Met Dave in a drum shop in Brisbane in 2003 along with Dale Crover and John Stainier; they were there as part of the Ipecac Geek Tour and Dave was a really nice guy (the other two were a little stand-offish but not completely rude). All three signed a drumhead for me & posed with me in a photograph, was a great afternoon out. Asked Dave if he got more liberties with his drum parts as I knew his parts in Slayer were mostly dictated by King (sometimes Hanneman too) with drum machines & he said that they'd given him some leeway. I don't know anyone in Slayer, much less their business dealings, but I've experienced something similar to what Dave talked about in a business venture I was part of a few years ago. This is a total guess, but let's put it this way, if a company is spending 90% of their earnings on "management fees" and two of the owners don't want to discuss it then chances are those two owners are part of the "management" that's getting paid the 90% fee. There are three types of income in America: Earned, Investment, and Passive. With a halfway decent lawyer and accountant, and the right paperwork being filed, it's easy to convert earned income into tax deductible business expenses, investments, and passive income streams. Kerry stating that he and Tom only made $114K each reminds me of how CEO's pay themselves relatively small taxable salaries each year and then take many times that in non-taxable stock options, or convert investments into passive income streams that's taxed at a much lower rate. Dave just removed himself from that inner circle by quitting the band years ago. When he found out what was happening to the money, he was told to STFU and leave. Again, I'm just taking a wild guess.

@@davidmorneau5260 Lombardo was by his own admission having issues around the time he left the first time. But when he "filled in" in 2003 or so before he rejoined again he was a monster and every time I saw them after that was insane on the kit. Lombardo has a vibe, groove, whatever you want to call it. Slayer sounds different with him on the kit. With Bostaph honestly to me it sounds like anyone else. YMMV of course.

Slayer was the sum of the core group of guys. When Dave wasn't there anymore, I pretty much lost interest. The difference in sound was obvious, and wasn't good.

Yup. The plumber gets to go home to his family every night. Sounds like some or all the guys in Slayer were/are getting royally screwed.

Dave Lombardo was, and is still, my hero. I and all of my friends in SF spilled blood at Slayer gigs in the Bay Area in the 80's. Leaving every show bleeding was a badge of honor. As a drummer, Dave Lombardo really has no equal. A living legend.

I've seen both Dave and Paul Bostaph play with Slayer. Both were fantastic. I liked the Dave show better, mainly because it was a better venue and a better tour and setlist.

As can be said of most band the original lineup IS the band. Seeing or hearing a live show or studio album with those 4 playing their songs is magical. But hearing Dave play, whatever the music makes me want to bang my hand to the verge of not caring if it breaks or not. And he is my personal favorite drummer, bias fully admitted. Catching his drumstick at a 2010 show is a valued collection piece.

Lombardo is one of the greatest thrash drummers of all time, there was never any reason to screw him over, or to let a bunch of suits rob the band as a whole - not very metal at all.

A lot of artists get ripped off, usually because they are young, desperate, and will sign anything to advance their career. Sometimes it can take years to escape a bad contract.

Kerry seems very full of himself. Guess he doesn’t mind making a recording company and management millions, and getting the smallest piece of the pie ?? Dave tried to get what should have been theirs $$$ and they are fine with 80s business plan 👍 Imagine Dave wanted to actually get paid LoL 😂

Incredible drummer, a machine that groove and swing even if the song is fast.

Kerry says “Jeff actually did something!” Haha Yeah man, he did that and also wrote every important Slayer riff there was. Jeff and Dave were the Slayer sound. And I 100% believe that Dave was right about the money- I guarantee they were getting screwed but pride is a hell of thing when you have to admit that you were naive for a long time

I was 14 in 2012 when I first saw Slayer. I became a huge fan. Then months later they fired Dave Lombardo and I couldn’t believe it. I was a big drummer at the time ( I play guitar more now) and I was so upset they fired Dave Lombardo. Even at that age I knew Dave wasn’t lying and I never went to see Slayer after that because that whole situation left a bad taste in my mouth. I still love listening to them and the first 5 albums but I can’t get over this situation.

@alci7202 жыл бұрын
Yes. He was impaired by his alcohol consumption.
@Wargasm542 жыл бұрын
Jeff wasn’t playing or touring with the band at that point. He had a spider bite that jacked up his arm. In addition, he was sinking into a bad alcoholic state. Probably as a result of not being able to do what he loved. And that he generally liked to drink….a lot.

Show No Mercy came out 40 years ago this year. 1983 . Man, I started listening to Slayer in 1985. 38 years . Dave deserved better that’s for sure. A co founder member should be paid like one. On the plus side every band that Dave is in sounds 100% better with him behind the drum kit. He kills it at every gig.

Bruh, makes no sense to me why the rest of Slayer was so complacent with getting thumbs up their asses for little pay. But Dave was the bad guy? Good on Dave for providing his drumming to many other iconic bands. 🤘🏼🤘🏼

One of the best drummers of all time. The real magic of Slayer. I can’t even explain how amazing he is and every Slayer show i’ve seen with him was like on my top 10 shows. (the best Slayer show was the American Carnage tour). Every time he plays Raining Blood or any song in particular, you can feel the power that is his double bass. I just seen him with Testament this year at NYC and it’s like damn he hasn’t lost anything. He’s still as good as when I first saw him with Slayer. If you didn’t see Slayer with Dave then you truly missed out. One of the best bands i’ve ever seen. FUCKING SLAYER!!!

My opinion is that it shows what kind of people they are when the fired Lombardo, and Jon dette bailed them out. Then kicked him to the curb. No thanks or gratitude there. Jon Dette was and still is a beast on the drums and was a closer fit than bostaph.
