It's so amazing! I worked with toddlers, children, teenagers and adults on the spectrum for about 25 years. I'll never, ever forget when one of the toddler boys I worked with first got his electronic communication device. He went from full on meltdowns more times in a day than I could even count. He got his device and could finally communicate his needs/wants/feelings, etc and like magic, his meltdowns grew less and less frequent and I saw that once sad, angry child more times than not with the biggest smile on his face!!!

I believe the first person to introduce buttons to dogs works with kids on the spectrum, and she got the idea from there... she wrote a best-seller, I guess its name is How Stella learned to talk
@shannondominguez97252 жыл бұрын
@@LiloDaCosta Yep Christina Hunger is a speech therapist and she’s the one who pioneered the use of buttons with Stella then the movement took off from there. Currently there’s a research study at UCSD with multiple learners including Bunny and Otter who who participate. Each learner and their teach who participate gets their button presses logged on@Fluent Pet app and everything gets studied by the team there it’s pretty amazing.

The “talking pets” on KZbin have very different personalities. Here is a guide to a few of these animals with buttons on KZbin: Russell the cat: “I operate these buttons on behalf of the other cats in the house. The other cats want infinite ice and catnip. By the way, did you finish the laundry?” Billi the cat: “I live on a strict schedule. We cuddle before we play fan toy. It’s a trade, you understand. Then you can have your catnip water.” (Edit: “Catnip water” is what Billi calls coffee.) Bunny the dog: “Why do we forget our dreams?”

Bunny has excellent spatial awareness, too. I've noticed that she doesn't have to look at the buttons as much once she finds a landmark button. She seems to know where her next button must be relative to the one she saw, and she'll press it without looking.

Yes, she also clearly has the entire string of speech in another species' language worked out in her head before she begins. That's an impressive level of sophistication.

I don't see it feasibly happening, but I would love to see Bunny meeting Billie the cat who also uses a board. There is now also the recent addition of a guinea pig with buttons.. Doing awesomely well!.. Her name is Milli... Orders food for her daughter, or around 10 different choices from "room service", with "now" repeated if her slaves don't move fast enough.. She complained about the blaring TV at 8pm, because she wanted "sleep now"...She clearly rules the roost in her home! We had a guinea pig like this when I was a child.. She house-trained herself, in order to earn access to the entire ground floor of our home.. This meant she could be in our constant presence, making requests and demands... She had about 6 different sounds which carried clear attitude/ mood in the context, making her communication/views/desires unmistakable! Large rodents are very bright, & some one should definitely try buttons with pet rats soon.... Can't remember the name of Milli's channel, but it may have a name like "the button-pigs."

@DolphinsPlayingInAquaMoonlight2 жыл бұрын
Bunny's owner is a HOME poop animal. An animal that poops in its own home. That must be weird to Bunny (and other animals if they knew). No other animal poops in its own home (that I know of at the top of my mind atm, but don't quote me on that) unless conditioned to do so, like house cats and some other domesticated animals. I think that it is pretty remarkable for Bunny to come up with that term based on her observations of the humans around her and how they behave on this particular subject in comparison to dogs (and who knows if she has observed other animals too). She is very intelligent. This whole video should be proof enough that Bunny knows exactly what the words mean and that she is not just pressing random buttons. She is in fact communicating in simplified English.

I love your videos of Bunny and Otter so much. Can't get enough of them. Your home is gorgeous, too. I live across the pond in New Zealand where earthquakes are fairly common, and I understand the Seattle area is also at risk? You might want to move any heavy items stored above head height, such as the books in the upper shelves of your bookcase. And also securely fix the bookcase to the wall, if not already. You can buy products like Blu-Tac to hold down items like ornaments and vases. The heavier the item, the lower down I place it. We had a bad earthquake in NZ in 2011 and some of the injured people were hit by falling objects, such as brick chimneys, and in one case, a TV. Out of habit now I notice potential hazards wherever I go, can't help it. Please keep the videos coming, they are incredibly cute and also very educational. I haven't got any buttons yet but I notice my dog's feelings and behaviors a lot more since I've been watching your videos.

If Bunny does not have a "hate" button, was the "I love you" and "no" her way of trying to tell you how she felt hatred toward the bird?
@JohnyDaison2 жыл бұрын
Why hatred? That would be a very strong emotion for something she is just seeing through a window. I'm not discounting it completely, but it's more likely it was more like "I don't like that bird." (It's weird or scary or disgusting...?)

She said she didn't like the bird because it made her mad and when it was gone she was happy. If her available button vocabulary was more differentiated, she likely could express herself more succinct and clearly. But with the restrictions imposed by her limited buttons, she has to find ways to approximate what she thinks/feels.

I think Bunny might have said “love you, no” (regarding the bird) to express her prey drive. It’s something she wants to chase, and possibly attack by instinct, so words like that, plus “mad” might be all she has to try to describe the urge she feels.
