Dave Lombardo is known as one of THE BEST drummers in music. Period. Even his stuff after Slayer is good. Jeff (now deceased, RIP, the blonde) is a great musician and wrote many Slayer tunes. Kerry (the bald guitarist) is heavy as f**k! Tom (bass/vocals) rocks and has a good time no matter what.

Absolutely agree! I saw them in Chicago at The Aragon ballroom, back in 2006 (yes, I'm old) The 'Unholy Alliance tour' with Slayer, Mastodon, Lamb of God and a few others. Slayer was almost twice as loud as the other acts and much heavier. You could feel the heat from the pyrotechnics and obviously the music. I was dead for 3 days afterwards 😆 One of the best metal shows I've ever seen.

I came to Slayer late in life at the age of 60 . I was listening to an TV advert for electricity , and they were using Raining Blood , I listened a few time not knowing who the artist was or whether it was in house advert music , I thought to myself who is playing this ? It’s really good metal . Found out it was Slayer and never looked back

‘Hell Awaits’ is worth a look, too. Actually from the same live set and it has a brilliant intro. Gary Holt, from Exodus, took over on guitar following the passing away of Jeff Hanneman, and he’s another god of the heavy riffs. Check out some of the Exodus videos, too.

Of all the drummers from this era and genre I think Dave Lombardo is often considered the best and most respected. Long before I'd heard Slayer's music I had heard the name Dave Lombardo. You should definitely do more live Slayer, this is where they shine. They have several great recordings of their shows over the years. Live Intrusion was the concert video that broke my apprehension to Slayer's music. They have some of the best grooves in metal, check out 213 from the Live Intrusion show.

Please never listen to the LIVE VERSION first. The studio version is always the best version to start with. Lead singer and bassist is Tom Arraya. Armenian heritage born in America. Jeff Hanneman is the founder and lead guitar, he’s the giant with the hair. Kerry King rhythm and lead guitar the bald dude used to wear leather straps with nails in them. Dave Lombardo the greatest drummer ever. Slayer stands on its own, nobody can ever come close.

Oh, cripes! This was diving in at the deep end, Bisscute! Other songs from Slayer that would help you to understand their work include: Angel of Death, Piece By Piece, Altar of Sacrifice, Postmortem, South of Heaven, Mandatory Suicide, Seasons in The Abyss, Dead Skin Mask, War Ensemble, Repentance, Bloodlines and Necrophobic. This gives you a mixture of face-melting brutality, creepy af horror soundtracks and utter thrash speedruns. South of Heaven and Dead Skin Mask should gave been on the soundtrack of a classic horror movie. Necrophobic is . . . well, a law unto itself. Two verses, three choruses and a guitar solo in one minute and 38 seconds. You'll probably want a lyrics crib sheet for that one. Finally, the band's name is usually pronounced "fuckin' Slayyerrr!".

Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer are the Big 4 of American Metal. You can hear Slayer in pretty much every metal band today. They're fast, but you gotta remember when listening to them how new that sound was at the time. No one played like them (Raining Blood came out in 1986)! By extreme metal standards today (melodic death metal, technical speed metal, black metal), Slayer is not that fast. But they invented HOW to play super fast, and have structure at the same time.

I love Slayer, but that's not Lakeland 1991. Lakeland isn't outdoor, and I was actually at that show (1991). I was excited. Great reaction though. Kerry King: bald guitarist with the tattoos Jeff Hanneman: blond guitarist (died in 2013) Tom Araya: singer, bass Dave Lombardo: drums Formed in Huntington Park (southern Los Angeles) CA, in 1981. They had 12 albums, the first in 1983. And the band name is pronounced SLAYERRRRR!!!!!
