As Noel Gallagher said "The 90s was not the beginning of something - it was the end of something. It was the end of the music business as we knew it. We were the last rock stars". Never again will we experience a decade of music like the 90s.

Music critic Jon Savage pinpointed oasis album Be Here Now as the moment where Britpop ended; Savage said that while the album "isn't the great disaster that everybody says", he commented that "it was supposed to be the big, big triumphal record" of the period. At the same time, Blur sought to distance themselves from Britpop with their self-titled fifth album, assimilating American lo-fi influences such as Pavement.

I mean the early 2000s were pretty good too it was really 2005 when it started going downhill and completely fucked by 2012

@@Alfeco-dm7uk Diana also died 10 days after Be Here Now which was a huge contributing factor. The country went into mourning and took all the energy with it

@@3man3 Indeed I couldn't agree more. The mid 70s were the last of the 60s the 80s was the last of the 70s etc and the mid 2000s was the last of the 90's. The decades bleed out into the next one when the middle of the successive one was actually the peak of the previous. But after mid 2000 is when the universe somehow went off the ledge into the abyss and lost something. I dont think it will be coming back. Id love to be wrong but I dont think I am.

Oh my god! This was my crush for the amazing decade call the 90s. A decade where intellect was deemed sexy, an open mind was beautiful and borders seemed invisible. I genuinely hope that when we die we get to live in the era you loved best. Big love to the 90s teens xx

"Summer 92, I remember it clearly...." Me too Louise! I had a summer job in the American Express bureau-de-change outside Victoria station in London. And one day I cocked up big time. I hit "Australia - dollar" instead of "Austria - schilling" on the keyboard when some anonymous woman was bringing her unused currency in. Ten times difference in their respective exchange rates! Meaning I gave that bint £870 instead of £87. Oops! 😵 Brilliant tune. And those lyrics......still as fresh in my mind as my epic fail at that student job four years previously!

Seen a good amount of 'britpop' bands during the 90's and like others, Sleeper were massively underrated. Seen them in the 90's 3 times and Newcastle and Manchester in 2019 and hoping for Knebworth too - fantastic band. Thanks for the memories Sleeper, past and present and hope to see you in 2020. Great new album too. God bless Britpop - most underrated period in British music. Seeing these guys this year brought it all back and fantastic (drunken!) memories. Thanks Sleeper

Lyrical genius I mean How? Where? When? et cetera ''how are you fixed, quarter to six.'' ''love on the sofa, wasn't supposed to'' ''both settled down to our favourite meal D'you fancy veal parmesan and a case of warm Chianti?'' How? Genius Luvvit And so many memories of Cable Telly with my sons while my wife was pushing me slowly away so she could ''find herself'' until I broke and walked away in'99 in tears. Dark days, and seven years after my Dad died in '92. Thankfully my sons have all turned out okay Therefore bitter sweet memories, but at least I can listen to these songs again, unlike many men that have self-deleteted

Just rediscovered Sleeper. Funny how you get influenced by the Zeitgeist - at the time they were considered the' next big thing' then the muso press went for them big time. Typical bloody NME. After nearly 20 years gathering dust in the CD drawer their songs really stand up. Louise's autobiog definitely worth a read too. Oh to be 20 again...!
