My great grandmother lived in a small 3 room cracker box shaped house built by her father near Shallowater, Texas. My grandparents (her son) lived in a modern house next door. When visiting my younger brother and I would sleep at my great grandmothers house. At night when went would get in bed she would tell us stories of her growing up in Oklahoma and moving to Texas. She and my brother would eventually fall asleep. Still wide awake I would lay there in bed listening to the wind whistling through the windows and watching the flames flicker in the firebox of the gas heater. I would eventually fall asleep but was never one bit scared and never ever got tired of the same stories over n over n over again.

I put it on my favorites so I can go directly to it. My house is surrounded by bushes and trees and blocks the winds from whistling. With this when the snow is a blowing I can turn it on. One year I used wind similar to this as a Halloween sound for a party and when we told ghost stories, it was perfect. I put the speakers at the window.

This brings to mind my 350 year old cottage in Scotland at the top of the Wynd just up from the sea. The wind would hit the side of the cottage full force, making the old windows rattle and whistle. I’d have to shut the door, but still it would blow under the door down the landing and make my bedroom door rattle. I’d be curled up in bed with layers of clothes on, a scarf around my neck, socks, duvets and blankets and I loved it. One night it was blowing a wee hoolie and I heard my bins blowing around and saw they were about to fly down the Wynd so I rushed out in my nightie and a cardigan before they did. What a sight I must have been wrestling the bins, trying to close the lid with my nightie caught by the wind and over my head. 😝

When I was a little girl in Rhode Island and heard the wind like this, I would run outside and stand up on the top rung of this 3 foot high wooden log fence in my yard and lean into the wind, hoping it would make me fly. It never did but I kept trying. This puts me back there😊

I grew up living in newyork up town harlem at the pologrouds projects!,..welived on he 28 th floor for11 years every morning id listen to the sounds that the wind would make in the hall standing near the elevators, exits,and my bedroom window at times, most times at late night you could fine my twin brother and myself sleeping with our pillows and blankets at basese of the front( only ) door listen to the wind sounds all night till my mom woke us when she hit our heads hen she opened the door coming home from night scool,anyway i just knew my bro is the only other person that know that LOVE this sound!!, THANK YOU for my search is over!, thanks again.

It is August, 2013 in Medellin, Colombia. I am seated in a sofa in my small apartment, I have a joint in my hand, and I am playing Final Fantasy XIV while talking to a friend about the night plans. I hang up, take in some of the smoke, and realize, as I look through my window and hear the sound the wind makes, that THAT is the most calming, relaxed moment that I will ever have in my life. I pray that I am wrong. I hate that I wasn’t.

This reminds me of the sounds of Hurricane Ivan and it blew the window seals of every window in the house and this is sound of the wind blowing thru the window seals, only it was more intense at times and in the corner room of the house that was catching the wind at its worst , it actually sounded like a someone screaming 😱 so I kept that door closed and locked and stayed crouched in the bathroom floor the entire night. This sounds exactly like that night accept there’s not enough sounds of a creaking roof. Was expecting the roof to fly off but fortunately it didn’t. Only lost the shingles. I never slept not even for a minute for the entire night until it became suddenly quiet right at the crack of Dawn. What a night that was! They claimed it was a Cat 3 but everyone in Pensacola said it had to be at least a Cat 4. Almost the entire Pensacola area had their roofs destroyed and all homes were covered In blue tarps for months on end waiting to get new roofs and without power for weeks and trees covering the roads. With no stores we survived on MRE’s brought in by the National Guards. But for some odd reason the sounds of the winds are calming.
