I was born in 82. My dad played Jackson my whole life growing up. By far my favorite artist almost 40 years later. My best friend of 30 years passed away to young this year. My sister helped me make a video of our lives together with this song in the back ground. Jackson will be my favorite artist until I can meet my buddy again

I was born in 80 and my father played jacksons music my whole life growing up too. Everytime I have a small beverage 😄 I always go back to these songs. These days, fountain of sorrow, late for the sky etc. Such a wonderful songwriter and performer. Will always be my favourite of all time.

My younger brother passed last year just two days before he and his wonderful wife would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. It was his time to go, but they'd married young and were still in love, although in a more mature way over the years. Their happy life together and wonderful kids were definitely some consolation in our tune of loss.

In these politically charged days I find that I am in complete disagreement with his politics and yet, at least with him, I am able to separate the art from the artist. +K6III450MHZ I read a biography on David Geffen. David had met/found JB and was so impressed he invited him to live for free in his Hollywood Hills mansion and just write all day and be creative. Jackson invited many friends over and including what became the Eagles - Asylum Records is an American record label founded in 1971 by David Geffen and partner Elliot Roberts, who had previously worked as agents at the William Morris Agency. Founded specifically to provide a record contract for Jackson Browne, the label signed Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles,Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan for two albums. It was taken over by Warner Communications (now the Warner Music Group) in 1972, and later merged with Elektra Records to become Elektra/Asylum Records.

Bernard Catalinotto I'll tell you why you cry like a baby : because these are real, true words that are so very important and meaningful to anyone who's had a pulse, ever - because we can only gasp or sob or shiver at the total, big, Truth of Jackson Browne's words. I put these words onto my little brother's tombstone : he hadn't walked in the three years before he died. And that's why you cry like a baby - or why I do, anyways.

iamintheburg Jackson's songs make us think about uncomfortable things such as the topic of this song but in such a way as to give courage and a deeper understanding of what it is to be human. BerrysJSRD It's just a fountain of sorrow, isn't it ?????? Big and awesome and meaningful feeling - need - hope - It's what we can feel and long for, but probably cannot talk about. Too big and painful and personal and too scary for us mere survivors and sufferers. I really and truly am blessed that I had the good luck to find JB and the good sense to listen and take his words unto my life : enriched by his poetry and deep, caring human understanding. YOUR words, BerrysJSRD : ' tears of sorrow or tears of joy spring from the same well...' Your words reach me today. You have given me a gift, and I thank you very very much. Maybe I'm coming across as maudlin or over-dramatic, but WTF ? I am feeling the feeling and the sincerity of your words; so, thanks.

I'm posting under my son's name. Nothing could be more different... he's my beloved 27 year old son with schizoaffective disorder, but I'm so technologically stupid I can't figure out how to post under my own name. Anyways, I'm 61 and I have adored Jackson Browne since I was 14 and found my sister's "Saturate Before Using" album and heard Jamaica Say You Will. I MADE my kids listen to him, ha-ha, but I don't regret it. He is a poet, and even my Uncle Wick would have approved. He was a professor of English lit, a West Pointer, a Battle of the Bulge survivor, a painter and woodcarver, and favored Dylan Thomas, Gerard Manley Hopkins, William Butler Yeats, et al. He would have wept over Jackson Browne. I thank you, Jackson Browne, for keeping me sane through many great and terrific years of insanity and anxiety. Such a beautiful heart and mind, and God's gift to me! If for no other reason to be glad you lived, let me just say you made a difference in my life. Thank you.

Never knew the song mentions burying someone: "I can't help feeling stupid standing around, crying as they ease you down... There is one dance you'll dance alone." How many times I feel powerless in the face or seeming iron chains of Fate, also mentioned in the song. I don't know the burden of being a father, but I know the quiet certainty that some things cannot be fathomed, and yet they are real, whether you test them or not. Somethings are unchanging, in life. Death is a mystery.

My best friend passed away about 15 years ago. She was an artist unlike any other. She also lived on the edge. At her memorial, maybe 50 people stood up and recalled their experiences with her, but I couldn't. The memorial was at a little evangelical church that had previously been the Green Gables Tavern. My friend and I were only familiar with it during those times. After the service, when most everyone was gone, I played this on their rickety old upright piano and the tears just flowed. He spoke of my friend without ever knowing her.

For my big Sis, social worker caring for youngsters who had got off to a bad start in life. I wrote her eulogy and when I got to the lectern to read it I turned to face the people in the church, the doors at the back were wide open, the pews were completely full and all standing room taken and I could see people all the way down the street. Over 2000 people came. A life well lived and, as she always said, the party does not begin until I get there ... she died aged 55 and left her mark on everyone who ever met her. This song takes me back to that day every time. I miss her.

Keep a fire burning in your eye Pay attention to the open sky You never know what will be coming down I don't remember losing track of you You were always dancing in and out of view I must have thought you'd always be around Always keeping things real by playing the clown Now you're nowhere to be found I don't know what happens when people die Can't seem to grasp it as hard as I try It's like a song I can hear playing right in my ear That I can't sing, I can't help listening And I can't help feeling stupid standing 'round Crying as they ease you down 'Cause I know that you'd rather we were dancing Dancing our sorrow away (Right on dancing) No matter what fate chooses to play (There's nothing you can do about it anyway) Just do the steps that you've been shown By everyone you've ever known Until the dance becomes your very own No matter how close to yours another's steps have grown In the end there is one dance you'll do alone Keep a fire for the human race Let your prayers go drifting into space You never know what will be coming down Perhaps a better world is drawing near And just as easily it could all disappear Along with whatever meaning you might have found Don't let the uncertainty turn you around (The world keeps turning around and around) Go on and make a joyful sound Into a dancer you have grown from a seed somebody else has thrown Go on ahead and throw some seeds of your own And somewhere between the time you arrive and the time you go May lie a reason you were alive but you'll never know PS Great Song but the last line only applies to you if you never choose why you continue to live because only you can chose that for yourself.

What a hard song to listen to. So painful and joyful at the same time, which is really the ultimate challenge for humans. It made me cry when I was 20 and it makes me cry now. I can't believe Browne wrote this so young. The wisdom is breathtaking. I listened to it endlessly when it came out. He looked then like the twin of my former husband, who I wronged and still repent hurting. So lovely and interesting that the album cover is a reference to the Magritte painting with the evening sky and the streetlight. I'd do anything to go back to those days and dreams, a golden age of music and hope we lived, didn't we? As a poet I once knew said, "how we danced, do you remember?"
