I have 1500 regular cab beefed up half as much so to speak and it's Great. It's not a monster but it's size & weight a lot less. Still hemi, 3.92 gears, 8 speed, 34" G003's, and fairly good street manner too. If it had front & rear lockers, I might have headed more towards Monster 🙄🤩

Good thing you got the crew cab. Even then the 2500 with the diesel has only max payload capacity of around 2,200lbs. Truck good for wheeling but not hauling heavy with a trailer in tow. GVWR 10,000lbs. You can't change that with a lift.

Thinking about doing a similar build with a 2020 eco diesel. I live in Florida, trails aren’t very challenging. Mainly for over landing in easy to reach locations. Will the 1500 be fine or should I opt for the 2500?
@tawerstlein4 жыл бұрын
I have an '04 1500 and kick myself every now and then for not getting the 2500. If you have it in your budget get then 2500. I also live in Florida but moved here from Arizona.
@cecochran554 жыл бұрын
I was wrestling with this decision myself and was leaning towards the 2500 because it was more heavily duty allowing for more weight and towing. If you swap diesel for Hemi the Powerwagon is a pretty sweet base platform. what's cool about Sledge build is he matched or exceed Powerwagon capabilities with a full Cummins turbo diesel which is incredible. I think he lost the Powerwagon front disconnecting sway bar but gained a super powerful engine that can last a million miles. 2500 offers better platform IMO just it is a much bigger truck that is challenging for daily drivers and parking in populated areas. 1500 is easier to daily and they upped the interior and towing a lot recently. Fast Lane truck videos go into greater detail both have their pros and cons.
@paulwiest81674 жыл бұрын
CE Cochran what gets me is I head the new eco diesel with the 33 gal tank gets around 1000 miles range... which would be amazing for adventuring. I can do either but the eco diesel just seems more practical. I tow max 6.000 lbs for work so nothing crazy. I just don’t know if that justifies a 2500 especially when I could get more range out of the ecodiesel
@cecochran554 жыл бұрын
Paul Wiest I admit I am biased towards the Cummins for it's power, range, available mods, robust longevity and best in class towing all of which increases resale value . The down size is size, weight and cost. The ecodisel is smaller and lighter I just don't know if it has same longevity. For what you need in towing even a Hemi will satisfy your needs and you could do Powerwagon. From sounds of it you aren't going to be pushing off-road so you don't need all extras. Plus ecodisel is only in the 1500 and you prioritize range more. RAM really improved the 1500 alot in past 2 years and its quite capable as daily and off-road. Next year they ate going to add more to platform to better compete with Ford Raptor but it sounds like you don't need it but it would weigh on my mind. The 1500 is smaller and depending on spec cheaper. This sounds like the clear choice for you IMO. You just need to drive both and decide. The other segment I am watching is the electric with Rivian and Tesla about to release a truck in 2 weeks. They have incredible power, acceleration, towing, more space and less maintenance and cheaper total cost of ownership.Just it is super new technology and 400m range is a question depending on availability of charging networks. Ram has added a hybrid engine component to 1500 as first step to adopting this technology. Ford invested $500M in Rivian and announced a strategic partnership. Ford is slated to have electric F150 in 2 years. I am biased towards RAM as I think they have better interiors, more off-road prowess and offer the disels I just hope they offer more electric in future.

I came back to this comment section having totally forgotten this conversation happened and was surprised to find it. Figured I’d update: im now the proud owner of a 2020 2500 Cummins. It is a lot more to drive than the 1500 but I love it. Have only been rooftop camping twice because it’s unbearably hot. I really like the power wagon but the Cummins won me over in the end. Hopefully one day I’ll get my truck close to as capable as sledge

On my 2017 2500 Diesel, I went with the Carli leveling kit on 35” F rated tires and so far I’m very pleased. If I decide to go to 37” tires I will probably sell the leveling kit and purchase the AEV kit. I have their bumper and love it! What are your thoughts/reasons for going with the AEV kit vs the Carli full suspension? Considering this is your personal truck. Thanks in advance. Ben
