SLAYER - Early Days: Episode 3

With Leg Three: Europe of Slayer's Final World Tour having wrapped up this past Saturday, dates in Australia, Japan, the South Pacific, and the final European dates announced in the past weeks, today Slayer announces Leg Five: North America of its Final World Tour.
Maintaining the band's ethos of "play as many places as possible to make it easier for everyone to see the band one last time," Leg Five will kick off May 2, 2019 at the Ak-Chin Amphitheatre in Phoenix AZ and see the band performing 16 shows across the Southern states and then up the east coast, culminating at the Xfinity Center Amphitheatre in Mansfield, MA on May 25. Also today, Episode 3 of "Slayer Looks Back on 37 Years" video interview series is released. Tom Araya and Kerry King talk about getting their first record deal and the release of Show No Mercy; Tom, Kerry and Paul Bostaph remember Paul's first meeting with the band and his subsequent audition to be Slayer's drummer.

Those three are Slayer to me, a buddy turned me on to Slayer with SOH and I went backward to RIB, then SOTA came out and then I liked the rest of the albums but I wasn’t totally into them anymore. It’s amazing that changing drummers could affect the rest of the music from a band like that. He had to have done more in writing and production than we will ever know from the “founders”. Still love them all tho

*Slayer without Dave is like Zeppelin without John Bonham. NOT SLAYER! Nor is it Slayer without Jeff.* Slayer are like Zeppelin or the Beatles. All four made them ONE band. Jeff and Dave are the most talented members. Their Page and Bonham. The Tom and Kerry show is NOT SLAYER. It is their first 5 LP's that matter though of course there is the odd exception. As the 'Still Reigning' DVD with extra's shows, when Dave returned, while the LP creativity did not, the live shows of older material was them at their peak live. Evolved skills and experience combined with the fire power only these four men together could create. My favorite band since KYUSS, Early Sabbath and Zeppelin! Ferocious!

No Jeff, no Dave = no Slayer. It's literally half a cover band that exists for cash grab. That's why they keep extending their farewell tour again and again, charging up the ass for a ticket and $14 piss beer. They should have been done after Jeff died. He wrote all the best songs and lyrics. Dave was completely screwed over. And the albums that Slayer will be remembered for are the albums with Lombardo. Nothing against Paul. He did great on Divine (was his prime) but he was never as skilled as Dave (timing, groove, dynamics, creativity, power, double bass). During that era, Dave was killing it in Grip Inc. Divine was their last good album before they jumped on the nu-metal bandwagon.
