A lot of people seem to think that this song is about a break up and still being in love with them, but this is about his wife, it says "I'd ask 'you think we'd ever make it?' You'd say "I'm sure if its right.' Ain't it funny to think how stupid I used to be?" which is saying he was stupid for saying he ever thought they wouldn't make it. It also says "Every year that goes by a year older we are, you'll still be beautiful then, bless your beautiful heart." It means staying with someone for months, years, and you love them the whole way through. After such a long time together, they still hold all of each other's heart.
