Kellin is still writing about his father's abandonment of them. The scars it left him is so carved out from his heart that he cannot forget, he cannot heal. And Kellin is the proof that you can never "just bounce back and forget". Because you don't just forget when its all in your head, when you bleed everyday, everytime. And I will forever can relate to him. I will forever love you!!!

I think this song is about his step-sons since Kellin said in a tweet that his dad didn’t walk out on him and that a Trophy Father’s Trophy Son is about his step-sons’ dad

I absolutely, love this song. I resonate with this, and be happy so much. I love the homage to trophy fathers trophy son, IS THIS WHAT YOU CALL A FAMILY?

He is a major inspiration to my little girl, for awhile she had it in her head that because she didn't have a dad, she would never amount to much. I asked her if she believed that Kellin was successful in life, and she was like, "Duh, he is Kellin Quinn" so I told her his dad abandoned him too, and so she relistened to Trophy Father; she finally understood the song. She looks up to this whole band and finally went to her first concert in July to meet these guys. They have inspired her to play guitar and take vocal lessons. Kellin told her she was amazing and did a fantastic job singing "Save Me A Spark" when I sent him the recording. This whole band is exceptional and great role models. She even has 4 picks that Nick gave her personally.

I couldn't of heard this at a more perfect time. "Welcome to my family tree You carved your name in my heart And then you set me free And my tears fall down to the ground You walked away, I'll never be the same All you gave me was your last name" this part is what I feel in song form. Thank you for this!!!

Yeah Do I look defective, or am I infected? Is this a lesson, some kind of lesson? 'Cause I feel rejected, and you, you walk out the door I guess this house ain't a home, not anymore, no It's not the first time that I felt this way (felt this way) Where I watch you pack it up and just be on your way You don't care who you hurt, I think that you might be cursed And what's worse, I think you cursed me the same Oh, what a shame Welcome to my family tree (family tree) We may look perfect to some But the roots underneath are dead in the ground You chose to walk away I guess there's nothing else to say (yeah) You walked away, I'll never be the same All you gave me was your last name What are you running away from? Does it make you feel better? I hope that someday you will find yourself Do you remember the card that you sent? It's in a box on my shelf I just wish you would have told me yourself (You should've told me yourself) Welcome my family tree (family tree) We may look perfect to some But the roots underneath are dead in the ground You chose to walk away I guess there's nothing else to say Welcome to my family tree (family tree) You carved your name in my heart And then you set me free And my tears fall down to the ground You walked away, I'll never be the same All you gave me was your last name You made this house your home (you made this house your home) Now it's a place I don't even know With every word left unspoken (with every word left unspoken) Now all I am is broken (now all I am is broken) Is this what you call a family? Is this what you call a family? Guess we'll never know We'll never know Welcome to my family tree We may look perfect to some But the roots underneath are dead in the ground You chose to walk away I guess there's nothing else to say Welcome to my family tree (family tree) You carved your name in my heart And then you set me free And my tears fall down to the ground You walked away, I'll never be the same All you gave me was your last name You walked away, I'll never be the same All you gave me was your last name

I really wish this band would grow with its audience. The older I get, the less I can relate with their lyrics. It feels like they're being vague and ambiguous with their message in order to appeal to a wider audience instead of having one clear message or theme. Artists don't stagnate.
