My wife and I spent about 3 hours each Saturday morning over 5 consecutive Saturdays to play and complete the game. We loved it so much we started over and did it again, focusing on areas we did not get to in the first game.

Oh man...you guys are hyping me up for our kid free board game weekend next week!! A whole weekend with sleeping gods without having to take it down between gaming intervals. When Rob and I play, we play easy mode - I find that assisted with learning the game, while progessing the story. Our first campaign we mainly focused on exploring the intro area to learn what's around to optimise future playthroughs. We've joked around about doing one playthrough as a purely evil party and see how far that gets us. We enjoy the game at two players, i agree its a lot of management - but we've had experience with gloomhaven without the app (although we'd rather play with the app or PC version these days to save time) but once you become familiar with character abilities it does get easier. Also if we buy something from the market (for eg a recipe) that superseeds a old one we have, we get rid of it to reduce clutter but still make a note that we have it. Still one of my favourite gaming experiences of all time. I'm struggling to find games that give me that similar story driven exploration experience that I enjoy in my video games. I'm keen to check out destinies when it comes out in Australia...any ideas on other games I could look into? Also, not sure about a sleeping god's soundtrack, but when we play we listen to video game soundtracks...usually ocarina of time, legend of heroes or final fantasy and that heightens our thematic experience. It seems like a lot up front, but honestly once you get a small grasp - the actions are pretty straight forward. The rulebook is very well written in my opinion, AND it has an intro scenario to walk you through. For what the game is, they’ve done a great job making it accessible. Hope you get to play it soon!

I couldn't get Sleeping Gods so I picked up Forgotten Waters. My group had an absolute blast and the scenario was a app assisted fun romp. I wonder if Sleeping gods is a more serious and deeper experience.

Have you played any of Laukat's other games? It seems like if someone likes the Arzium series (Above & Below, Near & Far) then they'll loooove Sleeping Gods... But none of the reviews I've seen so far have made the comparison.

We haven’t, I did mention that the quest / code worst mechanic is similar in the two - but that is about the extent of my knowledge of Arzium

Check out Forteller Games. They do thematic narration for lots of Red Raven games. Sadly not Sleeping Gods..yet.

8.5 based on my play so far. But I suspect as we get further in with bigger story events that will shift to the 9- 9.5 range!

When I saw people soloing the game, they were playing four characters. Are you suppose to have four each, or could you play with just two characters each?

It’s odd rulebook wording, it’s basically “split the 8 crew boards as evenly as possible amoung players” It does then state however, that you can play as 2 or more crew. So yes technically you could play with two crew each at two player. We might try that out and see if it changes things. But even with the extra management, I think having the full 8 characters allows more potential for successful challenges and combat synergies.
