These two are amazing and we mortals cannot appreciate the amount of effort that goes into presenting such a smooth routine. I can only aspire. I recognize many of these steps and I love how they've added some really nice flare to the steps. I've watched this a dozen times and will continue to watch it as I can learn a ton of info, wish I could watch it in slow motion to catch the detail. These two are incredible, I bought their DVD for Bronze, Silver and Gold steps thru DanceVision.

Slavik is the master of hip movement! It comes from the ankles and the knees, not just the hips. He's releaseing his ankles and straitening and bending his knees.He's also settling his hips back and also he stretches up creating more flexibility and movement through his spine. Oh yeah, and his abs are working like crazy to give that lovely sharp clarity of movement! Karina does all the same but in 3" heels, no problem!
@xxMTBxx16 жыл бұрын
the movement is not just either from the knees or hips or stomach...The movement,the impulse is givem by the feet and knees using bounce action,but that impulse is contained in the stomach,so that the upper side of the body(chest,head) doesn't go up and down...but still the impulse must go somewhere,and that's why if you keep upper side still and contain bounce energy in the stomach,clean hip action will apear :D

As Quad said above, Brazilian Samba and competition Samba are two entirely different dances. I have spent a good deal of time in Rio, and was there for 2 months over Carnaval. I even went with friends to an escola de Samba for rehearsals. I have danced both and they are nowhere near alike, other than that they have that magnificent Brazilian/Latin Beat. Don't be offended--just enjoy them both. But, whatever you decide, they are both the Samba--one Brazilian; one Latin ballroom.

@17teacmrocks I agree with you. Hip movements emphasize the syncopation of samba. The technique used in international ballroom and other dance genres is called shadow figure: both female and male dancers imitate each other. Some may call it mirror technique if it is done face to face. Brazilians refer to either folkloric samba or street samba in their comments. International samba does have steps from its roots. People don't recognize them because they don't know about technique.

I have been told the reason that we say ballroom samba is like bazilian samba is not necessarily because of the look of the dance, but more with the music. After listening to both a true Brazilian samba song and americanized samba beat, both had the same effect on me where... Well, where the music "moved" me, and I began to dance to both. I think we took samba music, slowed the tempo down, and maybe took some of the drum beats away, but getting past that I think we created a dance that would fi

Hello, i just wanna say that this beautifull presentation is what they call "International Ballroom Samba", a type of european dance that was developed from Maxixe - a extinct type of african-brazilian culture - not from samba. All the things that happen in samba culture for the last 70 years are still a unexplored field for europeans. Its time to explore it! Look for samba de gafieira (Jimmy de oliveira) in internet. It would be great to have a real samba version of samba in europe!

@ngattuso08 It's not their fault that the British named this dance Samba 70 years ago. Also, by adopting it there, this particular dance stopped being Brazilian culture. Ballroom dance would acknowledge that the origin of the dance come from Brazil; but only ignorant people would confuse this with your dance. Regarding the dance being bad - well sure, it is bad if you are judging for being a Brazillian dance. But it is not.

Hi, I think latin ballroom is really an interesting and beautiful dance.... but, I was trying to figure out the link to the original samba... I mean, why do they call this samba, since they are playing a kind of hispanic american pop music.... I don't know, cause samba is much more influenced by african moves, that I can't see in this dance. Not complaining, just being curious.... But please, brazilian samba is not just a "carnival music"...

Wrong. Samba is a combination of slaves´ drum percussion with old folk portuguese, both played with brazilian and portuguese instruments (chords and drums). It´s true that the drum beat came from Africa, but in Brazil it got a tottally different mood, when combined with all those elements. It lead to the creation of a totally new kind of music, that today are diverse from african drums.

These two are better dancers than any one commenting could ever hope or dream of dancing like. Every one says Brazilian Samba is "way better", so I looked up some of these videos to see how "amazing " it is and please! The women have zero back action or hip rotation the guys are stiff as boards and they just do a bunch of tricks, leg flicks and bounce a lot . His movement is true rhythmical hers as well. I wouldn't say he has "feminine" hips though just because he can move them!
@dr.echevers16 жыл бұрын
There is no need of stupid comments, about who was born where or who does or doesn't dance like the two on the video. Without sarcasm and just in a professional way of a dancer I can say, this is exactly what in ballroom they call samba. But this stilistic samba is suffering the same loose of character like the ballroom tango, what has nothing more to do with the original tango, wich by the way was born in Buenos Aires. Street samba and ballroom samba come from Brazil, if they like it or not.
