Hi Mark, rewatching this video again. I see you also placed the cats in the same place as I am going to and Johan did. Those stock LS7 cats look a little larger than the ones I have, my guess is 4.5 or 5” in diameter. Do you feel the heat shield around the body of the cat is absolutely necessary? I was planning on at least a flat panel on the inside to protect the shifter cable and on the other side like you have to protect the shock from excessive heat. Anything else you would do differently?

Hi Joel, yea they're slightly over 5" in diameter without the shielding. Cats get upwards of 1000 degrees F and it gets worse with track days. Since they're still in close proximity to engine wiring, shift cables, parking brake cables, oil lines, even the nylon locknuts on the suspension, I wanted to have an extra layer to be safe.

Mark, I’m starting to tackle this now. Appreciate all the detail on the extra heat shields. How has all this worked out. Anything melt with the setup shown in the video?

Hey Joel, one concern has been the area right above the cats and pipe just before the mufflers. The fiberglass gets VERY hot, enough to discolor the epoxy slightly on the bottom side of the rear clam in that area. I'm thinking about adding some heat shielding to that part of the body. The only other thing I've noticed is the wiring harness that extends down the K brace (you can see this at 2:42 in this vid) I need to extend the heat shielding back all the way as the black plastic sheath is slowly melting.

@@markb5066 Thanks Mark. Very helpful. My harness will be in the same general area so an update on what you did would certainly be appreciated. I guess just so much heat and so little room it’s challenging. I forgot if you have the rear louvers or not. I was hoping they would let out a lot of the heat.

@@JoelKSLC I don't have rear louvers, but plan to add them at some point, should definitely help.
