The gambling sub genre might be worth a bigger dive. It's such an interesting and specific sub genre and has a lot of films (good and bad) with some of the biggest stars of the day. Not to mention the 'Angel' craze. After the success of "Iron Angels" (1987) w/Moon Lee (Moon Lee Choi-Fung ) there were a ton of Hong Kong films with either 'Angel' or 'Angels' in the title. There were 2 direct sequels to "Iron Angels," both w/Moon Lee, but many more Angel films. Some had Moon Lee in them, like "Angel Enforcers," "The Revenge of Angel," "Angel Force," Angel Terminators II," and "Angel's Project." Some didn't. I'd love to see you do a video on Moon Lee some day. I've also seen some crazy films out of India. "Dhamaal" is an unofficial remake of two American films, "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" (1963) and "Rat Race" (2001). Strange seeing Mad World as a musical. It also spawned a number of sequels.

I don't know if it's from Hong Kong, but there's this film that has been a mystery in my household for over 20 years now and it would fit in with the style of some of the films shown here. It was shown really late at night on SBS (Australia's home of world movies and foreign language entertainment as well as cult cinema and special interest programming) and my mother and I just happened to catch the end of it. We've always wondered what it was and where it was from as it looked insane from what we saw. It was a long time ago and my memory of the film has reduced it to 1 scene. The bad guy has lost his eyebrows (I can't remember how it happened) and so he's going around with band-aids where his eyebrows should be. He goes into a convenience store and has an argument with a young woman who ends up saying (at least according to the subtitles) "No eyebrows? Serves you right!". I've asked a lot of people about this movie but no one has ever been able to identify it. I'd love to be able to track it down one day and watch it from the start as it looks like a fun movie. I'm guessing from the way it looked, it was probably made in the 70s or 80s but I could be wrong. I wish I could remember more about it.

I discovered CAT-III Hong Kong movies back in the 90s, I was never disappointed lol! They were so playful, very fun, not your usual gore or adult movie. I remember that kung fu movie where their fighting styles were based on sex moves, it became something of a hidden amusement at school when the video spread lol! Some of my classmates would go to my place and then watch these weird Hong Kong movies that I downloaded from the net from some kind of rare cult movie site (which has shut down a long time ago unfortunately, forgot its name but it had z and cult in it).

I have some weird feeling this extravagant, over-the-top ridiculous film style might come back into popularity one day. Maybe even soon.

The "kung fu comedy" genre, which probably started with "Drunken Master", was so popular at the beginning that many opportunists made them, ended up with thousands of finished films but few got released. Legend has it that they are still in their cans in a warehouse somewhere.
