We all sleep and dream, and it’s something so common to us, but how much do we really know about the mechanisms behind how they work? This video will explore the molecular mechanisms behind the different stages of the sleep cycle and how dreams occur in relationship to sleep. There is still so much more information that is yet to be discovered in terms of these mechanisms, which makes it a critical topic to delve deeper into. It’s amazing how much our brain can benefit from dreaming in connection to the many emotions that we experience in our dreams. Thanks for watching and sweet dreams!

very good video, but a little correction: any memory that stays longer than around a minute is already a long term memory, even if that time span doesn't sound long enough. to exemplify, short term memory is the one you use when someone tells you a phone number and you gotta write it down quickly, before more informations come in and you forget it. the parts of the brain that activate when using those two types of memories are distinct, that's why a memory that stays for only five minutes is still a long term one.

We have the ability to fantasize & imagine things when we're "woke" but what has control over the imagination department when we sleep & causes our brain to give us fake stuff that happened? Seems weird & fascinating at the same time

The part of the brian that allows to function on your senses while you're awake ( Cortex ) is 100% shutdown when you enter deep sleep. Ultimately, a part of your brian isn't really controlling things but rather, will process a series of images based on your love, fear, and emotions. But since that your brain can't function normally either since that the cortex is shut off it will often process these memories in the most weird and inconsistent way. At times, flatout making you do things in the dream that you can NEVER DO in real life. Good or bad, things that you will never do in real life. To tell you the truth, dreams are stupid and should never exist.

You can't control them there ls no sound and they are nightmarish if there's sound it'll give you a heart attack or that's when you wake up

@@adaptercrash Dreams always have sounds lol! Fake sounds indeed but they're there! And they're pretty vivid too! Basically, it's your subconscious controlling everything when you sleep. It will create sounds and images. All fake of course, but still vivid enough to have you scratching your head once you wakeup assuming you'll remember your dream lol.

What's the government is about dreams when I sleep is in case you don't even think you are leaving forget the dreams but in my case there's one dream that I had back in February 28th and 2017 that I have not forgotten, that dream will stay with you until one day it will come true. And when I see a dream I really see the dream come to life!

@OMOM, you guys don't have peace. You can’t inspect grammar on social media. How about you open English class so that you can make extra income ? Checking grammar on social media doesn't make you productive
