That Cutco hiring initiation was the exact same bullshit the company Primerica did except I had just a 1 on 1 interview rather than a crowded orientation. A bunch of bland, generic questions about wanting to improve myself and getting past where I'm at in life, except you're selling life insurance, so there's a $99 fee for a background check and a bunch of courses you have to take to become qualified by the state. Lucky for me, a friend researched it and told me not to join, and now the company targets new high school grads through Facebook for their members.

I had the exact same experience with a shitty telemarketing company. And not just me, but also a high school friend of mine! Two years through college and both looking for Summer work got the same letter in the mail, went unknowing of the bullshit awaiting us, and the best part? They hired us both in the same room at the same time. They had us do initial interviews privately, but then took us both in like we had to compete for the better interview, then gave us both the job, which I'm sure they orchestrated just to make us feel like we were a couple of real cool dudes. Three days of training later and learning exactly how scammy those cold-calling assholes were trying to make us, calling friends and family to make them feel bad for you, exactly as they describe in this video, that was all it took for me to fuck right off out of there. Sadly gave a friend's home number which apparently they called later on trying to recruit him afterwards (we both laughed it off) but they really pressure you to make these awful calls for products people wouldn't even think to buy on impulse, stuff you'd really plan to be getting if you would get it at all, like home security or solar panels or shit like that. Doing that in a cramped unfinished office room with no privacy on the first three days of training, it's kind of amazing to see the facade of a friendly vibe slowly fade off the longer you're in one of those places. I never went any further than that, basically quit the next day, I guess being a student I had the fortune of not feeling desperate enough to stay at a place like that. Still legitimately scary though.
