It's amazing watching Otter's personality flourish in part because it shows us how separately unique he and Bunny are.

My cat does the same thing, though so far it seems she does it mostly to establish dominance over buttons when they're right out of the box and still has that new button smell. It's a good thing the buttons aren't smaller than they are or she'd do some very literal devouring too because she definitely clamps her jaws around new buttons a few times, just to show who's boss in this household.

I love how they have different button board styles: Bunny's (as a rule) calm and precise, while Otter tends to be more in favor of manic button mashing. Maybe it boils down to life stages... or could it be sibling rivalry? Whatever the case, they're both skilled at getting their points across.

That was amazing! “Mom my ball is under the couch.” Really stunning when you think about it. Also understanding now, later, afternoon is crazy. You say “We’ll go park later - afternoon” and she thinks about it and says “go Now.” Hilarious. Does she know the word for treat? Or biscuit? I’d worry she’ll be demanding them all day if she did!

Fortunately that is one word Bunny has never been shown to associate with a button.

Not only that, she's being manipulative. She purposefully puts the ball under the couch to have this interaction later.

@@ghin780 So funny! You are right. That way she gets mom’s attention to retrieve it and keep playing with her. My friend used to have a golden retriever who constantly got him to throw a tennis ball in the pool so he could jump in and get it - and would do it all day if you let him.

There is a video of Bunny communicating that there was a thorn/splinter stuck in her paw. She didn't have the buttons to communicate it with- but she said something like 'Stranger' 'paw' 'ouch' and they were able to figure out that Bunny had accidentally gotten a thorn or splinter stuck in her paw. Bunny even voluntarily walked over and presented her paw after the prompt.
@opus16322 жыл бұрын

The thorn bit is the first that came to mind, but more recently (start of this year?) Bunny had some belly ouches, I believe there were a few videos around that time where there was lots of talk about Bunny's belly.
@TieDyeVikki2 жыл бұрын
@@merleawe_ That was my very first Bunny clip, and my first introduction to any button-talking pets... it blew me away and I was hooked! In fact, I just re-watched it the other day (if anyone wants to see it, search KZbin for "bunny thorn in paw")... the exact sequence was "mad, ouch, stranger, paw", with Mom asking questions between each word, as this was a long time ago when Bunny was still slower at processing her thoughts/words. The fact that she transferred the basic idea of the word stranger (an unknown person, someone who doesn't belong) to the unknown object hurting her paw... just wow, so impressive! And there have been numerous other times when Bunny (as well as Billi the cat) has used her words in new ways or to coin her own terms when she didn't know a word and/or didn't have a button for something. That proves that this goes way beyond just conditioning, and that there is true understanding of the vocabulary.
