Chihuahua's are known to be generally healthy and they are a small dog, they can be a bit snippy and not recommended for children but they can be very loyal! They often get misunderstood!

Honestly having a dog is so much responsibility and hard work. I am a junior in college and got my first dog this summer (in May). I have also grown up with dogs my whole life but having your own dog at college is a lot of work. Potty training in an apartment is so difficult, especially if you don't live on the first floor! Also it takes a really long time to potty train, like I thought it would only take a few weeks but it takes much, much longer! Like be prepared to be taking him or her out at least 20 times a day when potty training. During my finals weeks I'm fortunate enough to have my mom take my dog home to take care of her since I literally live in the library at those times. A dog might seem like a lot of fun once they are older but balancing a puppy with school and a social life is harder than it may seem. I don't want to discourage you but just make sure you are really ready! Also be prepared to have a dog that is bigger than 10 lbs if you adopt from a shelter. I got my puppy from the shelter when she was 2 months old and weighed only 3 lbs. They told me she would only weigh 15 lbs. Well she now weighs 30+ lbs! I love her to death but it definitely has been a struggle to prioritize having her and being in college. Lastly make sure you are able to take your dog to the park at least once a day for 30 mins to an hour! puppies need their exercise and need to socialize with other dogs so it's really important to try and take an hour a day to make sure they get to run all of that energy off!

If you want to get your sleep schedule back on track, you can't take naps and you can't stay up all night either. Sounds ridiculous, but you have to try to go to sleep at a normal time. It's hard, but it works and it's definitely worth it.

I had the same issue with the dishwasher at our old house - ants just like that area sometimes. I think, like you said, it's because dirty dishes are in there, so crumbs and bits of food tend to be. My roommates and I found that rinsing dirty dishes really really well before putting them in the washer helped.

bichon frise! they're a great size, apartment friendly and they love to play (their cheerful attitude is their main character trait). plus they're so fricken cute i think you'd love one as long as the puppy doesn't have to be left alone a lot!

I adopted a puppy last week! He is alba but be careful with health issues. I feel in love with him from the moment I saw him and now he is really sick and we might have to put him down. If you want something small that is not a teacup, check out either a yorkie or a chipom ( chihuahua pompom ), they are both very small,and very cute dogs

I have a teacup yorkie and she is the runt of the litter as well. she has only had one health issue and that was a tic bite because we live in the country. I love her so much and I have never had issues with her :)

I'm glad you actually care enough to not get a teacup. You're a great person and yorkies are pretty small I had one for a fewbyears and she was happy, playful and very loving. And they're fur gets kind if long and you can put cute bows in it, but not tight ones because they hurt them... and now I'm rambling. .. hope this helps :D

If you go to most shelters and tell them what type of dog you are looking out (what size, personality, ect.) and they will show you some potential matches for you. So I wouldn't necessarily be set on a certain breed when you go to the shelter but just know what personality that you are looking for.

get a Pomsky. half husky half Pomeranian! they are super cute. But a Bichon Frise and a Peekapoo (poodle/Pekingese) don't shed. So that's nice!

a maltese! my friend has one and it is literally one of the most loving dogs ever! i have two english bulldogs and i would absolutely recommend one, they are literally so calm and loving and omg i love them, but they are more then 10 pounds

Just go to the shelter and see if there are any you feel connected to, they might be a mixture or something. The shelter might not have a specific breed, but when you see it you will know which one you want.

Get a Pomeranian! I have one and he's the greatest. He weighs 8 pounds and he sleeps under the covers every night. They're great for apartment living too. Plus their freakin adorable! Whatever puppy you get you should adopt one from the shelter. Good luck!

bichonpoo (half poodle half bichon) i have 2 of them 1 is 9 and 1 just turned 1 and they are one of the best kind of dogs to get! all they do all day is just lay down and cuddle with each other its so cute!

Get a Pekingese. So playful. So cute. Perfect. My Pekingese is 8 year old and still runs around like a little puppy. She learned tricks pretty quick too. If you look at pictures, the hair looks really long but if you have him/her get a puppy cut or just short hair they are adorable. You should really look into it. (:

Lindsey, I have a bichon frise. I got her for Christmas 6 years ago and she is the best little dog ever! When she was a puppy she was a little bit yippy and hyper like any other puppy but the entire time I've had her she's been super lovable and docile. You should check them out!

You can register it to be a service dog and take it on a plane whenever, for free I'm pretty sure. My mom's friend travels a lot and she did that and registered her dog for service for depression from her travels. I recommend a Maltese, most don't grow over 8-9lb. and they are adorable! Especially as puppies. :3

Definitely go and see the puppies at the dog shelters! Thats how i got my love lol His name is Chuck and he was 2 months old when i rescued him from the shelter. This shelter puts the animals down if no one adopts them so i was glad i could help him out. He is a corgi mix and weighs 12 pounds but hes definitely small.

I have a morkie and his name's bentley and he's been such a great dog for my family. But i will warn you he gets pretty hyper at times but than again hes only 2 years old. I would highly recommend a morkie for you though! :)

I have a Maltipoo (maltese and poodle) and he is so cute he is about ten pounds. He is black and cream and he is so sweet the only thing is he barks a lot but I still love him he's my baby. I got him for my 14th birthday I believe. So he's two :)

I'm much more on board with you getting a pup now, when you first said it a couple of vlogs back, I just thought it was going to be an impulse buy from a petshop or something. Good to hear you a) plan on adopting one and b) have completely thought through who's dog it's going to be and who would look after him/her when you go away. Surprised you're allowed to have doggies where you live though! I thought they'd be strict on pets :) My thoughts on breeds: Jack Russells are gorgeous, very smart and very active. But if you want a more laid back breed, Maltipoos are pretty cool. I'm unsure how much 10 pounds is, because here in Australia we use kilograms haha, but Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are gorgeous dogs too. I'd advise you get a Kelpie, like my baby, but they are waaaay over the weight limit as such! Haha :) Good luck choosing one, very excited for when you do. Every home should have a dog and every dog should have a home!!!

Get a cavachon! It's a mix between a cavalier King Charles spaniel and a bichon frise! They're so cute and I'm pretty sure they don't shed and they're less than ten lbs. but still kind of bigger, like definitely not 4 pounds or less like chihuahuas or yorkies

You should get a cavachon if you want a small dog personally I love big dogs I have a golden retriever but for you a cavachon would be perfect and they don't shed a lot and they are soo cute! Good luck!
