Sleeping Baby Elephant Khanyisa Lies at the Feet of Tokwe, Lundi & Fishan

Khanyisa is our nap time inspiration! Watch how carefully Tokwe and Lundi stand around the sleeping calf to ensure that they don’t stand on her. It’s lovely to see these elephants all together - with Fishan, the gentle protector and Pisa, Tokwe’s second born daughter. Tokwe is especially nurturing, prioritising Khanyisa as she is more vulnerable while lying down.
It’s a hot day and the herd enjoy the little shade that they can find. Khanyisa gets the benefit of the shade cast by the big elephants’ bodies as well as the sand shaken over her by the trunks around her.
For such giant animals, you can see how quiet they are, with only the sounds of their ears flapping and sand spraying making a gentle noise to let us know they’re there.

I swear!!! I love the elephant more each time I watch a video about them. This specific herd tho~ they truly melt my damn heart! They are just THE NEATEST species on the planet!! Smh I mean REALLY--even the prime mate wouldn't shade their loved one. As wonderful as the dog is ( I think the dog n elephant are tied really😁❤️🐶) idt even a momma dog would shade her pup...would she?? Idt she would. Here these orphaned elephants ...SMH theyre shading a herd member who truly is not even (not genetically I mean) a member of their herd--not as far as their bloodlines are concerned. This is actually remarkable to watch. I have noticed (or wondered) that the adult elephants seem almost uncomfortable when the little ones sleep. And that they often wake them up? I assume it's because the babies are at their most vulnerable.

Just aMEISIEing to see the HERD protecting our dear Khanyisa like. The trust and love between them is obvious. My family calls me "TIMIstified" cause I'm always looking for beautiful Timisa. Maybe she's with Kumbura and Limpopo, but I always lookout for her. Fishan is just fantastic how he likes to spend time with the females. Maybe he feels protected by them, too. But what this video tells me is that Khanyisa, napping like that so soundly at their feet, should bode well for the upcoming transition to the Homestead. Can't wait. Thanks HERD!

You couldn’t get 4 human adults to stand so quietly and unmoving over a child for this long. They are very purposeful about what they are doing. Not looking around for something to eat or doing anything other than standing watch over the baby of the herd and doing so in such a way that would make the baby as comfortable as possible and protect the babies skin. This is intelligence at a very high level on display. We should take careful note. These wonderful creatures of God are every bit as intelligent as we are and have some truly unusual communication skills.

I watch a documentary on elephants a couple of months back about a very well known 🐘 who was documented for most of her life. Her name was "Echo" she was a matriarch of a semi large herd. There was a scene where the entire herd would lay down to sleep and echo would be the last elephant to lay down. She was so well know by researchers that she would leave her calf by the researchers vehicles as to say its time for you to babysit and leave to forage I thought it was soo funny. She had gained the trust of those filming her. Echo was filmed right up to her very last breath. Everyone should watch her documentaries they are a blast.

The Elephants are parked like semi-trucks at a truck stop. The Elephants are like trucks that are idling at rest. As they swing their trunks around and sniff the air then shooting air out it is not unlike air compressors that govern out at high pressure with an air shot. Ears flapping like engine fans keeping the engines cool. The Elephants take their DOT required 30 minute break till they're rested up and they can continue driving through the bush picking up and dropping off loads of tree limbs, leaves, and roots. 🐘Another day in Elephantopia🐘

WOW!! What such wonderful elephants they are. I always love how they all take care of the young and definitely make sure the young are doing well and safe too. Giving sweet Pinky Khanyisa shade in the heat there is so thoughtful and loving of them. It always makes me smile how this elephant family watches over each other and protects each other too.❤️🐘😊 I have to stay that sweet Fishon has such a big heart and he possibly wants to be the protector of the ladies and young too.🥰❤️🐘 Also maybe, he is the stud of all the male elephants and the ladies know it so the ladies (elephants) don’t mind him hanging around them and he is large and possible could still be a great protector too.😊🥰🐘 It does amaze me too that with it being so hot there in the sun that they don’t want to or aren’t in the water getting wet and cool. Khanyisa è sempre piccina, ha bisogno di riposarsi e dormire durante il giorno perché si stanca 😫.Le madri adottive e Fishan sono ammirevoli ,adorabili,super protettive con tutti ma in particolare con le più piccole del branco.Adoro la piccina che dormendo 😴 usufruisce del bagno di sand che le allomother si fanno per scacciare gli insetti fastidiosi .Spero che nel recinto con Pisa vicino non ci siano gelosie nei confronti di Pink, non mi sembra molto propensa verso lei.....!

And these elephants wouldn't be standing here today providing shade and protection for little Khanyisa ... What a fate that would have been ...

Pisa may be a bit jealous but the sleeping group Khanyisa will be in has her allomothers Kumbura and Limpopo so Tokwe, Pisa's mother, will have help in caring for Khanyisa. Fishan will also make sure both youngsters get ample attention. I only wish Lundi was in that group but she has her boy Mambo to attend to and we all know what a character he is! LOL!

They sleep the same way I do. As much as we like to think we are so different from animals, I beg to differ. We are so much like animals. We care for the young, we form social circles, they care for their community. I mean I could go on. You all know what I mean. Seems the difference is that they have more common sense than humans.
