Look up some of the drum solo's Buddy Rich was doing clear back before color TV was even a thing and then realize he's a JAZZ drummer playing with that kind of power and complexity as well as endurance and you'll be just as impressed. Not comparing Buddy to Dave but Buddy set the bar pretty fucking high for every drummer to follow. Some of the heavier more complex music we have today was at least party influenced and driven by him and other drummer of the past that had skill sets above and beyond what people will ever be able to truly appreciate.

@@SgtStingerI remembered Slayer refused to engage Raymond HERRERA (Fear Factory) after Seasons in the Abyss and before Divine Intervention when they searched for a new drummer to replace Dave because Kerry and Jeff dislike trigger drummers. They preferred Paul BOSTAPH and this one has work so hard to huge improve his speed and endurance double bass drum technique... With triggers, you must be precise too. Triggers don't mean easier for any drummer. You must kick each sound too 😉
@SgtStinger4 жыл бұрын
@@DamZZmaD Yes, you must be precise in time with triggers. But with triggers each hit doesn't need to be as consistently hard as without triggers, and that is why triggered double bass specifically is easier than consistent non-triggered double bass.

@aditwani65626 жыл бұрын
Well samus plays really fast (>270 bpm, check out the 2017 shred song) and he uses heel toe, which wouldnt make every hit audible at that tempo. So triggers really aren't cheating as genres like death metal call for fast and powerful hits, not dynamics on the drums, usually.
@gsoltis296 жыл бұрын
@Jens - Also if you were to put this in a purely acoustical drum battle Dave's bass drums would much louder. Dave's old school pedals don't stay as close to the head as Samus therefore playing takes a bit more effort but you are also rewarded with a bigger bang :) I did very much like Samus also. He did a great job of being ambidextrous. I used to do the same thing playing thrash back in the 80's. If you arm tires out - you just switch arms for a bit! I also dig his energy. I really believe he is into this. Glad to see anyone playing this music on the tube!
