Gold steps thru DanceVision.

@ngattuso08 It's not their fault that the British named this dance Samba 70 years ago. Also, by adopting it there, this particular dance stopped being Brazilian culture. Ballroom dance would acknowledge that the origin of the dance come from Brazil; but only ignorant people would confuse this with your dance. Regarding the dance being bad - well sure, it is bad if you are judging for being a Brazillian dance. But it is not.

Wrong. Samba is a combination of slaves´ drum percussion with old folk portuguese, both played with brazilian and portuguese instruments (chords and drums). It´s true that the drum beat came from Africa, but in Brazil it got a tottally different mood, when combined with all those elements. It lead to the creation of a totally new kind of music, that today are diverse from african drums.

@XtremeDance10 Slavik coaches out of New York charges a lot I've heard. Karina coaches out of California sometimes NY. Not sure what she charges. He's doing more coaches though than she is. If he's at comps doing shows you can always get coaching then from him, it depends on the organizer. But at Millenium in FL he had coachings booked all day!

@maecellify heheh peoples think im trying to be Patriotic or Brazilian culture protector . But it is not . I´m Just trying to explain that some dancers and singers use the lack of knowledge of peoples in some issue to make them swallow their performance. As peoples use to call champagne the Sparkling drink made in another region or country, but Champagne is just the drink made in Champagne in France.:P Blessings!

@rbsadler Well , i use globalization to point the opposite . When Brazil was Just a tropical country , and hollywood used to think that Amazônia and Rio Were near, and Buenos Ayres were our capital , it was excusable to dance some Tarzan dance. But now with the globalization and the knowledge that Brazil is going to be the 5 economy in the world , I ask: Would the French like if Ballet was shown as hip hop? I Reapeat: dacing well and dancing correctly is diferent. PS: I hate Samba! :P
@rbsadler
@rbsadler 13 жыл бұрын
@u2bMODERATOR Things change. I mean, at first I was upset that those clogging teams on TV were calling themselves cloggers, but to them, they're being genuine. They don't have the cultural connection, and you can't blame them for that. In a world where globalization is happening at a rapid pace, nothing is going to stay pure. You just do the best you can to preserve what you can without impeding progress. Clogging and flat footing wouldn't exist without changing Irish step.

@rbsadler Understand, but skills must be attached by discipline . It is still offensive that nor music nor the dance are not in any sense a pallid memory what is Samba. I guess the parrots in the film Rio can do better . I´m not a specialist and also not a samba enthusiastic, but i´m speechless about the mistake it is. And as i can see in many comments below , i´m not the only one .

@AceyBlade this is why i dont like youtube arguments, they always diverge from the subject..... and indeed, it is very dull............ anyway, MY POINT FROM THE START is that samba music will always be samba music............point blank, samba is STRICTLY a brazilian music AND dance.............all other so called sambas do not qualify.............. im not saying these people are bad dancers, they are very talented, but they dont dance samba........
@anonymous10001000
@anonymous10001000 13 жыл бұрын
@AceyBlade hold on....... didnt YOU say that a tempo was enough??? hey i cant help but be right if you are always contradicting yourself yes dancing, and music are 2 different entities............. BUT they function together, so yes we could sit hear and discuss how they are separate but it would would be pointless..............the whole purpose of dance was to go to music..........that is WHY people dance, it would be a very bland show if you danced but with no music so you can have funwiththat
@anonymous10001000
@anonymous10001000 13 жыл бұрын
@AceyBlade you JUST proved my point..............you are saying exactly what i just disproved, a tempo does NOT equal a style of music.....and it is not enough if the piece has the correct tempo......... and how can you not correlate music to dancing??????? do you not agree that you dance hip hop to hip hop music?? salsa to salsa music?? SAMBA to SAMBA MUSIC?? rumba to rumba music?? need i go any further??

@AceyBlade no DANCING IS SOCIAL, you can never take the social aspect of dancing out of it, period......dancing is a SOCIAL concept....... and half a century is a very short time to completely change a musical genre into something completely different..........if it had derived from BraSilian samba, then it would be a lot more obvious.....that is what im trying to say....there would be so much more reference to the original..........im saying that this could not have come from brasilian samba!

Hi, I think latin ballroom is really an interesting and beautiful dance.... but, I was trying to figure out the link to the original samba... I mean, why do they call this samba, since they are playing a kind of hispanic american pop music.... I don't know, cause samba is much more influenced by african moves, that I can't see in this dance. Not complaining, just being curious.... But please, brazilian samba is not just a "carnival music"...
@laurapink123123

you can't determine that this is not a samba just because it doesn't look like one to you. There are many types of different samba's in the world and the one you know might only be one type of it. Perhaps also samba songs can be in a different language too? Just like not every pop song is in english. So please stop trying to convince people that this is not a samba, because this is the american latin samba not your " brazillian samba". Also officially this is a samba.

/this is last part of my posting, start reading from the third one below/ This here is a sort of ´posh´-samba, if you will. It doesn`t mean it has no right to be called samba! It is closest that European ballroom dancers got to the general rythm of samba in the first part of 1900`s. So what? Kill them? Your anger is ridiculous. Do you know paso doble is also far from the original dances in Spain? But spaniards never complain about it! They dance that as well as their own, falkways paso! Gosh!

There is no need of stupid comments, about who was born where or who does or doesn't dance like the two on the video. Without sarcasm and just in a professional way of a dancer I can say, this is exactly what in ballroom they call samba. But this stilistic samba is suffering the same loose of character like the ballroom tango, what has nothing more to do with the original tango, wich by the way was born in Buenos Aires. Street samba and ballroom samba come from Brazil, if they like it or not.

Unlike you, most people do NOT have a problem with the inclusion of several different versions of dance under the same name (except for other narrow-minded idiots on KZbin). Like dance, LANGUAGE is also in constant change,& the strongest definition of any word is often the MOST WIDELY ACKNOWLEDGED DEFINITION. Dancesport Samba is BY FAR the more widely danced version of samba in the world. THIS form of samba is most certainly the more frequently sought after in KZbin.

Did I say samba is African? I said its roots can be traced back to Africa! Yes,Samba has been mixed in Brazil,but where is the logic that says IT MUST NEVER BE ALTERED/MIXED AGAIN? Music and dance are in constant change; to grapple over origin and ownership is the real pity. This samba has been altered even further in England--this does not make it any more fake, nor in need of another name. By your standards the apple pie, pumkin pie, and pecan pie sh-t is probably inordinately confusing.

@rbsadler And Look. The problem is that , it is not that they are doing the best to dance samba. It seems that they did the best to dance all but samba. because nor the song neither the dance remembers samba . I hate samba , I repeat , but if I may say one thing : This is not Samba . Peoples should be angry to go to a show where they lie to audience .

@AceyBlade a tempo may be one part of a musical genre, but it does not make the genre....... a tempo is a tempo, a music genre is a music genre, big difference...............what makes a musical genre is certain key elements that MUST be present......if it doesnt have those qualities, then it doesnt qualify for the "intended" genre

@Keeliv: Great comments. I agree 100 percent. Too many latin americans think their dancing way and only their way is the correct way to dance. It's to bad they cannot see and except other versions. Hello, i just wanna say that this beautifull presentation is what they call "International Ballroom Samba", a type of european dance that was developed from Maxixe - a extinct type of african-brazilian culture - not from samba. All the things that happen in samba culture for the last 70 years are still a unexplored field for europeans. Its time to explore it! Look for samba de gafieira (Jimmy de oliveira) in internet. It would be great to have a real samba version of samba in europe!

These two are better dancers than any one commenting could ever hope or dream of dancing like. Every one says Brazilian Samba is "way better", so I looked up some of these videos to see how "amazing " it is and please! The women have zero back action or hip rotation the guys are stiff as boards and they just do a bunch of tricks, leg flicks and bounce a lot . His movement is true rhythmical hers as well. I wouldn't say he has "feminine" hips though just because he can move them!
