Campi Flegrei and Long Valley, CA are the two resurgent dome calderas that scare me. I think they're a lot more likely to go off than Yellowstone. Interesting factoid: Jackson, Mississippi is the only US state capital built on an extinct volcano.
@SevereWeatherCenter4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't worry about Long Valley or Yellowstone. Both currently have no uplift. Campi Flegrei on the other hand has been having an uplift rate of almost 8" per year. Iwo Jima has been uplifting at a rate of nearly 5' per year, and the Awu volcano has uplifted 20 feet since 2021. But the most dangerous one is Iwo Jima, as since James Cook discovered Iwo Jima. The shoreline that he visited in 1775 is now more than 140' above sea level.

@@SevereWeatherCenterI wouldn't worry about iwo jima either too much tbf there's a few more dangerous.. It's only had minor eruptions.. Sakurajima is prob more deadly or taal, tambora, toba list goes on
@robdiesel28764 ай бұрын
@@Davej123Maybe you missed it. Iwo Jima has 5 feet of uplift per year with only minor eruptions. Those eruptions aren't helping relieve that pressure. Meanwhile the pressure builds. This thing would make Mt Pinatubo look small if it goes. Tambora isn't doing anything at all. Taal is making noise and should be watched as well. All of these volcanoes should be watched. Especially Iwo Jima!

The Phlegraean Fields (also known as Campi Flegeri) is not a resurgent dome caldera in the slightest, it is a Caldera Volcano without any resurgent dome - unlike Long Valley which is a caldera volcano with a resurgent dome. The domes that have been formed in the Phlegraean Fields are eruptive domes, usually referred to as cinder cones, these are caused by eruptive events that give the impression of multiple volcanoes, but the source material comes from the same spot. Whilst the majority of caldera volcanoes have resurgent domes, these are caused by the magma pushing up the overlying ground to form the dome, rather than by eruptions. If you look at the3 history of the whole area then the region around Naples may be the most dangerous, volcanically speaking, in the world. Mt Vesuvius sits tabout 10km to the south, but its formation coincides with the last major eruption of the Phlegraean Fields some 39,000 years ago - further Ischia is also an active volcanic system off the coast on the edge of the 39,000 yr old Caldera - it is unkown of these volcanic systems are linked underground, although it is highly likely this is the case.
